Anyone got any weird phobias?

I found this site that details some of the strangest phobias imaginable (including "fear of underwater shopping carts ") but I'm pretty sure there are more that are weirder.

As an example, my girlfriend has a phobia of feet (and makes me wear slippers and socks a lot of the time :| ) and I have a phobia of overhanging bushes, mostly by the sides of roads. I'm afraid someone will jump out at me, and I won't see them in time because the bush conceals them really well.

Okay, call the mental asylum. I don't care, but please put some kind of phobia down first!

nah i just have a normal phobia of spiders. from what i heard over 1/3 of the world is so nothing weird there i guess. i did one know a guy scared of sandwitchs though it was funny but kinda sad i guess but who can;t laugh at a guy freak out when ever theres a sandwitch near him

Hey, a fear of underwater shopping carts isn't that weird when you jump from bridges in the summer and there may be a shopping cart on the bottom that 'breaks' your fall. :)

I don't have any weird phobias that I can think of.

I have a phobia of spiders. My moms fault. whenever there was a spider she would scream and be scared of them, i guess when i was young i watched my mom and learnt to be afraid of them.

Also, i don't like blood... Call me a pussy or whatever you want. I can see blood in games and not be bothered at all. but stuff that looks real (or is real) like in tv programs/movies, then i get all queezy and cant sit still. Sometimes i puke.

I have a fear of being upside down, but thats only if i don't have a safety harness. I'm talking about being scarred that I will injure myself permenently (spine, broken neck) while I'm doing handstands, a back/flip, etc. Being in a rollercoaster or an aircraft or even a spacering, I will be alright. Do you have the same moderate problem.

Dont think i have any wierd ones.i have heard of some very strange ones though:
There is a fear of BIG words...and its given a huge name (which i cant think of right now)

Scenario:
Do you have a fear
Yes
What is it
Well its called...Hippo..argh cant say it, why, why WHY!!!!

Also a fear of being dateless...

I have a stange phobia that seems to shift from thing to thing, i will shwo you.

When i am on the ground and look up at a tower, i am scared of heights.
When i am on the top of the tower and look down, my fear shifts suddenly to the ground.

Sponges, I hate the feel of 'em....they make me cringe.

BTW to have a phobia you need to actually feel dread or fear when confronted by your phobia.

I know a lot of people who claim to be arachnophobic, but the truth is they just feel uncomfortable about spiders and wouldn't touch one, but it's different to panicing and screaming.

I can't think of any phobias I have really, I try to be calm about things, but I think I have a partial fear of flying, which is a shame because I do a lot of it, and I even want to get a private pilot licence some day.
I feel ok on good name airlines, but on Air China and lesser brands, i feel a bit afraid.

And also Vertigo is not a phobia, it is just feeling dizzy from heights, there's another word that describes the fear of heights.

Fear that Everybody in the World is an Actor, and that You're the Big Joke
I used to philosphise about this, and watching the Truman show kind of inspired it.

But I came to the conclusion it's an extremely arrogant point of view.

HA!

no, but seriously, i have problems with the my back facing open spaces, if im not sleeping against the wall, then i cant sleep, and even my computer is set up so im againt my wall facing the door. I have to have it, otherwise im constantly checking to see whats going on behind me. Very distracting.

Hey, they don't have Guybrush Threepwood's phobia! Fear of objects made of ...*shudder*... porcelain.

That's not a phobia, just instinct. When we were a bunch of cavemen, that's what stopped us from risking being attacked from behind while guarding the cave for instance. We also have about 4 times as thick skin on the back which is a remain of when we had to have it to survive attacks from behind.

Yeh, I have that too a bit (if it's more comfortable that way then I'll sleep that way :P), but I figured that's just natrual. With you back facing an open space, you don't know what's behind you. When your in a corner looking in, you can see everything in the room.

when i was really ickle i had a complete phoboia of a wolf coming in my room at night when i was asleep and eating me, bad things to me

so for about a week i wouldnt sleep at night i would jsut hide under my covers peeping out all night to check,

I do NOT like holes, even grated covered up ones
tho i will go potholing and the like as long as i feel safe, for instace walking along a road where it has old coal holes for ye olde days and the gratying over the whol enow i Will Not walk over them i have to jump em or go around them.

