i agree demo, i cant think of a single fps with a story as ambitious as hl2. and i bet we dont even know the half of it :D

How anyone will go through the game skipping past the announcements on TV and around City 17 is beyond me. Max Payne 2 wouldn't have been the same without Captain Baseball Bat Boy.

Great job decoding. I wonder if Valve expected people to take this stuff from the Binks?

I doubt the combine are actually working towards the immortality of the humans in City-17. It is probably just a false hope kept alive by Breen to keep the humans in check.
 
yeah, thats right. i always assumed they where aliens, anyway.
it would be kind of boring and not half-lifesh if they turned out to be some sort of human organization. no man would have concieved the idea of a flying attack manatee...
 
It would appear that HL2 has drawn heavily from both "1984" and "Brave New World" - what better sources of inspiration could we ask for? :)

I asure you, there are kids. They have stopped them breeding, that just stops anymore humans bieng produced. This also opens the immortality theory up, Breen may beleive there is no need for more children when there is immortality that awaits.

No matter how correct you think your theory is andy, there are going to be kids! they dont just disappear because of a supressiosn field!

But how long has city 17 been under the influence of this field? If Gordon has been under for 10 years that makes most kids adults. And what's the point of bringing in more? What purpose do they serve?

If this really is a dark conspiracy it will make more sense to have the forces of evil trying to bring down the human race from within (false hopes about imortality while restricting thier breeding) it makes no sense to have this field and then allow kids anyway. If anything, children would have been taken away (=more productive workers?)
 
yes, the current children will most likley be taken away to be stuck in factories or something.

son of a damnit.... Valve stole my storyline..... I was writing a story about the U.S. in 2065 and how it was so overpopulated that the government ended up making vesectomies mandatory for all but the filthy rich and government officials. It goes more in depth but the point is my story must have been leaked!!!! IM SUEING!!!!
 
I'm sure that this isn't the main plot line. Rather just part of the ongoing suppression, manipulation and eradification of human life (for the better good or with alterior motive?) present throughout the whole HL2 game.

i agree. i bet there will be plenty of creepy stuff like this. it is very cool though. i cant wait to find out more about the story.

It's logical! You remember the couple in the next room? "What are we going to do? -We'll think of something." This must be in some connection with suppressing natality. For example, if they got pregnant she would have to make an abortion (or the Combine would make her do one)! That's why they are probably concerned with! Man, this is sick...

avoiding the question. hes not because we do know. im saying a real combine(dressing up like a woman does not make you a woman)that used to do horrible things to people maybe gets a conscience and helps, but still sounds like a combine. thats what im talking about

The combine - for all we know, could be humans. I was merely suggesting that barney - even if he is disguised - is a combine who is a friend. :D

Well, we know the combine themselves are aliens because Gabe sid they were...but the combine soldiers and metrocops could be human for all we know, and the actual aliens could be higher up powers. :) We'll just have to wait and see.
 
ok. i just would like to hear a combine with their cool radio chatter say something compassionate maybe, like that they aren't all evil, or it would bea cool scene if a combine is about to strike a woman with one of those shock sticks, and then another combine feels bad and grabs his arm before he swings. i dunno, i like to think that some of the combine have consciences :)

I guess my dreams of using infants as a manipulator 'ammo' are shattered now :/
 
Well the "Combine" is a group of things -- the gunships, striders, and other assorted creatures we haven't seen. The combine soldiers / metrocops might be a part of the combine but either human with cybernetic enhancement or just human with special equipment.

If you watch the Barricade video, Barney is wearing a combine uniform. Perhaps he defecting or undercover or he just really likes combine uniforms.

Gamespy had a recording of the E3 2003 presentation, and Gabe said during the Strider video that the combine are an alien race.
 
Barney will just be working undercover i presume, the resistance would need a man on the inside...
