Where'd you dig that up exactly and is it CONFIRMED that this is the Megatron we'll see in the movie?

Because the Japanese had their own Transformers line for a while too and they looked a lot different.
 
that cant be official, u can tell from the trailer that the robot is kinda boxy, not rounded endges or anything like that, why would one be like that and then have one like that picture. no way
 
As much as I loathe Michael Bay, I don't think that's official art.
Reason: how are they going to turn that into a transforming action figure for the kids to buy?

Edit: Ah, so apparently the story is megatron refuses to take up an earth vehicle mode in the movie, and this is his original cybertron form.
He turns into some kind of alien space jet, hence why he's all weird and angle-ey.

I completely don't understand this Transformers crap. It's just a shitty cartoon. I guess the toys are entertaining for children, but that's it. So what if Michael Bay "screws it up"? It's a ****ing Transformers movie.

I'm kinda in the same boat
I think it's just a bandwagon and something "cool" for people. Hell, even people who've never seen it, "OMG TRANSFORMERS ROCKS!"

Oh well.
 
If you weren't a kid during the transformers era I don't expect you to be able to understand.

It's quite possibly one of the greatest stories ever told, and for most of us, one of the best Saturday morning cartoon shows we ever saw back in the 80s before TMNT came along.

The gun mode was silly, but if I only pointed out how badass the tank was, fanboys everywhere would correct me and be like "hez a gun first, n00ob!"

A lot of aspects of transformers were cheesy, but even more were cool. What people were looking forward to with this movie was to keep the same spirit while improving the elements that didn't work.

Instead, they are making it just as cheesy, but grafted onto an "X-Treme" style that's completely out of place.

It's like how people keep making awful videogame movies.
It gives everyone who likes games a bad name.

It is indeed a good design. It's totally successful as a toy for 12 year olds, let's not kid ourselves. 12-year-old me would've killed for that action figure.
The problem is that it is not any better than the original.

The original transformers was basically a 22-minute toy commercial. We shouldn't get too nostalgic.
But at the same time, there shouldn't be anything stopping this movie from being good for adults too. Pixar (and, to a lesser extent, the Beast Wars show) taught us that much.

So people were hoping for Tim Burton Batman, or even Batman Begins. But what we're getting is probably going to be Batman Forever or maybe even Batman & Robin.
 
I never was into the Transformers thing, but I know what he looked like and thats not even close.

If it was a completely original character... It would be mother****ing badass, and I do still think it is an awesome design and cant wait to see it in motion. But its just not megatron.
 
But it doesn't have to be. It just has to be a good character, and a good movie with original ideas. If they were just blithely copying everything from the cartoon, then I'd be worried.
 
I liked him a lot as Galvatron when he turned into that cool cannon and just obliterated Starscream for taking over :D

EDIT: I hardly think it's a bandwagon thing. At least it isn't anything close to that for me. I've had the toys since I was little. I even had a G1 Optimus Prime worth hundreds of dollars today...too bad I played the shit out of that toy and it's gone now.

the transformers I saw when I was a kid trnasformed in animals

and I liked then,I wonder how is the original one
 
After watching Beast Wars first, it's harder for me to start watching the original series. I caught most of the Transformers Movie on TV once, but I found it kind of confusing having never seen the TV episodes.

Watching the TV show is something I plan to do...eventually.

transformers were sub-par ameri-anime lite ..it was mostly a 30 minute commercial thinly disguised as a children's action show ..it was just so mediocre that I'm surprised there's such a big following


this new incarnation looks 1000X worse:

Studio CEO: "let's cash in on yet another marketing/television property but let's make it extreme for the new generation of fans to get addicted to"

Studio lackey: "but sir it was crap back then"

Studio CEO: "yes but it's nostaligia crap ..btw you're fired"