I dont fear death i just dont wanna go there :P
tho if i knew i was going to die i would get everything staightened out and go gloriously :)

I would be pissed off if i jsut died eg, car accident and the like.

You'd be surprised at just how many people are scarred of feet. My friend will seriously get pissed if you take you're shoes off in his house or wear sandels or something.

I have a fear of pins/needles in my apples and such, or glass in my tasty burrito. Hmm, I don't think I have any other fears....

When i was younger, i used to have these nightmare type things in which i would shrink, and everything in the room would look as if it was far away, it completley freaked me out, and i would wake up sweating.

Now i am hugley scared of large, indoor area's, i don't know why, my mind just tends to think they are far away from me, which, well, they are. :(

I just can't stand it bieng in them, awful, awful, awful.

Hey that happened to me when I was young. I got really panicy about it.

Don't know what caused it, but I still remember it.

Felt awful, didn't it ;(

I was watching the Maury show (for you europeans, if you havent seen it already, its a talk show with various situation) and i saw this woman who was terrified of tin foil. It was by far the funniest thing i have ever seen. They brought out a huge swan made of tin foil and she flipped out, running off the stage into the backroom. It sounded like she was died lol.

aye i remeber it well, i dont know why... Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia is the fear of long words, irony at its best.

My main phobia is of octopus and squid...and large cuttlefish...i don't know why....but i'll vomit if i see any...why do friends think its funny?!?!? :(

I have a fear of sleeping or closing my eyes with my neck expposed. I always wonder if some crazy mad person is gonna sneak in and cut my throat. So usually I curl up in the fetal position when I sleep.

I also remember as a child that when I was dreaming I'd have all sorts of problem with scale, like I'd be either way too small or way too big, or too close, or too far away from things. Sort of like if you set HL to fov 150. It wasn't really a fear, just a thing that I grew out of.

I have phobia of computer viruses

i also have one of contagious diseases so i don't go anywhere near rats or dirty places, hospitals, etc.

I had the shrinking dreams also... They were freaky. I was so small i could stand on my pillow and not see the end of my bed...

Also i have a fear of bleeding to death, or slitting my throat or wrists... I wouldn't know what to do in that situation, suppose i'd just give up and pass out or something. It must be the worst way to die, slowly, feeling the bloody drain from your body... *shudder*

I also watch the movie "inferno" i think (the one when the huge volcanoe appears in the middle of new york i think it was) And then for nights after that i was scared of the ground opening up and lava spewing out in my bedroom. Or just lying in my bed facing the door, then see lava come trickling in slowly...

Wow i think i need to get my head looked at.

what?? i dont get it...

I'm terribly afraid of "behind me". Every time I watch t.v, I must look behind my couch every 20 secondes to see if the door is closed. Same thing if I walk. If I know there is someone, I don't bother. But when I'm alone (even if it's not dark), this is a obsession.

I'm terribly afraid of clowns. I'm also terribly afraid of driving. I dread getting behind the wheel of a car, and I really do mean dread.

I think it goes without saying that this is just about the scariest goddamn thing my little mind can imagine.

Well I guess I'm just a regular conundrum, Steven. I honestly don't know what possessed me to pick Pennywise for my profile picture. I guess It just has a special, albeit slightly twisted, meaning for me.

Hmm...okay, I'll leave it be. After all, they all float down here...

Oh! Once a girl in my classroom wanted to make a joke to my teacher who had a huge fear of spiders. She just brought a rubber spider in the classroom and put it on her desk. My teacher started to scream hystericaly and she got out of the classroom for at least 20 min. When she came back, she was crying. All that to say that sometimes phobeia can be really serious and you're better not make joke on it.
