What monsters from Half-Life...

Ah, another thing that confirms content from the HL1 expansions in HL2:

The original HL2 PC Gamer article stated that Gabe himself told them that the barnacle gun would make a comeback in HL2...

A Predator type alien. One thats not a dumb slow big ol P*SSY! One that hangs around on rooftops, follows you but doesn't attack, only watches... It watches for a certain amount of time then attacks full speed! Go watch Predator 1, youll feel me on this one for sure. Imagine a flock of them just hopping from rooftop to rooftop as you fight below. And your warned, "Dont shoot at any of them or they'll come down and wipe everyone out, human and alien alike. But if your the last one left in a fight you wont win...well you understand"

Maybe they can roll wit the G-Man ;) Wouldn't that be sick to see him with one as a bodygaurd, shoulder beam, heat vision and 40 foot leap. Call G-Man on the cell and ask him who hes drinkin wit...and he answers..."Death." Give him a human equal IQ also, that would be fun.

I really hope they don't cut any of the original guys, as they were all extremely cool. Op4 too. None are at all cut-worthy.

That said, I think that the houndeyes should be back en masse. I love those little guys.
Plus, they were only good in groups. With current tech, fighting over a dozen at once is entirely possible.

edit: I just realized: If the race-x shock trooper is back, so is the lightning bug! Or vice-versa!

Ah yes, the garg. I never figured out what the 'stomp' attack was supposed to be. However, the damage type is labelled as 'Sonic' in the Half-Life source code, and the HEV voice says "Internal bleeding detected!" when you receive this type of damage. I guess internal bleeding could be likely outcome of being subjected to ultra high intensity sound waves

You're right, but what makes animals have internal bleeding are infra-sound waves. And your idea about the remake of sonic attack is very good. Garg is my favorite alien from HL1, i hope Valve put him back

Fighting over a dozen is already possible in the HL engine, just make a simple map (simple square room) and add a about 30 houndeyes :)
You'll get owned by them. But in HL, I can't recall even being damaged by a group of houndeyes, let alone be killed. They were seriously underpowered.

Uurgh, I really didn't like the houndeyes. As stated, they just weren't effective enough as an enemy, at least in their original formations. Low health, convenient size and the fact that they stopped their attack when damaged enough makes them truly pitiful. Too may Sven Co-op mappers use the bloody things... there is nothing more idiotic and annoying than a 4000 health houndeye

I'm hoping that some enemy will take the place of the houndeye as a pack creature... something big enough to pounce and run and knock debris aside as they scuttle around trying to eviscerate you. Not some noisy multi-eyed freak that happily tries to gib fellow Xenizens...

I liked them. I regarded them as frightened little creatures in an unfamiliar environment. Didn't stop me shooting them, though :E.

I certainly hope that the Shock-trooper and Shock-roach are back. The Shock-roach was one of my favourite weapons from OP4. I liked the little lizard-gun better, though. He was cute.

Also, Valve originally planed on the houndeyes being non-hostile units but players in play tests likes to shoot them so they made them enemies.

They should make the houndeyes run away if there is only one or two of them. If there are over 6 or so, they would attack you.

Not every creature has to hate you (unless you try to kill em obviously). It adds to the immersion, or the feeling that you are not just playing 'a game'.

They definitely could use an upgrade in AI and damage dealt. Maybe life-wise as well.
Still, I wouldn't want to replace them.
Maybe they will have become accustomed to the new environment, thus becoming the ultimate predator? :D

headcrabs of course, but actually i'd like to see most of the original monsters back :)

It makes me wonder if the Gonarch is going to turn up in Half Life 2 (somethings has to spawn those tiny headcrabs)

You mean a Gonarch. I wonder if the first one was the only one.

Somehow I doubt it. You?

Well since Headcrabs were much lower on the foodchain on Xen I think it would be like in Aliens. There is only one "Queen", but when a queen dies a bunch of half-evolved Headcrabs duke it out for who will be the next.

Houndeye needs to have some new attack, or it's original attack must have atleast been improved. Maybe like the screen turning blurry when it's charging it's attack near you like sound waves affect you stomach and make you nauseous. But a melee attack would be nice too, a houndeye trying to ram you. They need to be faster too.

Anything! They are by far the most simple creature ever. You should be not only blurred in vision but also slow down after being hit with sonic blast.
