this is my first time playing a game, someone please help!!! someone please gimme the site to register the cd key? i have no idea where to go to register!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaihsrakjdhasjkh

Make a steam account, it should ask for a cd key in the process type it there.
If it dosn't ask then do this:
On the main steam menu click browse games;
Activate Production I already own;

Click Next -> Scroll the bottom, click I agree, click Next, type in cd key.

There you go.

that is where i am right now, but the cd key provided on my booklet doesn't seem to work when i type it in, an error comes up saykng it can't find it. im thinking maybe you need to register it first? like on its site or something? for half life to verify it? cus i've been googling this problem and this site said (not half life 2 offical site) said i should register it first cus steam needs to verify it. but the person didn't post WHERE i should verify it, they didn't give me the link.

The cd-key should be 25 characters, NO MORE. Where the CD key is printed on the CD sleeve, there is some other stuff on there too, DON'T ENTER IT. It should be exactly 25 characters, in 5 groups, with dashes between the groups. Like this:

11111-22222-33333-44444-55555

check over that u didnt make any mistakes a couple of times

hi everyone!
thanks for the tips, i've got it now.

now i have another problem, it says my (unspported video card) video hardware doesn't meet the minimum requirements set for the game.

and then it tells me my driver details are:

windows 2000 (but im acutally xp?)
SIS 300/305/630/540/730
VERSION: 5.13.1.1100

none of those numbers make sense to me!!! can someone help me pelase?

Well, what video card do you have?

And if you don't have one, then no game for you.

what's a video card?:rolling:

sorry..dont know much about these stuff..:o

how do i find out if i have one or not? like should i go check hte control panel? or..um, what functions does it have? i think i have one though but its just not updated cus the error says that even if i choose to contiue to run the game anyway, i would have problems with stability or performance in the game. i dont want that. so im kinda wondering how i could update it if i could? like download something? buy a software? (but if i have to like actually PUT IN some hardware in there, then i'll just play the damn game without it)

oh. and i ..HAVEE to pla the game!!!!!!!! my computer was bought in 2001, so maybe it should have it?

problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go to: Start (the thingy in the left under place), then Run, then input dxdiag.

Copy everything there (ctrl+c) and post it here.

edit: My advice: Get a new computer. Nothing can run with a 2001 comp.

Well sorry, but it looks like your com isn't fast enough to run HL2.

Sigh...... omgoooooooood, no offense at all, but I think you might want to stick to console games. HL2 will be coming to Xbox quite soon.

To play HL2 or in fact any recent game on your computer, you'll need to buy and install a new graphics card. But to be honest if you didn't realise that, it might be beyond you. Also, if your computer hasn't been upgraded since 2001, chanced are the rest of the system won't be up to scratch for any modern games.

Man, have you seen the low model quality of the Xbox version? It really blows >=(

If you want to play HL2 to its fullest, sell your house and buy an Alienware PC with the accumulated cash.

p.s.: im just sixteeen i can't acutally sell a house..hahha for a game!!1

He has a SiS intergrated graphics card.
what does that mean?
what am i acutally suppose to have to play the game then?
so all i need is a graphics card?
so without out one, the game won't come out?

well from the look of the dxdiag u have 128mb which u will not be able to run hl2
well plus teh intigrated is sharing 32mb and it looks like u have no agp slot u better off with saving for a new pc but the only thing u can do is buy a 512mb stick of ram and a geforce fx 5200 pci.

im not really 100% sure if u have a agp slot or not

hi, what's an agp slot? and what does it do? if i upgrade my computer, i want the updates to last very long so i won't have to update again like next year or something when they come out with new games. and why is it that my computer's only 128mb? isn't that the amount of memory that only stores like 30 songs on a mp3 player? i thought my computer waslike a 20gb or 40gb thing. and what's ram? also, could you include a list of EVERYTHING that i should upgrade? and do you know the estimate for the total amount that i'd have to spend for the upgrade? if it's over my budget, i'll just save up and buy a new computer.

Harddrive space is like a cabnet. It stores stuff. RAM is like your countertop or desktop space, a place to put things in use. Anything that is loaded right now is in RAM. Have a song playing? It's loaded in RAM. Playing a game or have a word document open? It's in RAM and will be cleared out when you close out of the program or file.

will this laptop last long enough for like..five more years for future games?
No system can last that long without being upgraded if you plan to play the newer games. There are a few major changes coming down the pipe that will make anything hard to be compatibile with the new stuff even 2-3 years down the road.

i agree with everything u said

hi asus! man i wish u were my computer teacher. ur explanation of those stuff made it so easy to understand!!!!! so okay, since i shouldn't expect long life expectancy even if i buy new laptop or pc. then now im thinking of JUST upgrading. cus what's the point if i buy a new computer! its gonna wear out! why dont i just buy the stuff and keep my old pc shell, so as soon as it can no longer play the games, i'll upgrade again, so i won't pay double the money! furthermore, what else od you think i should upgrade besides the video card? would i have to upgrade ram? since the games gonna take up a lot? is my memory enough then? what is my memory? is it 20gb?

or is it JUSTTT 128mb???!!!!!

and, what's the ags thingy?

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10029053&catid=
should i buy something like that? or should i go with a higher price like this:
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10045995&catid=

so i can make my pc last longer before upgrading again after a year? so like it'll last for at least 2 or 3 years?

and then what else should i think about next after buying a good video card?

and then comes the problem..how the heck am i gonna locate the position to put these stuff in my pc!..but nvm that first, what else should i need to make my computer up to date?

shoudl i go to staples to upgrade the memory to average today's computer storage of 250 gb along the way?

can harddrive space also be called memory?

If you don't want people to get confused with what you are talking about then no.
RAM = Random Access Memory

hey giant

so i'll have to upgrade again after 1 year? do you think ni should buy a new computer or just upgrade?

That card uses an AGP slot. Do you have an AGP slot?
You could get a PCI card for around 60$ and it would get HL2 to run with low details. Although HL2 would not be smooth on your system even if you upgraded your system memory. Personally, I would buy a new computer that is upgradable.

-Has either an AGP slot or 16x PCI-Express slot (Not just PCI)
-Has at least 512MB memory
-3GHz CPU or higher (no Intel Celerons)

I also recommend getting a new computer or getting the XBox version when it comes out. It will save you a lot of trouble. :)
