I've played the demo. I must say that I'm very dissapointed.
The only things that was impressive was the flashlight and the way you can operate computer terminals (although that's nothing new).
It felt like the enemies was spawning from all around, and maybe they were ;)
I would like to see that kind of flashlight and computer terminal functionality in HL². With doors codes being randomized every time you play of course.

Edit: Just played a bit on "Ultra" settings. The graphics is really just ok, nothing more. The textures was not good at all.
And the physics... Ha! feels almost like HL1.

Play Elite Force II instead. Puzzles, scary aliens, starships and BABES APLENTY!!!!! :p

I have the original, and I have to say it was nothing spectacular... should I get #2?

There's a woman in Doom 3! Sure, her skull pops out of her head and is a demon, but that's okay. She was hot while she was alive.

Haha, I found a demo on fileplanet for a game where you basically watch stripers do what they do best. Think I'm gonna check it out just cuz it sounds hilarious.

Remember that, her crying really freaked me out.
The only solution then was F5 and exit :)

Nothing freaked me out in D3.. a few scenes made me jump, but bah.. it wasn't scary like I was hoping :(

Hmm didnt like doom3 at all, it was just all the same the whole game nothing new or suprising just the same red eyes in the shadows.

Yep, HL is way scarier. Still get that unpleasant feeling in my gut when I'm chased by one of those big blue suckers... :E

I have only played the demo, but the one thing I thought was done really well was the part in the loo where you look in the mirror and it all suddenly goes red, and you look all old.

The ambient sounds was pretty good as well.

Doom 3 scared the crap out of me. It never really reached the freakishness levels of Silent Hill 2, but that incredibly frantic opening had me sold. I still say it's one of the best opening sequences in a video game. You really got the sense that the base was in complete chaos. I'm glad it actually portrayed the actual incident and did it really well, rather than skip it like Half-Life did. I loved how the screams and gunfire over the radio overlapped each other, especially when you're dashing back to the main building outside. The way it combined the harsh wind and the radio chatter was timeless. True chaos.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If Doom 3 doesn't scare you, you probably won't like it.

It's not that it can't scare you, but it tries the same trick over and over again. It hardly has the cool stuff like the mirror thing Farrow described (that was genuinely scary imo)
You start up the game, continue from your last save, you'll think it's scary/tense for like 10-15 minutes and then you'll just walk around and blast everything. An imp behind a door makes me jump the first time, but it sorta stops at repeat #235.

Why people continually missjudge this game is beyond me.

That's one of the more ridiculous statements I've read on here.

Ya, the lighting and shadows don't even compare to HL1.

im too scared to load the game up.. i need a reality check or some testosterone pumped into me quick :-/

Fool...
Apparently, the highest texture resolution in the industry is "just ok..."

Sadly that is the only scary moment in the game :(

Thats the highest NORMAL MAP texture resolution. The average texture resolution is actually quite low in comparison to most games now-a-days

You have to admit, the physics is really screwed up. I punched a zombie in the face, and he flew up 20 feet in the air.

Really... I'm gonna go get me some cyber W**re!

Seriously... How is the gameplay?
For EF2 its just like any other FPS: Kill kill kill :p
But the way its composed is extremely good... Dont know if everyone like it though, I loved it and I'm not really a fan of shooters.

The game was pretty good imo, it was a let down though I think 90% agree on that. The game was fun at first, with the surprises and some other little things, but to me none of this ment barely anything the second time playing it (as you expect it). It has 0 replayability, and the boses were so lame. OH no half tank half man RUUNNNNNN!!! I dont care how good the graphics look this does not look realistic. The last boss was probally easier to kill then an imp.

I played the demo and I have mixed feelings. The graphics and visuals were beautiful, I was really impressed. The sound was also wonderful tho I may be a bit partial to Mr. Reznor's work. The sound fx for the guns tho were just terrible in my opinion. The shotgun sounds like it has a silencer on it. The gameplay is very repetitive as said before and I was bummed about how they handled puzzles. It seemed like they were all optional for bonuses and consisted mainly of checking your pda, going to a terminal and entering a code. I'd rather search for a yellow keycard!

What an interesting post. I only played the demo. Maybe that's different from the retail version.

1: Your craphics card sucks.

2: You're ****ing blind.

Anyway, I liked the demo a lot. The mirror thing was freakishly cool.

You got a nice graphics card?

PiEdit - no need to quote the pictures as well

Doom III actually looks like that even if you got a 6800 Ultra in SLI mode on a 5ghzer.

But its not like there is much choice... Graphics card today CAN NOT HANDLE Doom III rendering style at Max Payne 2 quality levels, no matter how "nice" it is. There's simply not enough memory nor speed. So they had to go low resolution to make it work. And just imagine, this thing was made for the Geforce 3! :E

Doom III was fun when you played it in short doses, the Graphical effect's are beautiful.

There should be a rule in the Doom III forum on here, that states hardcore HL fanboy's arnt allowed in to post biased comment's :p

True. But the textures aren't.

How can the stating of facts be biased?

Am I a HL fanboy because I think that Doom 3 isn't a good game?

So you mean that only Doom 3 fanboy's should be allowed to post biased comments?

listen if you don't have a 512 mb graphics card you can't play the game on Ultra settings! It'll compress the textures no matter what to fit onto your graphics card!

Then it's bad for that reason. Why make a game that an overwhelming majority haven't got the hardware to play properly?

So when the hardware becomes better, people can go back to the game and play it in its full glory, they have future-proofed it.

Uhm, no... Since no one will want to play it again and what you see now is as much glory as there is. A game based on the Doom III engine in about 2-3 years, THAT will be beauty... Then again, UE3 will probably beat the snot out of it ;)
