VALVe has bestowed upon us two new images from the forthcoming Day of Defeat: Source. As always, restart Steam to recieve the update.

Play-testing Day of Defeat: Source has taken over the Valve offices. We're expecting DoD fans and new players alike to have a blast with the game when it's released later this summer. Polishing work is being done right now on the player animations, as well as lighting work on the various maps. Current favorite features include the new grenade stun effect, and the ability to deploy the machine gun on any surface.[br]</br>
Those who are familiar with the game will recognize the area in the two screenshots below from the map "Donner".[br]</br> In other news, HL2: Lost Coast (the upcoming free Half-Life 2 map for Half-Life 2 owners which showcases HDR rendering technology) is nearing completion and will be released soon on Steam. We're going to include a bit of extra content with Lost Coast, which we haven't mentioned yet... watch this space for details.

Wow, looking good! but...
The clothes look a bit smooth dont they?

Nice, I love hearing new info about DOD:s. Is it just me or does the map not seem to be recognizable as Donner? I guess it needs to be less sunny and more dreary or something, but it reminds me more of some other map like avalanche (like towards the end of the Allies' spawn where the destroyed tank is resting). Glad to hear about the progress.

Btw, lmao are they still talking about Lost Coast? Forgot completely about it, does anyone still care anymore....?

Yeah, I care...somewhat, granted, the only way I'll be able to see it in it's glory is throush someone making a video of it D:

And DOD:S is looking good..granted, I never liked DOD, but doesn't mean it can't look like a great mod :D

Looks like they are finishing things up... this is gonna be great.

I do, because I'm getting a new computer next month :p

wow everything looks sparkling clean... even the rubble.

Hmmm... interesting... *secretly hopes it's TF2*

Looks really nice! The player models look great but I'm really hoping the player textures are just place holders :|

Very nice indeed, looking forward to this. But if they could do the characters skin a little more dirty I'll be a happy camper. :p
DoD and Red Orchestra has one of the best sounds in a game imo.

Ahah! From the DoD forums -

"Player skins in those pics are WIP" :)

And Barney, I wouldn't get your hopes up... :upstare:

That makes no sense. Extra content is just that. It's extra. A full game is not a tag-on for a few maps showcasing technology. It should be the other way around, folks. TF2 is not exactly mere bonus material.

My guess is that we'll be getting new/unused enemies or weapons. If there's anything related to TF2 in the package, the most you can probably look forward to is a minor preview. Despite the game's unknown status, it is still big. Valve isn't going to drop it on you with a Thank You note. They're going to pimp it up with magazines, websites, probably even E3.

In fact, I'm about 80% certain that the extra content IS TF2

With Loast coast, I'm 100% certain they mean within lost coast.

Or MAYBE they are bringing back the WON servers :D

Just realised... only 3 days till the one year anniversary of WON's demise :(

just dl nu ones I dont play with the defaoult ones on CSS

Yeah looks great but the player models aren't obviosly final. Even like that, they would be better than the ones they we're first using in the spring

hydra? they gonna try to make me pay for a character that was suppose to be in hl2 already? or is this free?

looks like jpeg_quality 50

Yea this is excatly what I thought. Are they the official screenshots because all I see is jpg compression, that's annnoying.

Notice how Valve make the cool scrrens low quality and small and the bad ones (first Aftermath shot) large and high res

god bless you valve.

i thought that after HL2 was released i wouldnt be as hyped for anything for a long time. but now, im just as bad as i was before HL2 was released. right now im dying to see DOD:S, lost coast, HL2: Aftermath, and even just some info on TF:2.

edit: deploying machine guns on any surface is looking very cool.

Player models look like medal of honor models. all clean, tidy and glossed over with no grit or grime. I could really care less about Day of Defeat but I'm just saying those models (not the map) look horrible.

its i COULDN'T care less...

i believe no one should criticize valve's work on dod:s so far cause this is obviously an amazing improvement from when they last showed us dod:s. i thought the player models were too smooth too but valve probably did this to make you mad, like last time.

ahh i cant wait till it comes out. im getting so sick of css now. and i finally got a kickass system so ill finally be able to play the lost coast.

Those skins are work in progress...

It all looks good to me. :)

Jesus! My god, do some people not recall what DOD:S looked several months ago? This update is leaps and bounds better looking. Anyway, like CS:S's first models, they were flat, and just kind of generic looking. They finally got updated and are much more detailed today. I expect the same thing here to happen. Regardless, I would much rather have these models (which are not, in anyway, terrible) with smooth skins than the old, fingerless, DoD models with terrible, old, textures.

No no the models look great! Its the skin thats horrible, but I think the final skins will be great to!

Could the extra content with Lost Coast be the little bit of HDR they said they were going to put into some places of HL2?

About the JPEG Compression quality. Although it may/may not be directly from valve themselves ( I didn't post this - So I don't know if Aslan done it himself ), us newsposters have to lower the quality of posted images to save space on the website. If the image size is too large, the posting system automatically blocks you from posting the news post.

True, look at the screens from Steam itself. They're not that obviously compressed.
