Some movies are so bizarre they have to be seen to be believed. And often upon hearing of them we will say 'haha, cool, I should watch that' - and then forget about them. This thread is a pledge to go through with them.

Post here about a very odd film that deserves to be given a chance.
BUT: by posting in this thread you commit - absolutely commit, on the highest and most authoritative level - that is, you promise to yourself and to your God - to seeing at least one of the films that has been mentioned above you. Upon doing so, you should summarise your experience with it in this thread, and thus entrap yourself in a never ending chain of weird goddamn movies.

Let us begin.

a friend said:
I finally got on DVD a copy of my favorite killer robot movie ever - Hardware. This movie has the most mental post-apocalyptic future going; Iggy muthafarkin' Pop narrates the utterly screwed-up-ness of the world our characters have to endure; the sky's a funny colour, Lemmy is a cabbie, there's a lot of late-80's metal and goth music on the airwaves and half the planet is still at war, while everyone else gets on with their lives more or less the same as now - only more grimy... bit like a council estate in Manchester with more radiation. Our heroine is a is a sculptor who makes horrible metal things for rich people's living rooms. Her neighbour is a slimy voyeur who is obviously planning to do nasty non-consensual sexual things to her when the boyfriend's away. Enter that skinny bloke from The Fields of the Nephilim (yes, as in the band) who sells her some knock-off robot parts to make art objects with. Alas, the war robot bits belong to a monster that makes the Terminator look completely tame. MARK 13 is the baddest killer robot of them all... a Terminator never cornered your girlfriend in a shower and tried to drill her (yes, like that) with a Black & Decker, did it?

Mind Game

Whuuuuuuu?

Can't think of any at the moment - but I've got a copy of Hardware on Video and it is as impressive as Sulk says; only thing he's missing is the weirdly placed spaceport from memory.

Happiness (see this movie)

Aside from that, it really isn't hard to spew bizzare titles out. However, calling out good titles is a whole other issue.
A lot of people assume because a film is Bizzare, or edgy, it=quality film. Very untrue

Pink Flamingos..
Tasteless, stupid film.
Want to see a transvestite eat real poop? Two people **** a chicken and break it's neck? A bunch of other random, stupid, but entertaining enough to watch crap?

Irreversible

Film done in reverse, 20 minute rape scene of Monica Belluci, graphic scene of someone getting their head smashed in with a fire hydrant?

Tons of other "weird" titles, Chumbscrubber, Tracey Fragments, etc. All boring, not good, trying way to damn hard.

This girl I was dating and I rented a movie from Blockbuster once based purely off of the box. I can't remember the film's name, but the box has shown some dangerous package with eyes peering out etc. And we really loved watching horror movies, even bad ones.

In this movie, someone was like hired to transport this package or whatever. I forget all the specifics, but it ended up that the thing inside the package looked like a giant penis with eyes that had been sewn shut. And it had some sort of sex with one of the characters. It was without a doubt the most crazy ****ed up things I had ever seen.

[EDIT] Oh if anyone knows that movie please let me know because not knowing the name drives me nuts. [/EDIT]

As far as good movies go, Mulholland Drive takes the cake for me.

Yeah, do try and make the weird movies also be good movies. :p

YOU ARE ALL COMMITTED.

In fact, you must now watch at least as many movies as you make posts.

I will try, speaking of which, I need some recollection...
Naked Lunch

Now I saw this when I was 15, and I remember thinking it was good (so I dont know if I would like it now, can anyone confirm it being good/sucking?), it's an extremely sexually bizarre/creepy film

I love Naked Lunch. Be warned that it's not just an adventure with funny monsters. Its plotline, structure, and method of composition are rather weird - which is to say out of step with conventional ideas of how a story should work, and, in that sense, not 'good'. If you can stand this, and are okay being confused as hell, it's wonderful. Really fun and very very funny (or maybe that was just me).

I'll have to pick it up again sometime.

Hmm, I just remembered another I haven't seen since I was like, 13.

Alice(Neco z Alenky)

A version of Alice In Wonderland.
I wanna say "this is a good film for an open minded kid", but it might be a bit to slow for a child, if I recall.
I remember really liking this, mostly because the artist's style (his other shorts are amazing too)

Ive seen Alice, Pink Flamingos, Irreversible... They are all a bit efed up. Especially Pink Flamingos and Irreversible. Been meaning to see naked lunch. Gotta check it out.

Meet the Feebles
Who would've thought that Lord of the Rings Peter Jackson made some epic weird movies in his early days... Here is his 3rd film, which was an obvious take on the Muppets. But viewer beware, this is NOT the Muppets

Naked Blood
A really weird movie that essentially is an excuse for a lot of gore. The premise is that a kid follows in his dad's footsteps and wants to become a doctor. He invents a new painkiller, and slips it to 3 different girls. Of course the medicine has a nasty side effect, which makes one addicted to pain. There is some really bizarre/Freudian stuff at the end. Worth a look.
Clip NSFW

and here is by far, the weirdest movie I have ever seen:

The Forbidden Zone

Words can not describe this... movie. Just watch the trailer. Its just straight up bizarre.

