What would you put in the HL2 soundtrack?

So much diversity. . .

My suggestion still is the best.

I are a metal haxor. :E
so I would put in:
The Union Underground - South Texas Deathride,
Disturbed - The Game,
Godsmack - I Stand Alone,
Hatebreed - I Will Be Heard,
Slipknot - Wait And Bleed

oh and the Drowning Pool - Bodies. :naughty:
( and I thought I was teh only one on these forums,to listen metal  )
none would fit. at all.

None of those bands are real metal. :)

I would love to hear Devin Townsend try his hand at writing the soundtrack. Too bad we're being deprived of his work on Fallout 3 now. That game is still cancelled isn't it?

its a 'what are your favorite band's thread' in disguise, ahh!

its a 'what are your favorite band's thread' in disguise, ahh!

...I was hoping people wouldn't steer it in that direction.

And besides, its something original unlike most of the threads that have been posted recently.

And to those of you who mentioned Dust Brothers, how could I have forgotten them!

i can't imagine any of my favorite rock bands having part of the soundtrack in hl2.

BUT it would be awesome if danny elfman made a soundtrack for it. all his stuff just rocks. and he could create a good mood for hl2

At least the songs i posted all have a techno kinda feel to em, driving beat, grinding guitars, good for fraggin.

Broken Upper Hand- by Demon Hunter will get adrenaline flowing in nearly anyone. :D

But seriously, Celine Dion is almost definitely the most likely to be featured. :p

professional ambient music. the type like NIN did for quake1 and how hl1 had it. both amazing.

anything else and its pretty lame and too child oriented if rock.

I will admit that Danny Elman kicks John Williams ass when it comes to writing movie soundtracks. I would love for him to write a soundtrack for any game, maybe even the HL2 movie (lol).

The only problem there would be that Elfman's music has accompanied some comedies, e.g. The Simpsons, Beetlejuice, Pee-Wee's Playhouse, Mars attacks, etc., Although I really enjoy what he accomplished with Tim Burton. I wonder if he'll do the score for Burton's "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" remake.

lets hope he does. all his burton stuff is amazing.

You can't deny that Static-X, Dimmu Borgir, and KMFDM would fit (well those of you that have heard them anyway). Dimmu Borgir (some of the songs) kind of makes you think of Nazis in a way so that would fit with the combine and City 17 in general, Static-X would be good for the action, and KMFDM has a very strong techno feel. KMFDM would be a good mood setter for a good part of the game. I threw in the others because they could fit into the game in diferent parts so you don't get tired of listening to just 3 bands. Besides I will probably play through the game a few times before ading any music.

Rob Dougan has some great ambiant sounding stuff, but its on the calmer side.
Peter Gabriel - Signal To Noise (the remix from "Gangs of New York" no vocals)

psha! - you know nothing of metal!

not sure if this is the same thread we had about the soundtrack back before hl2n went down a while back, but i'll go ahead and post again just in case...

this is a sciFi game - you totally need a more industrail/ebm score: like skinny puppy, vnv, wumpscut, suicide comando, etc...these are alot more like the stuf they're actually writing for the game, but a little darker and heavier; still more in keeping with the sciFi overall theme...

now if you want a game to play your metal to, play painkiller! - the soundtrack that ships with it for the fight scenes is just plain embarasing! luckily they left all the music files open in mp3 format so you can simply re-name your favorite metal tracks and stick them in for any level you want... to that game i added my own sountrack of stuf like: dark funeral, emperor, morbid angel, MDB, CoF etc...improved gameplay 666% ...

Kelly Bailey's work is just perfect for HL2!

Anyway, LP: Numb, and The Rasmus: First Day of My Life for the buggy rides! :)

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000384/ < He is :) I noticed he did the theme song for Fable, and a song for Kingdom Hearts (doh makes sense - Nightmare Before Christmas), so it could be a reality :)

Static-X - All In Wait
Static-X - Cold
Static-X - Kill your idols
The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army
Dimmu Borgir - Hybrid Stigmata
Dimmu Borgir - Eradication Instincts Defined
Dimmu Borgir - Succubus in Rapture
Dimmu Borgir - Allegiance
Dimmu Borgir - The Night Masquerade
Dimmu Borgir - Leepers Among Us

Not that those songs fit in with HL2...they just plain rock

This thread is becoming a songwhoring thread where your favourite songs become shamelessy promoted by you, sort of..

