What is most important to you in Ep2?

The Houndeyes and Bullsquids should come back, they were awesome, and there would be animals in forests so Bullsquids could eat them there.

Id like to see something rivalling the antlions to appear, fair enough the ant lions dominated the sandy beaches where it is easy for them to bury themselves, but hopefully there will be other fauna (bullquids!) which are actually competing with the antlions - i find it a bit bleak that antlions are everywhere :(

It'd be nice if a Gonarch showed up in one section. :D

maybe some sort of insectoid alien. lots of different species live in forests and everything. oh, wait, if it's an insect it wouldn't be able to breath properly. ahh.... whatever! it's a sci-fi... ish game for crying out loud. perhaps something that LOOKS or ACTS like an insect. maybe even the whatevers, but BEFORE they were captured by the combine and made into synths! i'm such a schizo, just listen to me!!!:p

I think Episode 2 in my hands is the most important thing.

D:

Gordon Frohman showing up :D

Huh?Do you meen...That there will be a Conserned: Episode One?

Anyway,back on-topic.To me,the most important things in Ep2 are:

Story
Enviroment
New Characters/better AI
Physics/graphics/effects
New weapons

Frickin Snarks!

There's still one more weapon slot in the sixth group. And along with the organic bug bait, Snarks would be kick-ass.

More weapons, enemies that i have not seen before and no more zombies, they stink up my suit every time!

that plus a better new weapon and not so much on the damn gravity gun. Yes its cool, but not so much now.

hey, without Zombies, what would Ravenholm or Low Life be??? Exactly... Zombies add to the suspense and are too awesome to ditch out of the project... It's like saying 'No More Antlions'

I think I've had my fill of Antlions for quite awhile...

Yeah, the antlion example was pretty bad, but they're (more or less... probably less) as important as the Zombies.

I still love the gravity gun, but it does get... monotonous after a while. It's gotten to the point where in pretty much any game I try to grab something and throw it at an enemy and get confused when it doesn't work. :p

Ravenholm was frikking awesome but in areas that are not reliant on suspense, like the city, they're not so interesting. Plus i still can't get over that the only new enemy in episode 1 was ANOTHER DAMN ZOMBIE WITH A LITTLE NEW ATTACK, more effort is needed.

Don't you badmouth the Zombine. Hearing the extremely cool mixture between Combine and Zombie voices scared my ass off the first time.

And if I do? If I were to say that just making a zombie Combine was so lame that they should suffer false advertising claims for saying that there are "new enemies" would you really be able to refute me? Plus the voice sounds like a regular zombie voice. By the way, they can also stay away from the exploding barrel obsession for a while. And a new weapon of Combine origin would be appreciated but well probably just get more junk to throw with the Gravity Gun and just call it a new weapon

Did you notice the distorted Combine radio messages from the Zombines? Is a new enemy a new enemy and that's that? Yes. They provided one - maybe, by your standards, a crap one - but it's still a new enemy. Refuted!

Mmmm, Black Hole Grenades. That'd be cool.

I would like to have a mission where you fly a attack chopper and kill some Combine noob-but!

Muffled radio chatter is not nearly as upsetting as the voices of citizens with headcrabs as they burn or walk around. The Zombine themselves sound like regular zombies. Plus that enemy was not original worth a damn , not like the Hunter, looks like something they cut from the original version but decided to implement now that the Combine security measures are out of order.Indeed a crap one. Refuted in the face like a porno!

Mmmm, Black Hole Grenades. That'd be cool.

Or a gun that shoots razor wire and wraps up Overwatch so you can hit them in the face with a crowbar, SOMETHING that provides more enjoyment to destroying Overwatch would be needed to add value.

What if, Gordon came across another city in EP2? He's already in between cities as it is, so what if he came across a new town (like City 17) and found some key story line items from this city?

What's most important to me is Gman.

If they just give me another 10 seconds of him, I'll be happy. VERY happy.

But, what would be awesome is another speech. So far, my favourite has been the ending of HL1.

Agreed. 10 seconds of GMan = a year and a half of plot discussion. :E

They have plenty of Gman to go around the entire series is about him and the character, I would love to see serious battle sequences that show the tide turning against the Combine, large scale and awesome

The tide turning against the Combine? Why? It'd be cooler if the rebels got slaughtered.

