You can check the total amount of time you've played (in hours) by viewing your last save. Underneath the screenshot, there should be a "time played:" message.

If you have more than one character, post your play-time for both

Lastly: Don't guess. Post your actual play-time.

Actual play time? I'd have to guess that, since having the game paused and going to dinner still counts as play time. I don't remember the exact value, but my savegame says 60+. Level 24 I think. I'll check those values later and edit.

The char I started off with was a Breton Spellsword. I played 22 hrs 38 mins with it and reached level 8.
Then I created my current char, a Khajiit Thief. I am 29 hrs and 56 mins into the game with it and it's level 16 now.

The best way to level up is to do random dungeons. I never use fast travel, and I clear (as in, kill every creature) about 3/4 of the dungeons I find. I guess that's how I'm level 41.

Sneak sneak sneak. Slice slice slice. Get hit by rats get hit by rats get hit by rats. (for Sneak, Blade, Light Armor--3 of my major skills)

Really, all it takes is just doing as much as you can to raise all of your major skills and doing it over and over and over. That way you diversify so you get lots of points for your attributes and level up pretty consistently. Enjoy!

My Imperial thief/assassin is level 21, I've played for 37 hours 34 minutes. I got bored because with Goldbrand, Umbra, Azura's star and the skeleton key, he was just godly. Stealing wan't a challenge and killing people wasn't hard anymore either. I gave up on him and made a new character: Eliedon, Brenton knight who's level 5 (I've played that character for 3 hours 31 minutes.)

I have I'm pretty close to leveling up though... I always fast travel, do you think that might explain why it takes so long for me to level up?

Blade, Block and Heavy Armour? Yeah, I use them every time I fight, and that's a lot.

Don't forget that you also have like 5 other major skills that require attention as well and raising each one every time you level gives you more options for adding points to your attributes after you rest....

I get the impression I have been playing this game far to much:
111 hours and a level 38 jack of all trades type
(started out at a sneaky thief, joined the mages guild to enchant stuff, went back to sneaking with the dark brotherhood, and have now started on the road to being a sword slashing fighter dude- probably explains why im leveling up slowly at the mo as im not really using my major skills!!)
