What the hell is Race X?

The aliens that were only in Opposing Force.. Shocktroopers, yellow spike shooting thingie, that boss etc. They are apparently some kind of enemy race to the Xen-aliens.

Its the unknown race that shows up at BM just after Gordon leaves for Xen in Oppossing Force.

The aliens in Opposing Force that werent in HL1. They were the enemies to the xen aliens.

They fought in the game, and I think it was talked about in the game, anyone play it recently enough to confirm or deny this?

it isnt mentioned anywhere in the game that they are separate from the xen aliens. the only similarity to this is when a 'kliener' says 'i have never seen this species before.'

Hang on for a sec. Surely the entire community isn't basing the belief that they are enemies of Xen just because kliener says "I've never seen that species before". That can't be right.

there were aliens in HL1 fighting each other to

no they are not baseing it on that, they fight each other in the game as I recall, thus not very friendly relationships betweem racex and xen

Some shock troopers open fire on a gargantua.

No-one knows anything about Race X, but I'm pretty sure that they are also from Xen.

In addition they don't seem to follow any of the traits of the other Xenians.

Bullsquids seem to fight anything, including other xenians, but i'll admit they don't seem to be intelligent.

Yeah, I remember that now. Still doesn't seem enough for me to assume they were from different species... but the evidence does build up. Did valve actually refer to them as 'race x' or is that a fan name?

They aren't called Race X in the game, but maybe that's what they were dubbed in previews?

Baby shock troopers were captured during one of the Black Mesa survey trips, so that's why I think that they are also from Xen.
Maybe the opposite end of the planet though.

They just came to get their kin back IMHO...

So we probably won't see them again... :'(

They did kidnap a couple of scientists though, i'd like to see freeman mount a daring rescue... :D

Thats got me thinking. Valve has said that freeman definately won't be visiting Xen in HL2. You thinking what im thinking?

Hmmm jabberwock95...... maybe i am, Race X arent from Xen but from Yen or something.... then youll be visiting Yen....

Visiting Race X planet would be fun...

Another point about them being seperate from the Xen aliens - none of them have the 3rd limb coming from their chests, but Slaves, Grunts and Controllers do.

Some people think Race-X somehow forms the Combine, but afaik the only evidence that supports that is that Vortigaunts don't like either of them.

Im more interested in what the new "RG-88" is that barney mentions before the alien teleports in lol, although the scientist mentions his friend briefly before the attack so, maybe his friend is the scientist who drops the Transporter Gun later on! rofl... sorry just random useless speculation

What's this? I've not heard that before.

Guard: Have you seen the new IG-88?
Scientist: No I haven’t, but a friend of mine...

I think by Race X they mean that it is a racing game on some alien planet with futuristic tech. Race X is just some undefinedname

Yes, I see what you are hinting at and all, but I think you are reading to much into that. I think valve knows that Xen was a low point for a lot of players, and after playing through the game again recently, I think that section was a little long, and kinda odd in a lot of ways. They don't want to make that mistake again, and the story will be more structured this time around. The last time you basically get to the lambda reactor and then suddenly, 'oh by the way, there is a big alien being you need to go kill', and everything changes, all the player experience from before is left kinda behind.

I also think there was a quote where Gabe says something like 'its all on earth, in and around city 17, although we do bring some parts of xen there' (which I would assume means like the few places in opFor where there were Xen textures and plants and such)

It has been stated that you do not leave earth in HL2. I think that pretty much eliminates "Planet Yen" or "the RaceX planet". Dunno where this was, probably in the Info From Valve thread.

No, it's a droid from Star Wars, It's an easter egg in Op4...

Really? Where's it hidden?

Valve did say that we will see familiar places. I sorta hope that the no-Xen statement is a trick, because I actually liked Xen. the only thing wrong with it was that it was too ambitious for the technology of the time.

You people need to know your Half Life facts.

There is another world within the Xen nebula that Black Mesa’s survey teams never explored, and in fact barely discovered. This world is similar in many respects to Xen in that it is also a field of asteroid-like organic masses, and it shares many of the same life forms, indicating past contact with the Xen world. It is quite possible that the asteroids of both Xen and this other world are all fragments from one planet-sized organism, which have become separated into two separate orbiting clusters over the course of millennia. The unexplored world has several unique species of plant and animal life, however, including a separate sentient species. It is believed that this asteroid field possesses a far smaller amount of the anomalous crystalline material to Xen and therefore displacement fields from humanity’s teleportation experiments were never attracted to it. It has also been speculated, however, that the beings of this world purposely generate some sort of dampening field to shield themselves from unwanted visitors. During the Lambda Incident hostilities were observed between the Xen forces and those from this other world; it is possible that the two worlds are natural enemies, and this would explain the purpose of the Xen warrior caste before the aliens considered humanity to be a threat.

The life forms of this other world share many similarities in biochemistry with the Xen aliens, including purified quantities of the displacement crystal material within their metabolism, and therefore on several occasions Black Mesa’s displacement beacon experiments acquired specimens of these beings. The scientists were excited by the discovery of these new species but could only theorise as to their source of origin. The displacement beacon was only ever able to capture infants of these species, perhaps because the adults have a sufficient control over their natural displacement field to prevent their involuntary teleportation. The adult creatures were first encountered by humanity during the Lambda Incident – it is believed that they detected the dimensional breach that formed in the Xen asteroid field, and projected their own displacement fields through the rift. On the second day of the disaster the creatures started to materialise in the Black Mesa facility, voluntarily teleporting through the rift in order to invade the Earth.

The home of these aliens seems to be a far greener world than Xen; it has photosynthesising plant life, and therefore it is assumed that it receive a greater amount of light than Xen. The infant specimens obtained using the displacement beacon possessed gills and were found to be amphibious; indications are that the home world possesses far greater quantities of water than Xen.

I've read the site that came from, and it isn't necessarily fact - although it does make sense.
First of all it also contains references to some Govt. Organisation outside the BMRF which exists only for the purpose of the site's Mod.
Secondly it talks about the G-man being the administrator, which we now know is not true.

Here you go...

Weren't IG-88 that assassin robot from Star Wars? It's name was never mentioned in those movies, but many SW games and books has IG-88 in it...

EDIT: Shit, I red that eeggs.com thing AFTER I posted this, honestly. I'm a huge fan of star wars so I knew that already
