Well,VALVe have changed their logo to this:

Which one do you prefer?
 
it's their branding image it's not really their logo; this is:

I dont get the significance of the fat guy. why is he fat? and whiy is the valve on the back of his head? as logos go it's pretty crappy. the original is better (in terms of marketing) because the association with valve and the mind's eye is obvious. not so with the newest one
 
uh it's not really new, it's been on their official site since like 98
 
The white guy, the black one looks like he's in a prison cell or something.
 
They should use some hot chick with valve as a new graphic.
 
the new one makes me think of morpheus, and it's more aesthetically pleasing. I think it might have something to do with morpheus actually, considering that the valve is on the back of the head right where the plug would be.
 
The one that was in the goldsource games always reminded me it was freeman time. They're both good, but you can let yourself believe the other guy is squatting on the can.
 
Change it to Gabe with a valve on his stomach so they can regulate how much he eats.

I just have fond memories of the original from when I played Half-Life mods like Natural-Selection and Firearms all day. The new one does quite well for me, too.

I say do a new one with a woman, I'd like to see how that pans out.
 
I'd say the new one. I think what Valve wanted to do - the valve on the back of the head is for 'cranking up' creativity, which obviously is Valve's nature.
 
I prefer the older one, as it just.and I know this sounds stupid..symbolises Valve more than the new one for me.

Simply because it was their first logo, so will always give me flashbacks of playing Half Life, the first FPS I fell in love with.

Sort of like a..sentimental value or something.

To be honest I tend to skip the intro videos anyway in games these days. I dont really take notice of the new logos or developer clips, like Ubisoft changed theres for example, a different 'shwooshing' effect, which I see the start of and I just think 'yes I know its developed by x company' and just mash the buttons on the controller or sit there hitting esc until the game's menu appears.
 
I had never seen that opening before.

When was that used?
 
I'm glad they used a new one - it set the scene for you to know you were in for a new game dynamic than was available in the previous engine. Favorite? Second one. The first one just seemed like, "hey, a guy with a valve in his eye - valve, get it?" The second one just seemed darker. Seriously though: -novid.
 
I think I prefer the old one. Kinda looks like freeman.

The old one is epic, the new one is stupid.

I like the original. It looks aged, like that guy was important, and did something revolutionary. I don't know who he is, should I? He looks sort of foreign and mysterious, like he was a great leader. It's really symbolic to me; I'll never forget it.

But the new one is forgettable. Hate it; in fact I liked the original so much that I'm disappointed they changed it in the first place.

You don't mess with the things that got you where you are. If things start slipping, then you look at changes to make. This is the reason that old fashioned fonts from the 1900's still work - brand recognition.

Well, that's just my opinion, but it doesn't really matter I guess.
 
They're both old, Virus. They were made at I'm guessing the same time.
 
Was the original present when HL2 was launched?

Think that's where I first remember seeing that one.

Not surprising most people here prefer it to the new one. Classic.

Agreed though, this seems like a trivial thread.

Though it reminds me of the pre-hl2 days where we would analyze and discuss every bit of information or media we could get our paws on.

Also, I like the old one. It would always give me the jibblies when I'd start up their new game for the first time. It was a "holy shit, this is gonna rock" moment.
 
I prefer the old one, cus it reminds me of the orginal HL when I was little, when I still found 'stop cocks' funny and realised that the guy had on in his eye.

O those were the days.

I actually lol'd the first time I saw the second one, I thought it was some kind of joke. Its not got the seriousness of the original.

In some presentations and workshops, it was used for to showcase the GoldSrc engine abilities.
