I'm hoping to get a replacement motherboard for Christmas. My current setup is:

Asus M2n32-SLI Deluxe
Athlon64 X2 4600+
2GB DDR2-800 RAM
Radeon X1900XT
Windows XP

I'm torn between getting a straight replacement, upgrading to a socket AM2+ board, or going to LGA775 route and buying a Core 2 processor. I haven't kept up with hardware since about two years ago. Any advice is welcome.

I'll probably end up getting this via trading in a poorly-chosen motherboard. But I can't blame my family for not knowing anything about this :p

upgrade to a socket AM2 mobo and get one of those phenom quadcores. i recommend gigabyte mobos. they're affordable, reliable, and have lots of options.
