mods, please close this if you don't want to read or hear about it, as i might end up ranting here.
anyways, as i was perusing that "hotties" thread, something stuck out to me. the notion that nudity is automatically porn. now, yes, i do know that there many people here who are of a young age, but on the other hand, the belief that "nudity or visible genitalia" is automatically porn... well is a very silly, uneducated, and frankly biased world-view. 1st off, porn as someone put, it is intended to be sexually arousing. art on the other hand is an expression of an (often times) emotive nature. it is also a statement on society, a mirror of society and the artist and also can be of a purely aesthetic purpose. as an artist, i see MANY MANY pieces where the subject will be nude or partially nude. this is in no way porn. should people avert their eyes when looking in the mirror or taking a shower? should we see our mothers breasts that gave us nourishment when we were infants as a dirty ungodly thing? of course we shouldn't. such a thing is a silly hold over from the days when the human body was a "sin"ful thing(yes i put those quotes in the desired position). i say all this because thinking that ALL nudity is automatically pornography is well... insulting to me as an artist.
i'm not sitting on a high horse thinking anyone should please me by saying "oh i'm sorry to have offended you oh mighty one" ... far from it. but any artist or hell, with this postmodernist art society, any active viewer of art (w/ postmodernist art, the viewer becomes a part of the art piece by interacting with the environment in which the art is displayed) would and SHOULD be a little miffed at the idea that a nipple constitutes pornography.
i do think there should be tact involved, of course with the issue of porn in a public landscape such as this. but this is for my own reasons, as i think porn displays a wrong idea of what females are like and what they want, and this can leave a lasting impression on a younger mind... it's not because i'm offended by the human body. i AM glad that the forums are moderated so closely for things like porn, but i guess what i'm trying to say, in a very garrulous manner is please don't jump to such immediate conclusions that a nipple or something like that is an evil thing. yes, i've read the forum rules, and i agree with them, but ya know, if say, in the art forum for example, someone wants to display their art, and it happens to be a life-drawing of a nude woman, or some photography and has some nudity... well it's not necessarily porn.
any opinions to add to this discussion would be appreciated. thanks for taking your time to read this.
