Theories? Anyone have any information that will help us out?

The "average of 4 release candidates for a game" has long since pastt. We're into RC 9 and half or something. Yet all these PC magazines are giving Half-Life 2 ridiculously high scores for a pre-RC version. So judging from that there are NO bugs worthy of holding it back. CS:S is finished and released.

Are Vivendi currently excercising their right to delay the gold copy for 6 months? Possibly.

Are they waiting for the December court hearing before doing anything? Maybe.

Are Vivendi simply holding it back to release closer to Christmas? Strange, because a game like Half-Life 2 is NOT seasonal. It will sell huge amounts of copies whenever the hell you release it. JAr jars castle of fluffy bunnies and pooopoo cows IS seasonal. Parents shopping around for things to shut up their nagging offspring for a few hours a day are more likely to purhcase such a pointless money generating game.

You ask any gamer if they're more likely to buy Half-Life 2 closer to Christmas and they'll say "No, i'll buy it WHENEVER the hell it is released!!". If someone could honestly tell me they're more likely to buy it near Christmas time i wouldn't believe them.

Are Vivendi simply just gearing up for a release? Finalising box details, conversing with retailers. preparing the advertising campaign?? Maybe....

WHAT THE **** ARE THEY DOING?

They have to mlik the cash cow and wait until the Novmember .......

They could be doing it out of spite. Valve just sold a SHITLOAD of copies and Vivendi hasn't said anything about when it'll be good to go. If I were them, I'd want to get it out the door ASAP so they can get SOME money from retail sales, before Steam sucks it all up. Not that valve doesn't deserve it. I like Steam's buying options. Quick and painless, no annoying nerd at the game store... woo!

All good questions and we demand and ANSWER VU!!!

Please let there be some announcement soon, even tomorrow. Even if it is november, I would get total closure just knowing a official date and move on.

I think the last thing you said is what they are doing. I think they might be preparing for the gold announcement. If we are wrong. We can always go ask Mr. Owl. "Mr. Owl, what the **** is Vivendi doing?"
"Oh, I don't know. PREPARING FOR THE GOLD ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!1!!!!11" *Mr. Owl pulls out a crowbar and hits me over the head* *dying noises*

I dont think we're gonna have to wait much longer

I dont think we're gonna have to wait much longer for HL2. Even with those @ssholes at Vivendi causin trouble, with the pre-loads set and CS: S already released(to ppl who pre-prdered), I think we're gonna see HL2 in stores within the month or so

Currently shitting themselves as they watch Steam pre-sales gobble up all their potential profit.

Boss: "O.K., tell me again why we tried to stonewall Valve when they had the legal right to start taking online preorders?"

Legal Council: "Well, it seemed like a good idea a few weeks ago."

That would be a real treat. I never expected it before my birthday (well, I did last year, heh,) but that would definetly be nice.

man I might be a bit ticked if I was vivendi, they sure are stupid.

Its been 3 weeks and no peep...they are obviously holding it off till November. I hope they go under and VALVe wins the court case.

A couple of thousand people buying over steam is a drop in the bucket compared to the millions upon millions they expect for a November release.

Half Life 2 will not sell "millions upon millions" you Stupid. Halo 2 will sell more then HL2 and GTA SA will sell more then both of them. PC game sells are far less then console games simply because PC gaming isn't very mainstream. I expect HL2 to sell more then Doom (700,000+) and less then Sims 2. the HL2 demographic isn't as big as Sims 2 (oddly enough).

lets all spam Vivendi with emails demanding they release the game now or we will ALL buy it via steam (not like we already haven't but we won't tell them that) :D

arent they supposed to go to court or something tomorrow? does anyone know?

I am not buying the game on steam

Spam hey?

Well, it can't hurt...me. I'll spam their customer supports emails for the next few weeks and see if i get a response.