And like I said, some people has so much metal shit stuffed in their brains they can't think of any other genre, let alone a song that ISN'T metal..

I dont know what would fit HL2's soundtrack to be honest.

but im pretty creative when it comes to thinking of great music for a specific scene:

Striders video:

Whilst you are slowly and calmly walking about you start hearing Muse's Hysteria song...

and just as the wall blows up and the guys come running towards you the Drum part starts.

Mix the rest of the video with action shots from the other binks and voila.

Dear god there are a lot of malformed music tastes here. I mean, Linkin Park? If this were an Electronic Arts game ie (UG UG LOOK GOOD BUT SHIT GAMEPLAY!) {There are exceptions} then you could be forgiven for that.

HL2 calls for something different from the cliched Nu-Metal pap that's passed off as something for pre-teens and morons to listen to. Instead, the mp3s I'd be playing would consist of a number of bands that actually have a decent atmospheric sound to them whilst maintaining the rock in reasonable doses.

so:

Mogwai
Cave In
Isis
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Intentions of an Asteroid
Sigur Ros
Boards of Canada
Hope of the States
Tortoise
The Fall
Fugazi
At the Drive In

You, sir, have a magnificent music taste.

Especially Boards of Canada and Mogwai would be great for this kind of music!

I fully support Linkin park, great lyrics, support "warez" mp3 sites ie. Kazaa edonkey etc....

plus they dont feel the need to talk BS. about the Goverment and swear every 5 seconds to sell a record.

Just a pitty that the lead singers gonna be f*cked after the next album cos the notes he sings are cuasing his lungs to screw up and hes had surgery a few times in the last couple years.

Don't you understand? A band that actually sells stuff isn't cool anymore in non-conformist land. A band that sold more than one record is commercial and a boyband. Calling Linkin Park commercial crap is so totally a sign of being an unique individual, just like all the million other goth kids that do it too...
When you like Linkin Park, you're someone who likes Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys, cause you're not a cool "individual" anymore that hates LP...

I must admit, Meteora wasn't very good, but I can't stand these elitists metalheads that hate everything with more than one follower. :x

I'll be playing the game first with normal music, then I'll play with Judas Priest on :D

How abute some Wendy Carlos eh?
*receiving blank stares*
tron and, more importantly, clockwork orange arrangements.
still not quite fitting, but getting there.

Or the MYST guys! how abute them?

They should just slap the Kill Bill soundtrack on to it. Especially the 'woohoo' song.

If the idiot could sing properly and not have to resort that ****ing nasal whine then he wouldn't be in this mess. Besides, Chester Bennington's range is utter shit...for a male singer he's average at best.

Jeff Buckley pisses all over him vocally.

psychedelic trance, acid techno... maybe they could get like the chemical brothers to do some of the songs, that would be excellent :rolling:

And the award for the most naive post goes to...you.

Clearly you have a considerably poor grasp of the music industry, I'm no elitist metalhead, but I'd consider Linkin Park to be "Commercial Crap". Calling them under the banner of Alternative music is an insult to all those bands who've worked considerably harder and are have greater ranging musical ability who don't get the chance that Linkin Park have been handed.

I could point out all that's wrong with them, but I could be here all day.

The first few times I played through HL1, I did so without music, and I really do think the experience was better for it initially. In the last year or so, though, since I've played through it so many times, I've done quite a bit of playing the game to Radiohead albums, in particular Kid A and Amnesiac. Provided you already like the music, it goes with it quite well, but I certainly wouldn't put any songs in the HL2 soundtrack. Like HL1, the first few times are going to be done without music, which in my oppinion can make the experience much more tense.

Halfe-Life needs some AC/DC... hell yeah! Greatest rock band ever IMO

If I would make the Soundtrack I would get Massive Attack to make the OST, no vocal schizzle

I'd put on some Goldie, LTJ Bukem or Dom and Roland!

radiohead is a cool band and i could easily see some of their stuff fitting into the game.
Edit: also like the massive attack idea.

I like the kind of music they put in HL2's 2004 trailer. Chemical Brothers and techno like someone said before could also work
