An interesting article has been posted by our friends at Gamasutra about the ultimate fate of Turtle Rock Studios. You may remember that "Valve acquired Turtle Rock" in January 2008 to ultimately form Valve South, but things didn't quite pan out as expected:
After several members of the Valve South team -- which Lombardi described as only ever numbering "nine or 11 in total" -- moved up to Bellevue, the remaining staff were not enough to justify a fully-fledged studio.[br]At that scale, "the idea of having an office with a receptionist and all of that kind of goes out the window," Lombardi said. As far as Booth and his current team, "that group of people looks like the original Turtle Rock again, and I think they may even prefer to call themselves that," he added.
The article also mentions that this team is once again working on a new collaboration with Valve, but at this time they are not releasing any further details.[br]For the full story, click here.

ZOMG!! It's Chris_D!! :D

Cue rampant speculation of what Turtle Rock is working on.

I assumed what was left of Turtle Rock were working on L4D2. Guess not.

Yay, left4dead 3!!!

Interesting article, I wonder what it is they're working on--I kind of hope it's an IP.

Yes, anything they work on would be an "IP". Do you mean a new IP, or a known Valve IP?

Yeah, this is actually few days old.

just stay away from my HL universe turtle rock

Although the prospect that VALVE may be developping a new franchise is interesting, I just hope it's half life related. Opposing force 2? C'mon VALVE!

Barnz, I find it pretty funny that the tone of your posts usually match the tone of your avatar.

Also, "New Collaboration" could mean so many different things, it almost doesn't mean anything except it's from Valve and it's new (both of which are promising).

Also, I rampantly speculate that Turtle Rock are working on... a video game.

That can be played psychically.

Turtle rocks new IP has just been announced. Its another WWII franchise! WOO!! Jk, have no idea... should hopefully be something pretty original...

Think of this news post as sort of a cameo appearance.

Lovely to see you all :)

I can see why they would prefer to be called Turtle Rock instead of VAVLe South. I was never a fan of studios losing some of their identity to become "Studio location" such as TRS becoming VALVe South and Irrational games becoming 2K Boson/Australia (and many more examples).

A new 4 player COOP. Maximum Overdrive. 4 players must work together to survive the onslaught of machines that have 'come to life' to kill humanity. Battle cars, diseals, lawn mowers, stoves, toasters, alarm clocks, and a whole lot more!

Hey- i bet the game would be better than the movie.

They're working on Left 4 Dead 3, due out summer 2010.

:| Seriously. This joke got old about the 100th time I read it the day L4D2 was announced last week. You might as well linked Valve time for good measure.