So the idea of this thread is to also write what we thought of the movies? Like what I think of Naked Lunch (when I see it)?

I can't remember what it's called, but I watched this weird movie when I was like 8 (when my parents didn't look to see what I was watching on TV).

The one scene I can think of was when this lady (Demi Moore maybe?) was in the junkyard and she encounters two adult-size, gross-looking babies. Not sure what happens next, but they eventually end up playing this card game called Bubblegum.

Oh, supposedly, there was Tupac in it as well.

Yeah, really weird.

Basket Case
? That's probably not it, but it looks like a bad movie and should be in this thread.

I will try, speaking of which, I need some recollection...

This is a good movie. A really good movie. Saw it on Hulu months ago.

Ah, I was gonna say that one, although Alice is definitely not my favorite Jan Svankmajer film. My favorite shorts are the Punch and Judy skit (it's fun, and I watched it with a friend who kept making up silly lines for the characters), and the Fall of the House of Usher.

I also just remembered this old sci-fi/horror film that I always wanted to rent but never got to (nobody would watch it with me! :(). It was called The Manster. It looked horrible and only came on VHS. If anyone's seen it, let me know if it's awesome/hilarious/boring/awful. Reading through the imdb message board for it is making me totally regret not watching it.

I've actually seen Irreversible and when it ended I couldn't help but think: Why did I see it/why would anyone else see it? It really is just unecessarily gory (guy using a fire extringuisher to beat some other guy's head to a pulp) and effed up (dumbass 10 minute, single take, rape scene), not to mention it just flat out doesn't make for a good plot or presentation.

A movie I think definitely falls into the weird category would be Female Trouble, except I actually thought it was hilariously awesome.

Speaking of which, I've been meaning to watch Pink Flamingos just to see what it is all about, but going by ZombieTurtle's description of it, I may decide agaisnt it. I assumed it would be like Female Trouble but doesn't sound like I'd want to sit through it.

Aye, it's one movie I would like to unsee.

I second Naked Lunch - love that movie - and various David Lynch stuff. I watched Paprika the other night ...

... and was left scratching my head :rolling:

Oh my god :( I remember seeing a bit of that on tv once, ****ing sick

And BTW I second paprika

Basket Case

I was thinking that, Basket Case is drawn out but awesomely stupid.

Hmm, there are a lot of interesting titles here, I will actually watch a few with a friend.

KONTROLL

main.php

Quirky Hungarian comedy/thriller about a bunch of dudes who work as ticket guys on a big subway/metro system. It's pretty weird but a truly awesome movie. Not sure how to explain it beyond that because the plot is kind of meandering and uncollected.

I saw hardware back in the day ..it was pretty crappy

films dont get any weirder than anything by Peter Greenway, most famously The Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover; the movie begins with a perforamce piece for high class clientel that features an old man eating and covering himself with his own shit. not really recommended to anyone except film buffs

much more accesible and equally weird: Delicatessen also the usual suspects: Brazil, Blue Velvet, A Clockwork Orange, Darren Aronofsky's Pi. anything from David Lynch, Lars von triers and anyone associated with the dogme manifesto.

I love Pi. The soundtrack is badass, as with most Aronofsky films. Lynch is always a mind**** (try Inland Empire).

Andrei Tarkovsky's movie Stalker is also very very good. It's the rough inspiration for the game STALKER, and follows a few men (one of whom is a guide of sorts called a Stalker) who sneak into an off-limits, heavily guarded area known as "the Zone" where no-one lives and... strange things happen. It is implied to be the site of some kind of disaster, possibly a paranormal one. It's an incredibly suspenseful movie despite the lack of many action sequences and the low budget. Really highly recommended.

You can't get much more weird than this...It's in the name!

I still have yet to see Blue Velvet, my cousin is a huge Lynch fan.

Anyways, about Delicatessen, it's was entertaining, but I remember liking City of Lost Children a lot more, it's been so long since I've seen either though.

Yeah most likely pick any anime movie and you got a weird movie. Paprika comes to mind. Movie made absolutely no sense and I dont even want to attempt to make sense of it like I tried to with Akira and Ghost in the Shell.

But yeah pick any Terry Gilliam movie.

Then theres Altered States...

Most anime movies aren't that weird. But when they are, damn are they ever:

Angel Egg - This is an extremely boring movie. I could barely sit through it. It has good visuals, especially for an older anime, but thats about it. And there's only a few lines throughout this movie.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r04X-ImELzc

Cat Soup - Another "silent" film, however, this one kept my attention. Really is the most bizarre anime I've seen.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmYzeilhjsQ

Perfect Blue - This movie isn't so weird as the other two, but it does mess with your head. The second anime I ever saw. I read one critic calling it "as if Walt Disney and Alfred Hitchcock made a movie". Not entirely accurate, but it gives you an idea.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj6Eyn-MDHk

and while not anime, people must check out this Korean flick:

Save the Green Planet
- It really is a mishmash of different genres. You can also see nods to other movies, such as 2001, Usual Suspects, Wizard of Oz, and Blade Runner