"JAr jars castle of fluffy bunnies and pooopoo cows" OMGZ that will be Teh best game ev0r!!1!1

Hey how do you know how many rc are sent, where do you find that out?
Well i don't know for sure but there was a guy in this thread speaking about it. HE seemed to have a lot of inside knowledge of how it all works.
http://community.vugames.com/[email protected]@.1dd82db4

For 72 hours, VUG QA will test the RC for serious problems. If nothing serious is found within those 72 hours, the game will be sent to replication and could be sent to stores two weeks later. If, however, serious problems become evident, Valve will have to fix them and make sure they cause no new problems, and then send a new RC to VUG QA for AOK. TLA.

Unless, of course, my own experiences with VUG are drastically different from the special coddling treatment Valve are enjoying. Ah-hehm.

Taking into account the high scores the magazines have given Half-Life 2 you'd assume there are no huge problems.

Yea I think there are two court cases one tomorrow and one on december, also I remeber hering on this site in a interview where doug said we are releasing it october 8 no matter what, but this is old new. Has it changed?? I mean steam updated for release of cs on october 7 could somthing happen tommorrow, I doubt it in lease of luck but, at least I give it 2% of my hoped for tomorrow.

Halo PC -- which is an atrocious, half-assed port -- sold over a million copies, and I'd say the Half-Life franchise is at least as well known as Halo. Regardless, precedent does not agree with you.

Both companies reported today that the total sales of the recently released Half-Life Game of the Year Edition™ combined with the original version, have propelled the franchise to the coveted #1 PC Data slot by revenue for the week of July 25th. Since its release in November of 1998, Half-Life has won more than 40 Game of the Year honors and has sold over one million units worldwide.

http://half-life.sierra.com/official-releases.html
That figure was posted August 30, 1999. In the five years since then, I'd wager the total units sold has probably topped the 3 million mark.

I hear this all the time, and regardless of repetition, it doesn't make the statement any less bullshit.

In August 2000, 54 million households, or 51 percent, had one or more computers, up from 42 percent in December 1998

http://www.census.gov/prod/2001pubs/p23-207.pdf
That's just in the US, and the figure has probably risen to around 80-100 million by now. So 80-100 million people (in the US) own a machine that is capable of playing video games, and they know (for the most part) they're able to play games on it. Buddy, if that's not mainstream, I don't know what is.

And yes, I know sales of console titles surpasses PC titles, but that's not really relevant to what I'm saying.

Let's hope that Valve and VUG are planing a big gold-suprise tommorrow!

lololol, gabe is fat, vug r @ssholes, rollflie am i rite?

[sarcasm] >_> I hate VUG because valve told me too! [/sarcasm]

1. After a whole year, Halo MIGHT have reached 1 million after one whole year (or more) but people think HL2 will sell "millions" in its first week, that wont happen even in a few week, maybe A million in the first month but stop kidding yourself fanboys. Sims 2 is THEE most grossing PC game ever. Vivendi needs money NOW, not for it to take 5 years to accumilate after HL2 has sold a million.

2. How can that figure be from 1999 when Halo PC was just released last year? If you ment Half Life then your WRONG cause Half Life has not nearly as much noteriety as Half Life and if i walk up and down my city streets asking people the majority of people will not know what the hell you are talking about. I know the larger demographic, and I (unlike you and your shotty statistics which are easy to see through as glass) know what im talking about. its taken Half Life since '98 to reach 3 million copies while its taken GTA Vice City since 2002 to reach 7+ million copies.

3. PC GAMING, P-C G-A-M-I-N-G isn't mainstream, your a joke, how many people are going to spend so much money on PC's to keep them up to date? the console market is far more accessable. 2 or 300 hundred dollars every 5 or 6 years and your set. PC Gaming, 500 to 1000 dollars to re upgrade every 2 or 3 years depending on what you change, no one WANTs to play really nice looking games on crappy hardware that ruins the expierence. but they are forced tobecause they dont have the money to upgrade it. your statement stated that so many people have PC's yes...alot of people own PC's, but that doesn't mean they are, which is a weak minded assumption on your part (along with your weak arguement, shotty statistics, and untrue so called facts). Only a fraction of PC owners are into PC gaming. On the many of PC's i have worked on and seen, the lot of people weren't into PC games, let alone had the hardware to run todays top PC games.

