What Happened to Barney??????

The last train out of City 17 didn't make it.
It means that Barney won't be able to escape from C.17.
He may be still alive, however - the city hasn't exploded yet, just the Citadel did.A couple of times.
And - c'mon,who's gonna give Gordon a crowbar? :)
Barney still has access to Kleiner's lab. That means he can "videophone" Kleiner and get all the instructions how to start an automated teleportation sequence City 17 -> White Forest.
This is a slow teleport, and Barney will land in White Forest only a few weeks later. In the Fourth Episode.
He'll hug Alyx,he'll greet Gordon and buy y'all a beer.
By the way, there were two real Barneys back in Black Mesa. One of them looks like in a Gearbox game. The second is a young Barney from half-Life 2.Where is the second one,no one knows. He has been cloned for a thousand times.
I think Barney is alive.Definitely.
He still waits for Gordon and he misses the good old beer no one makes these times.

His train left a few minutes before Gordon's train did, and despite crashing, the crash wasn't very severe and they survived. But there are a lot of other ways to die. He could be dead, but he could still possibly be alive.

He's alive, you know that crowbar you find in the elevator, Barney put it there! If you look carefully through each level you will find a crowbar somewhere. In the last level, the crowbar is Eli's prostetic leg and if you take it he will fall over and die. This results in an alternate ending. Whilst you do this Barney is watching you through a camera he installed in the H.E.V suit, sitting back and drinking your beer!

Barney obviously got on the wrong train, this train makes an u turn and goes back to the city,

No comments on the awesome work of fiction that is Dying Within?
FINE!

This forum is like a fucking manhack fest.

Also, Barney will come back and defeat Mechagodzilla in the next HL.

You mean Mecha-Breen? And stop by-passing the swear filter. Like, you can, but it's there for a reason...

The current state of Barney is unknown, as he is not seen at all during Episode 2. It is assumed he made it to White Forest, or some area nearby, but not much else is known.

It was a mistake for VALVe to not say anything at all about Barney in Episode Two.

He's a substantial character. :/

^ No it wasn't, shoehorning him into Ep2 (epecially if his storyline is going someplace else) would be the mistake.

Consider the fact that Gordon and Alyx's train was completly derailed by the shockwave, and seeing as the bridge they were on collapsed, its quite easy to assume that some farther down the line did as well, impeding the progress of Barney. Even so, Barney had a much larger group to deal with, and I HIGHLY doubt that they could match the time of Alyx and Gordon made to White Forest, unless the found 10 perfectly preserved 4 wheelers or somthing of that nature. Also, Barney was as cut off as Gordon and Alyx at the beginning of Ep. 2, and wouldnt have had directions. That concludes my hypothesis, any rebuttals?

One of the rebels in White Forest says: "hey, freeman, i want to say thanks beacuse i was in the train you helped escape". And the only train that Gordon helped to escape was the one with Barney.
Oh, and Barney`s voice can be heard after the final battle.

When the last strider is defeated and you enter the base. You can hear Barney`s voice saying "Good job, Gordon".

Prolly on the ship. But that would seem odd in some ways. Or something else.

There was a pime taradox and Barney Calhoun was switched with Barney Rubble...

Reading this Thread I realized Halflife2.net turned into planethalflife.com.

nobody knows what happen and I don't think valve is going to tell us anytime soon I bet they're reading these comments and saying

"Geez why won't these people get a life!!"

I'm not being mean but it I feel like a puppet without the fisting

I'm not even going to bother reading all these posts -- if you read the Info Received From Valve Only thread, you will have your answer. I believe Laidlaw answers this in a reply to someone's email.

EDIT: Instead of telling you to go back and read it, I've gone ahead and done the legwork for you, making a new thread with the exact email:

Why would they kill Barney without showing us in-game? He's too much of a major character. It's not like they can get away with saying "buy HL2: Ep3 oh and btw Barney is dead."

Seriously, if they killed Barney, I think I'd probably punch somebody, form an angry mob, or possibly even cry non-stop for three days or until my parents considered therapy.

But that's the brilliance of it, it will come as such a shock. In fact I expect the one liner from a random NPC telling us that Barney is dead to be the most emotional moment in all of Half-Life.

You seem to be under the impression that emotional is good.

Err yeah, it's a large point to the game - to make you feel something. To make you feel scared or amazed or say "OMG this is awesome" or to make you laugh, etc, etc.

Yeah, well I'm not one of those chicks who finds joy in a sad movie or video game. I'm one of those chicks who wants to beat the living crap out of somebody when my favorite character dies. I like to be scared, I like to be amazed, I like to laugh, but I don't like to be sad. Man, people are so confusing.

barney is living and breathing..

he's a parnoid guy and parnoid people are catuion

Yeah, I wonder where barney went. It seems like everyone who came out of City 17 all went to White Forest. Maybe there is a different base somewhere. Maybe Black Forest? :D

Guys, it's obvious what will happen with Barney in Episode Three:

He is alive, and he will be in Episode Three. At the end of Episode Three, after Gordon kills the last Combine Advisor with a crowbar, it is obvious that Barney will come out of nowhere, and say to Gordon, "Ha ha! I was with Breen all along!" Then, dramatic music will begin to play as Barney begins to crouch-jump around the room aimlessly for about five minutes, acting like this is an excellent battle plan to defeat Gordon. Gordon will then pull out his Pulse Rifle and shoot a Pulse orb at Barney, who is still crouch-jumping, and Barney will be disinegrated in mid-air, thus ending his 5-game legacy. Then, Gordon will pull a beer out of nowhere and throw it in the air at the point where Barney's body was last seen before it was obliterated. Then, Gordon will finally speak after being mute through all of the Half-Life games, and he will say "You owe me a beer, dumbass." Then, Gordon will walk away, crowbar in hand, slowly into a black abyss. Finally, the credits will come up, and at the end of the credits, a picture of Gabe Newell eating a Burger King Quintuple-Stacker will suddenly appear.

What a great way to end the Half-Life series!!!
Am I right, or am I right? :D