What? man go to Ravenholm and catch crabs, the Combine piss me off and seeing the rebels prevail would take some effort and good storytelling to fit into the last two episodes. Some swift stuff has to be done to drive them from our worlds

Didn't like Empire Strikes Back, eh?

:( I wanted to save another city from the brink of total destruction and create ANOTHER rebel uprising! Aww well.

More effort is needed? I loved the Zombine. Most developers would have just uped the health and armour (cheers adam!), whereas Valve chose to give it an interesting and unique new attack. The result? One of my favourite ever Half-life enemies. I see no reason as to why this is lazy at all when most shooters don't even go that extra effort.

 Most developers would've thrown in at least two completely new enemies plus a few new weapons. So sorry but IMHO their "efforts" in this matter are equivalent to a team of moders...

And now in Ep3 the only real new enemy ( at least from the videos I've seen) is the hunter, as for the other two.... 2 types of antlion, HORAY!! Those blasted antlions should be completely removed but no instead they make the equivalent of Ravenholm but with antlions... yey

but I know it's pointless to talk to you about this anyway so...

So because they didn't flunk out like other developers and go down the generic route they are lazy? I think you're looking in the wrong direction when it comes to quality and effort. Valve did throw in some new weapons, actually, they were simply more innovative than your usual ho-hum variant. What a dismal shame people still have that black and white, mundane and dire view on what is quality and innovation. Of course, judging from your post talking to you about something like this is pointless.

To compare new enemies from OP4 and EP1 (code-/AI-wise).

Opposing Force:
Black Ops - Faster h-gurnts with kung-fu
Shock Troopers - H-grunts with a new gun and different grenades
Pit Drones - Faster bullsquids
Voltigores - Standard lots o' health and damage enemy

Episode One:
Zombine - Faster zombie with more health and (this is the important bit) a new f*cking ability.

Episode One may not have had quantity but at least it had something bloody new and interesting.

You are the most prickly nerd of Half life i have ever seen, the zombie Combine was a very uninspired enemy. It very well could have been something they cut out from the first game and only recently decided to add due to story advancement like the removal of whatever protection fields kept the Headcrabs off. There were NO new weapons for Episode 1 and they didnt add any new objects to throw with the Gravity Gun either, just the rollermines being reprogrammed, I could have gotten into ripping power reserves from Combine vehicles and shooting them at Overwatch, but there was not anything like that. Continuing to be such an unabashed cheerleader for everything Valve will not motivate them to new content the game deserves.

I really did enjoy Episode 1, the first two chapters were the finest quality i have ever seen, but after that it was something aggravating. More damn barrels and zombies. The inclusion of blocking antlion holes with cars was clever, but other than that it was not to quality. Level design did feel improved and had some clever puzzles to use the Gravity Gun for. It showed how they could keep such content in new ways to use. The linear layout did work well in this one unlike HL2 as you were just making your way from one point to another. But the last area left much room for improvement and could have been shortened. The appearance of common enemies such as gunships and Striders as some sort of boss fight shows how flagrantly they do not choose to add new enemies. Maybe they feel all niches of the enemy have been filled, that is far from evident.

I get the point of episodic content, but I like to take all episodes as an expansion pack if not a new game. Considering this, Episodes 2 and 3 have a lot of new content to add.

Opposing force had new attacks for the enemies and did add a lot. The new ability of Episode 1 was a damn grenade, nothing new.

I like how you think you talk in facts. I applaud any developer who doesn't go down the mundane route of 'new weapons and new enemies'. New weapons will not make the game any better. It's interesting because in comparison to Episode 1 Opposing Force did nothing. It didn't take FPS anywhere, whereas Episode 1 does new things, offers a variety of enhancements and does things with gameplay that most developers don't even consider. I'm sorry you see things in such a mundane way.

There is not a thing wrong with new weapons and enemies, and i would love to hear exactly how the Episode 1 experience transcends such things. new enemies would go a long way to showing the escalation of the conflict as the Combine tries to send more and deadlier evils to fight on Earth. The escalation is critical to putting an end to the conflict and the story would go on strong.

BTW I do enjoy the twists that Episode 1 throws like the antlions in the streets and the shutting down the core and the data packet worth this, just the fighting was not enough. And Opposing Force did what expansion packs do well. Episode 1 kept the story exciting and new keeping me wanting the next chapter more
