Are all the pre-loaded GCF's going to change into one big gcf like half-life.gcf? instead of all those it will be half-life 2.gcf? I just want to know because since i don't have a dvd burner yet, I'm going to have to use winzip to split and/or compress the file(s) to back them up on CD.

I don't think so. Maybe...maybe not.

What id like to know, is how do you change skins and models to custom stuff in games like day of defeat.

I know in the old install, you just dropped a new garand model into the models/weapons/garand.mdl and copyed over the old one.

How can you do this when the whole game is just 1 massive file? And do they get changed when they make a new patch? Do custom models work in steam?

I mean, they make resonably low res models for the default game, to cater for cheapasses with commodore 64s. But for the rest of us with decent systems who want the highest quality skins and models, you want to be able to customise your whole game.

Go to your ...\Steam\SteamApps\blah\day of defeat\dod\models

And put it there.

rocketman - on release only one change will be made:

the encrypted stuff will be unencrypted.

otherwise everything will stay as is. they are in "base source shared" files because the are shared between several source engine games (believe it or not!)

instead of posting new thread, i post in here::

i dont know why..
I haven't downloaded the game..
I didnt pre-order the game..

but god damn, steam likes to change my random WindowsXP file icons to HL2 file icons...

Hahaha... I have one of those too! It's a .sav file and has the same icon as what She just posted... Damn, did we run out of unique file extensions already?

New from Microsoft: File Extention Version 6 (FeV6)! New file extentions available with up to 6 characters! Book yours today!

a 4GB gcf file could take it's time to process.

Also FAT32 would be reaching it's limits.

And also it allows for shared content without much hassle, again a 4GB file and you need a single file or something. So i doubt it will be gathered.