On an ending note i could have went far more into this subjects and picked and pieced but since i know that i am right and anyone who dis-agrees with me is wrong this is all the time i needed to spend. Cheers

Then explain how the original halflife did indeed sell millions, and even sold much more than the original halo for that matter.

You mean the sims 1.

If you ment Half Life then your WRONG cause Half Life has not nearly as much noteriety as Half Life
Moo?

PC GAMING, P-C G-A-M-I-N-G isn't mainstream
By mainstream i assume you mean Pc games don't sell as much as console game. Yes, the console market is more profitable for a variety of reasons. Which is why Valve are releasing HL2 on X-box as well.

But why are we talking about this in a thread trying to find out what Vivendi could be doing at this point in time.

What could Vivendi be doing right now...as we...post on forums. ? What a mystery..

your post sucks and so do you.

PC gaming is a plenty large market, thats why they make games for the pc. dur.

Now you see, as much I as want to see HL2, I don't want Vivendi to 'go under'. They have published good games in the past, and they have some good ones to come, too.

the developers who made those good games vug releases will be able to find a new publisher. I say keep the french out of the video game buisness, they should stick to stinky chese.

I have a feeling Valve will release some financial statements and other numbers regarding some steam sales from yesterday to VUG :)

Well lets not rule the French out completely. Crytek are French aren't they? Though i believe they've surrendered their services to EA.

HAHAHAHA

Ok.

Vivendi is trying to screw Valve for trying to screw Vivendi with Steam.

Ironic that steam has caused the consumer so much angst. If there was no steam we'd probably be playing Half-Life 2 now.

SCREW YOU VALVE!

errr wth. I now hate everyone involved with Half-Life2. Give Mr-Fusion the game now!!

1. After a whole year, Halo MIGHT have reached 1 million after one whole year (or more) but people think HL2 will sell "millions" in its first week
Who in this thread said that? Point me to it.
2. How can that figure be from 1999 when Halo PC was just released last year?
Dude, are you high on meth, did you take too many laxatives again, or can you just plain not read? The figure I cited, and the one you are referring to is HALF-LIFE sales.
If you ment Half Life then your WRONG
 http://half-life.sierra.com/official-releases.html
Half Life has not nearly as much noteriety as Half Life and if i walk up and down my city streets asking people the majority of people will not know what the hell you are talking about.
Prove it. I suggest you get started now.
3. PC GAMING, P-C G-A-M-I-N-G isn't mainstream, your a joke
And you don't know the difference between your and you're. Example: You're dumb.
how many people are going to spend so much money on PC's to keep them up to date?
Yeah, Nvidia, ATI, Intel, AMD, etc, all insignificant little companies that can barely keep their heads above water, let alone turn a profit. Obviously there is no sustainable market for PC equipment and upgrades.
the console market is far more accessable.
Thanks, Captain Obvious.
PC Gaming, 500 to 1000 dollars to re upgrade every 2 or 3 years depending on what you change, no one WANTs to play really nice looking games on crappy hardware that ruins the expierence.
Yeah, because every PC game in existence utilizes a cutting edge engine that requires top-of-the-line equipment.
On an ending note i could have went far more into this subjects and picked and pieced but since i know that i am right and anyone who dis-agrees with me is wrong this is all the time i needed to spend. Cheers
Oh, please continue. I find you highly amusing.

Also, this was pretty funny, can't believe I missed it the first time around -

Half Life has not nearly as much noteriety as Half Life
Dude, you just blew my mind. Sell me some of your drugs?

ZING!!!!!!!!

Also, about the French, they are also good at making white flags.

Seeing HL2 and DoD:2 in the play games list, but not being able to play it is starting to piss me off. I WANT HL2 TO COME OUT NOWWWWWWW.
