What's Your Degree ?

I have a Bachelor's in Film and Television Production and an Advanced Diploma in Screen Production. I aim to be a writer/director but I'm also contemplating taking an online course through AnimationMentor.com, as I've been teaching myself 3d animation over the past few years but have no desire to enlist in a course that teaches me the basics nor do I have the skills necessary to get a 3d animation/modelling or even compositing job.

Plant Science sounds cool. This may be a dumb question, but... do you get to work with actual living plants? Because that would be pretty awesome.

Yup. Mostly with a weed, Arabidopsis, which is a good model organism, but possibly with barley for my new project.

How am I not surprised in the least by this?

Nietzsche, much as I loathe him, did say "A friend should be a master at guessing and keeping still: you must not want to see everything."

Wish I could be arsed to go for that Philosophy minor, just don't have time. =/
Why do you loathe Nietzsche? I admire a lot of his work.

BA in History, minor in Russian literature. No career plans besides "not a working slave".

Bach. Arts at Monash Uni. Currently I'm unassigned for a Major but I will most likely choose English Literature with a minor in either Politics or Philosophy.

In the process of acquiring my Teaching, Law, and Literature (incorporating Creative Writing) degrees. I had always wanted to do Philosophy but I've been forced to make a sacrifice, unfortunately.

Took 2 years out in which I went to Oz and worked full time in recruitment. It was delightful (except of the working bit). But hey...at least I know how feeble degrees are in terms of securing employment after university!

Now in my 2nd year studying Forensic science with molecular biology. I love blood especially. This is also the only reason Pi tolerates me, since he wants to me 'see to' the lab results in a couple years...

I can't phrase my dislike of people working in recruitment without sounding like a total arsehole, but I will do you the service of pointing out that you seem at least 50,000% less bitter than the incompetent lemon-fisted ****wipes I've met. At best, degrees are only 'feeble' in employment because these people haven't a clue what they're doing. But then, since you're actually studying they didn't get to you... did they?

Software development and network engineering at sheridan college.

I used to go to Brock university for computer science but, that didn't work out and I ended up dropping out.

In my 2nd year now and in January I'm starting my first co op work term for 4 months at RIM (Research In Motion, people who made the Blackberry) for the position of Data Network Assistant.

I'm going to read as much as my CCNA certification guide as I can before my work term starts because there is A LOT to know.

I have a BA (hons) in History, and I'm presently considering an MSc in Corporate Finance, or an MBA

:)

It's a horrible industry driven by commission. It's obviously a sales environment and there was always this phrase: "We don't get people jobs, we fill vacancies". Kind of sums up how it's not really about you ever.

There is nothing wrong with getting a degree, I went back to university because I'm studying something I want to, and a degree is the bare minimum I require to even start in this direction. The only thing I was picking up on, is that getting a degree won't guarantee you a job in that field, or a good job by any means. Experience is obviously key (but hey, how do I get a job if I don't have experience...recruitment companies don't care...find a way yourself!), but it's also a lot to do with the individual. How clued in you seem to be, how sharp you are, how good you look aesthetically, your age. It shouldn't matter but it does...it's a harsh truth.

I left the job because it's a horrible industry and working a rubbish job sucks. So I'm still saying, do a degree and find something you do like. Even if you don't do an important degree at uni, it teaches you different ways to think and changes you as a person. Definitely for the better.

Criminal Justice and recently Computer Information Systems.

I'd love to do both but that would mean another 4 years and I don't know if I can handle that much

I have a BSc in Pharmacology and work in the pharmaceutical industry.

Applied Science :(
Wanting to go into Computer Forensics, however.

We need more students of natural philosophy. This is a Half-Life forum after all.

Bachelors in Information Tech specialising in Multimedia, got one sweeeet sweet year left.

And then it's time to go out and let THE MAN break my soul.

Computer Games Design at Staffordshire University. In my final year, one semester left!

After this I hope to get a job in the industry :D

BA in Media Studies, freelance journalism and podcasting.

Probably a physics degree, but there's a lot of time for me to mess around and decide.

CompTIA A+ and Net+ certifications in IT for now. Someday I'm going to get a Bachelors in computer science. Someday. Maybe.

Spatial Design & Interior Architecture, but I've moved over to working in Urban Design these days.

Computer Science with no minor or any of that other goodie-two-shoe BS.

Not very good marks either but I make a living on it now.

Environmental and Water Resources Engineering. Graduating next semester w/ my BS and will be working for the Army Corps of Engineers :). Absolutely no plans to go to grad school. Soooo tired of school.

haHAH! Well, as of a couple weeks ago, I was majoring in Creative Writing, planning on expanding into either Business, Acting, Film-making, International Affairs, Political Science, Economics, Language (Russian, Italian, French, Chinese, or Arabic), or going back into the sciences with Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics, eventually going into whatever engineering field I find interesting that week, leaning towards probably the nano-tech or biomedical fields. After that, I would have gone to either a Law or Medicine School for graduate work, both if I had the time and resources, Law first if that happened. After that I would have tried to find my way into human rights legislation work.

But now I'm joining the Marines. I ship out in January.

IIT: MFL studies everything in the world, even ass-kicking.

It's a curse more than a blessing.

I did start studying ass-kicking this semester however. I started fencing and began taesoodo (introductory martial art that leads into hwa rang do).

Can't be a student of it anymore though =(. Now I've gotta start into MCMAP and do it professionally. I can't wait for that part of training =).

Cool. I know a fellow grad student in Environmental Engineering who worked for the army for some time. I think she worked on how to quickly prepare sites for troops to live at as they moved into new areas. Missed a talk she gave but it sounded like really interesting work.

BBA Marketing

Bachelor's in Business Administration and associates in Computer Networking. I don't see any other business majors here...

Including Letters, that makes 3 of us...

:O

Currently studying Interactive Design (websites, video, graphics and such) and because this is boring as hell, I am finishing this so I can do Technical Management next :)
