Theories? Anyone have any information that will help us out?
The "average of 4 release candidates for a game" has long since pastt. We're into RC 9 and half or something. Yet all these PC magazines are giving Half-Life 2 ridiculously high scores for a pre-RC version. So judging from that there are NO bugs worthy of holding it back. CS:S is finished and released.
Are Vivendi currently excercising their right to delay the gold copy for 6 months? Possibly.
Are they waiting for the December court hearing before doing anything? Maybe.
Are Vivendi simply holding it back to release closer to Christmas? Strange, because a game like Half-Life 2 is NOT seasonal. It will sell huge amounts of copies whenever the hell you release it. JAr jars castle of fluffy bunnies and pooopoo cows IS seasonal. Parents shopping around for things to shut up their nagging offspring for a few hours a day are more likely to purhcase such a pointless money generating game.
You ask any gamer if they're more likely to buy Half-Life 2 closer to Christmas and they'll say "No, i'll buy it WHENEVER the hell it is released!!". If someone could honestly tell me they're more likely to buy it near Christmas time i wouldn't believe them.
Are Vivendi simply just gearing up for a release? Finalising box details, conversing with retailers. preparing the advertising campaign?? Maybe....
WHAT THE **** ARE THEY DOING?
