I seen alot of american teens girls write "XoXo" at the end of their email\message...what does it mean? I always wondered...

****en netspeak. I was talking to a local girl on msn a while back an everytime she wrote lol it was like "// lol", I was gonna ask her about the forward slashes, but I concluded I'm a 'netspeak-noob' and would look stupid for asking, so didnt bother..

perhaps SHE is the net speak noob.

and x's and o's are like, 200+ years old people, you know, from snail mail....

What, xoxo? I've heard of that way before the internet became popular (it means hugs and kisses, by the way).

You guys can stop blaming every abbreviation/symbol on the internet now. ;)

yeah, i guess its those people that started xoxo's that are to blame for that dang annoying internet lingo. so nobody be mad at the internet anymore, it was some chick who wrote it to her boyfriend back in 1873. :)

I thought you put oXo in your gravy for sunday lunch?

It's not netspeak, it's been around a long time.

But yes, it means hugs and kisses.

lets ask to some girl in this forums
(if are girls in these forums)

XOXO has been used the entire century and the later half of the one before..

Basically, she wants you to slip a rohypnol in her next drink.

My question is how can someone not know what xoxo means?

I've known that since...exactly forever.

And as for internet abbreviations...I hate them, saying lol after someone says anything drives me nuts. Forums like these have helped me talk normal on the internet.

hey how the hell should i know that?..im from sweden..

to go a little deeper into it...the X's are supposed to represent puckered lips, and the O's represent encircling someone in your arms. Hence XOXO=hugs and kisses.

yeah, infact, its my grandma that told it me :|. i used to put it in mothers day cards and birthday cards to family. not xoxo though. just a load of x's and o's tbh.

Ive never seen XOXO on the internet or in letters.....I think some of you guys must live in some crazy land or something

XOXO is retarded, and people shouldn't use it.

I've never seen XOXO before...

I think just putting 'xxx' at the end of a message is pretty stupid anyway. All my friends do it, and it's just annoying. I mean, you don't go around kissing everyone when you go in 'real life' do you? Jeez

Yeah, but that doesn't make it any less annoying

ive never seen XOXO on the interweb before, i've only seen it in letters and notes and such, handwritten(yeah, i know its oldschool). didnt think it was that weird, but i guess people from other cultures probably owuldnt know what it meant.

BTW: crushenator, japanese people have multisyllable names....hi|ro|no|bu sa|ka|gu|chi. you would be better off looking for a chinese person named ping pong.

fine, will change it :p. i still think its funny though.

It's not netspeak, my mom says it, way back when it was invented. xoxoxoxo.

I've known it meant hugs and kisses for a long time. I just didn't know why for...But that was explained.

On the topic of symbols whose meanings have been warped over time, why is the heart in the shape it is in? it's gotta have some kinda crazy origin story.

:O The reason why it is X's and O's is because the X's, if you look at it for a while with an imagination you'll eventually see 2 people hugging, no that is a lie, but when you hug someone, the two of you bust a cross... and an X represents crossing.. The O is obviously to represent lips.

LMAO....it originated in Europe mate... ;) Don't blame everything on the US. :D

And what`s the meaning of:

<3 XOXO

It`s a painted heart and aside from this is a written XOXO... I`ve got it from an american boy...

XOXO is a technique AIM Whores will pull on you to think they love you, the X's stand for kisses and the O's for hugs. In reality, they don't.

Hey, the kid hadta hear it from someone sooner or later.

I didn't know what xoxo meant :p

Internet abbreviations aren't that bad. "lol" is like being polite, if someone says something funny irl you laugh out loud. You know you've hit rock bottom when you start litterally saying "laugh out loud (lol)" after a joke irl..which i've done

Though i do prefer to talk (type...) normal on forums, only ingame and on my phone texting do i speak like a nougart. A bit like this on my phone in general "hiya, how r u?wana go out 4 a drink l8r?gr8!xx" or whatever, because i never understood how predictive texting worked :|

I <3 XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOOXOXO XOXOOXPQWEIOASIDASI this thread being bumped.

This thread is really old isn't it? I thought I recognised it when I checked the first page, with me posting in it and all.
