What cartoons do you watch?

Xiaolin Showdown
Used to watch it, now it just annoys me though.

And no one told me the name of that Japanese show.

I can. The simplistic character drawings of the USA one.
The so called freakish bug eyes is at least better than having the entire character designed as if the cartoonist was paid a fiver a month.

The anime shown in the US vs Japan is called "Azumanga Daioh"

If you like comedy, you might like it. I also suggest an anime called School Rumble. I've watched a shitload of anime. If you want suggestions, feel free to ask.

I really, really hate that image because its such malarky. Its a comparison between a poor image and a good one, and its just misleading. If it was true, where would that put something like Samurai Jack, which is gorgeous? And its from the SAME PEOPLE as Dexter's Lab.

Or Invader Zim? (It may be frequently disgusting, but its on purpose. :D)

Direwolf if there's something misleading it's the Samurai Jack image.
I agree those are better drawn in comparison, but that image may be detailed and stuff, but the series itself is just as crappy drawn as Power Puff Girls, Dexter's Lad or whatever. (Someone please kill me for even knowing this )

Either way, japanese cartoons in majority are waaaay more detailed than the average american one.
I'm not saying I hate Invader Zim though. That was actually quite good.

I disagree strongly that Samurai Jack was weakly animated. It received quite a lot of critical acclaim for its amazing art style.

King of the Hill
Family Guy
American Dad
Futurama

Cant think right now...

I agree. I loved the way Samurai Jack looked and the animation certainly wasn't weak...

One anime that I really enjoyed artistically is Samurai Champloo. It's possibly one of the best drawn anime that i've seen recently. Just do a youtube or video google search for it.

I watch DBZ, Futurama, and spongebob really. I don't want TV much since I'm usually gamin and pwnin noobs

They both have freakish bug-eyes surely? But whoever said that the above images are an unfair comparrison is entirely right. You've got a horridly pixelated picture pulled from hell-knows where versus a hi-res image which is clearly from promotional materials. Whilst Azumanga did a pretty good job in having well chosen colours and detailed drawings (and on another point it has the advantage of several years youth over Dexter's Lab), it also reminds me of lengthy static shots where nothing happens and of generally choppy animation. That's the general rule with the whole American Vs Japanese debate though. Compare something like Aladdin to Porco Rosso (both made in the same year IIRC, and by the Western and Eastern powerhouses of Animation) and you'll see that the former hasn't an 8th of the detail of the later, but it moves in a wonderfully fluid way that the Japanese film doesn't.

This is all probably less notable with animation made in the noughties though... and frankly, the Americans aren't doing traditional-styled animation like they used to anyway, so the Japanese kind of win by default :p Still, Anime cuts so many goddamned corners it can be nauseating sometimes. Those Zeta Gundam compilation movies already make even less sense than the average Anime movie, so why the hell they didn't just reanimate everything instead of sticking 20 year old TV animation cells in half of the movie is far, far beyond me!

I pretty much enjoy lots of animated stuff, I've even been watching some Disney films recently, because I figured that if I like Animation and I like Musicals, I may as well risk the social stigma for something I'd probably enjoy :p Pixar and Ghibli do movies that are pretty much uniformly brilliant, but I especially love Monster's Inc, Finding Nemo / Princess Mononoke, Grave of the Fireflies, Kiki's Delivery Service. I dig South Park, Futurama, Family Guy and even have fond memories of the Simpsons before it was done to death. Anime series wise I love Zeta Gundam, Escaflowne, Turn-A Gundam and Paranoia Agent. Probably the best thing about Anime is that you can hide behind people's ignorance of what it is you're watching and completely avoid their disapproval :p

Worth noting also that many anime typically work on lower budgets, focussing more on compelling plots/characters than high-quality animation (which isn't to say they always nail that either :p).

I tend to stick to anime movies if I'm after quality of animation. Watch anything Studio Ghibli if you want the quality, the frames-per-second and none of the "bug-eyes". Check out Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust for extreme detail (and gore).

Also, I think the bug-eyes are meant to mimick american animation, or just americans in general :p. Notice noone in any anime EVER looks asian, despite the fact they typically live in Japan and speak Japanese?

the asians always have their eyes closed.

Anyway, Check out the Rules of anime

#25- Law of Mandibular Proportionality- The size of a person’s mouth is directly
proportional to the volume at which they are speaking or eating.

#11- Law of Inherent Combustibility- Everything explodes. Everything.
First Corollary- Anything that explodes bulges first.
Second Corollary- Large cities are the most explosive substances known to
human science. Tokyo in particular seems to be the most unstable of these cities,
sometimes referred to as "The Matchstick City".

#24- Law of Americanthromorphism- Americans in Anime appear in one of two roles,
either as a really nasty skinny "Bad Guy" or a big stupid "Good Guy".
First Corollary- The only people who are more stupid than the big dumb
Americans are the American translators. (Sometimes referred to as the Green Line
Effect)
Second Corollary- The only people who are more stupid than the American
translators are the American editors and censors.
*Third Corollary- Canadians are usually portrayed as smart, strong, handsome
"Good Guys".

Beavis and Butthead ftw. Cutting edge animation combined with hilarious dialogue = awesome :D

When is Beavis and Butt-head on? I thought it was cancelled off of TV forever...

We get it here.

Don't really bother with it though... movie was alright.

Erm.. lets see: Grim & Evil, Samurai Jack, Megas XLR, Johnny Quest (damn they don't show it here anymore:frown: )
