I know but it might be the cheapest and easiest solution given the circumstances.

Omgooooood, try to listen to this and understand it:

First of all, it would be easier for other people to reply to you if you used proper spelling and punctuation. No offense, but that just makes it easier to talk to you.

Second... as you already know now, your computer is old. The simple truth is that things become outdated extremely quickly in the computing world. Back in spring 2000, I bought a state of the art computer. If I still had it, I would not be able to run any new games on it. So nothing you can buy will last 5 years without upgrades.

Video cards - there are the "integrated" ones and the "real" ones. The real ones are separate microschemes that you put into slots in your computer. They have much more memory and functionality than the integrated cards. Integrated cards will not run any modern game - and yes, it's possible to buy a new computer with an integrated card that still wouldn't run Half-Life 2.

You haven't given us the exact specifics of your computer, but if it was bought in 2001, chances are that no part of is good enough to run HL2. To recap, the four essential components, for our purposes are:

Processor, also known as CPU - that's what is, say, Pentium IV 2.6 GHz. The bigger the number the better, and any new one you might get now would be decent.
Hard drive, HDD - this has storage space measured in gigabytes (GB), your hard drive might be from 10 to 20 GB, I would assume. New ones you'd buy are at least 80 now.
RAM (Random access memory), this is usually what is meant by just "memory" - the memory where the computer keeps information it needs currently, such as opened programs, files, etc. Currently, the three most common amounts of RAM are 256 MB, 512 MB or 1 GB. Memory is pretty cheap nowadays.
Video card - as said above, you'd need a real one, not integrated. The two main companies are ATI and nVidia, ATI have names like Radeon 9800 or x800, nVidia have GeForce FX 5700, GeForce 6800 GT, etc.

If you want to play Half-Life 2, you basically need a new computer. A new computer bought now will have decent CPU, hard drive and RAM, but cheaper comps may be sold with integrated cards, so you have to be sure you're not getting one.

Hope that helps.

Also, try to have at least 512 MB RAM, and if you can, get 1024 MB .
