If you could make the soundtrack for HL2, what songs would you select?

Or, what do you already listen to while playing HL1, mods, etc.?

Here's my personal list:

Propellerheads - Spybreak!
Deftones - My Own Summer (Shove It)
Rage Against the Machine - Wake Up
Rage Against the Machine - Calm Like A Bomb
Rob Zombie - Dragula
Rob Zombie - Scum of the Earth
Rob Zombie - Superbeast

I think Rob Zombie would fit well in HL2.

I actually have these songs on a playlist in winamp. Its fun to listen to while playing CS.

Cue to the scene where Alyx meets Gordon...

"Right 'thurr" by Chingy :E

On a more serious note, maybe some Linkin Park b/c it goes more with the sci-fi theme what with all the techno in LP.

Or how bout "I like big butts and I can't deny....." Haha that would be pretty funny actually!

Or some slow porn music ROFL

But what I heard in one of the preview videos with the music sounded pretty good, HL1 soundtrack kicked ass. Does anybody know if it will be the same person making the music?

Baby got jack. J/p. I think that VALVe will never include music with words, b/c they want an experience that is "truly immersive". Also, I would say NineInchNails, but Doom 3 is going to have that! Have oyu heard than one.."I wanna $%@! you like an animal!"

I agree that Valve will most likely only use instrumental music. I think its meant to go along with the whole "immersive" thing too. The only people that should speak (sing!) should be characters in the game.

Still, its good music, and they can still use Spybreak!

Maybe CS:Source will come with a few tracks.

Nine Inch Nails would be my #1 for perfect ambiant music for the game

Sorry to say that, but Trent Reznor abandonned the project long ago and he brought all of his stuff with him... :(

That sounds a bit like a Matrix soundtrack, isn't it? ;)

Some guys are too much into metal and shit, that's not the music style that'd fit with HL2..

here's my list:

DJ Food - The Raven (in ravensholm of course, indoor slow areas)

A Forest Mighty Black - Rebirth (huge outdoor areas.. with futuristic buildings)

DJ Shadow - Midnight in a perfect world (midnight in city 17 obviously)

DJ Food - Freedom (outdoor area travelling, perhaps when youre riding the buggy)

Talvin Singh and DJ Loco - Traveller (vast outdoor areas, desert and old rusty stuff)

I think HL 2 should have a folder where you can copy mp3's into. Then in the game you could turn on a 'custom music' setting where the game played those songs instead of the ones included with the game. I think fallout tactics had a system like this.

nine inch nails would be cool, but i think a lot of stiff by rob dougan fits very well into the game.

Linkin Park
30 Seconds to Mars
Evanescence
Creed

That would sound awesome in Halflife 2.
Have you herad track 12 from Meteora? it was at the end of Matrix Reloaded called "session"-That would fit perfectly to the atmosphere.

1. Metroid Prime - 09 - Tallon Overworld
2. Wojciech Kilar - Love Remembered
3. Robert Miles - Full Moon
4. Mono - Life In Mono
5. a part from Paul Van Dyk & Judge Jules - Essential Mix - (6-16-2001)

err i got more but im gonna eat.

hmm.. a tune by Nine Inch Nails :)

which one? thats a harder question..

We're in this together - The Fragile
The Wretched - The Fragile
Into the void - The Fragile
Big man with a gun - Downward Spiral (especially this one :E )

anyway those are the ones that come to mind off the top of my head :)

im a nails fan, but for lack of cash at the time i never picked up the fragile. i should pick it up if i see it.
listening to the perfect drug right now.

God, I hate soundtrack threads. 99% of people don't have a clue about what makes a good sountrack. They think that throwing in random top 40 hits is enough for a good sountrack. Yes, I'm sure Half-Life's atmosphere would have increased tenfold if we would have heard "MOMMY MOMMY ITS NOT FAIR MOMMY" by Linking Krap every time there's an action scene. Not.

I dunno...I think the HL2 soundtrack fits well. I wouldn't put any of my own music in the game the first time around, because, well, it would suck my attention away and probably destroy the experience...

drowning pool - bodies ofcourse :p

Buttah, I'll stick to the ingame music. And after I've finished the game 10 times or so and I'm getting tired of the game music, I'll put something classic behind it. Or not. We'll see by then. That's prolly a decade away anyway ;)

hmm... maybe some riverdance? ;p

Bahh, you folks listen to some poor music, in my opinion. Stick on some Bon Jovi!
Then again, I'll probably stick to the music that ships with the game.

90% of whats been mentioned so far would not fit AT ALL with the game.....

I like most of the songs mentioned, and most of the bands. However, I don't think they'd fit with HL2...

I was thinking that Orgy - Pantomime might fit the City 17 feel, not too sure though...

I couldn't destroy my first few play throughs with other music, I will just take in what Valve has created for the game...

But maybe after a while I would experiment with some Eastern European country knee slapping tunes!! :D

What do they listen to in City 17 at the moment?

anything NIN, if NIN did a soundtrack to a game I would just die. (Quake's soundtrack by NIN was cool and ambiant, however a stronger NIN sound in a game would slay me)
I was ready to Die with Doom3, but it was merely a tease... and now instead John Carmack should die for screwing things up with Trent.

vive le NIN

let's face it, the only music games are really playable on is normal background music. Soundtracks from movies come the closest to being playable I guess, but even that...

I think the only good music to play on is the music that comes with the game, because it's made just for that. All other music is made for something else.

I do imagine, though, that it would be cool when you're just messing around, loading up an action packed part of the game just to kill some stuff, you could play something like... well, drowning pool - bodies on the background.
Killing combine while shouting LET THE BODIES HIT THE FLOOR would be awesome ^_^

Bleed American by Jimmy Eat World when fighting them ant lions on the beach (like E3 2K4 vid) b4 the crane..

Dustbrothers would be fitting

if anyone's seen fight club then they should know that the dust brothers did all the music in the film including the great intro, which would totally fit in with hl2

true most music wouldn't fit, but this is just for fun.

I can just imagine, the game starts with the same music as American Beauty
doo do doo do doooo on the xylophone ; D

I are a metal haxor. :E
so I would put in:
The Union Underground - South Texas Deathride,
Disturbed - The Game,
Godsmack - I Stand Alone,
Hatebreed - I Will Be Heard,
Slipknot - Wait And Bleed

oh and the Drowning Pool - Bodies. :naughty:
( and I thought I was teh only one on these forums,to listen metal  )

I'm a death-metal-head, so I'd put in

Dimmu Borgir - Kings of the Carnival Creation
Dimmu Borgir - Puritania
Something form The Berzerker
In Flames - the Jester Race
Meshuggah - Future Breed Machine
Dying Fetus - Schematics
And some stuff from my own band [SoniMinoS] http://soniminos.netfirms.com
^^HAHA, Shameless Self Promotion, gotta love it^^

I'll listen to some Nirvana while playing thru the second time...

If theres a sad ending Nirvana-Something in the way wuldnt be bad lol, but thats coming from a nirvana junkie...

I could make a list a mile long but I will just list the names of the bands: Dimmu Borgir, Fear Factory, KMFDM, Meshuggah, Mushroomhead, Static-X, Tool, and maybe some Rammstein.

Heh. I don't meet many people that have heard of Dimmu Borgir, let alone listen to them. Its nice to meet another Black/Death Metal Fan.

Anything from the artist formally known as Prince and in particular the soundtrack from the motion picture Purple Rain. :E
