When do you believe life starts? At conception? At birth?

Personally I do not believe that life starts until birth.

Personally I'd make the call somewhere around week 23, but thats just the best biological guess and I feel its a good cautious call.
At the same time I don't think theres any one certainly true answer, and it should be up to the person who has to make the call (the mother) when having an abortion to decide what she believes.

Life is not such a black and white thing that you could argue that it starts at any particular point. The political issues regarding abortion is not just limited to a foetus being alive. The wellbeing and health of the mother must be taken into account.

Life does not "start" like you say, there is no way something "suddenly" becomes alive.
I mean, think about a seed, it is part of the plant, but not a seperate life......when it falls off it can GROW into another life, basically my point is that life develops rather than starts, as such a fetus in a human is still part of the mother, like an organ, it develops into something that can live on its own.
It's the way life is, one big biological merge rather than *pop* ohhhh a new life form.

Like feath said, "life is not such a black and white thing"

depends on how you define life

here's a conundrum:

my son was born 3 months premature, at 28 weeks ...so a full term baby is at 40 weeks ..yet when he came home he was 35 weeks old or -5 weeks old (at 40 weeks he turned 0) ...when he was a year old ..he was really only 9 months old physically ..yet he was "alive" for 1 year

This is the truest answer you can get regarding this topic. Life started when the universe exploded. It'll end when the universe collapses on itself (purely hypothetically and for example only, don't drag this into a universe theory conversation)

Humans don't start life, they progress it. When a person dies, life retrogresses.

But for all intents and purposes, I think someone needs to find that medium between the pro-life and pro-choice arguments, where both sides will be a little upset and a little content with the decision. There is no answer to be found, it must be made-up and written down.

Life Starts when you are Born, that day you enter the world.

womens bodies release us when they think its time for us to start living out life, (when were ready)

What about eggs?
Or seahorses where they are "born" and then stay in the pouch.
Or what about joeys in kangaroo pouches?
And what about what stern said with the premature baby, babies born early are not fully developed and as such "not ready" but can still survive with a little care (babies need care anyway)
And you don't enter the world when you are born, you have been there all along.

Life starts at 50. So now i'm just going to bludge until i'm supposed to do something "worthwhile"

ahhh

Can anyone here claim to be truely alive... have you felt the electromagnetic flux burst on your face from an exploding supernova? Have you ever saved a galaxy from destruction only to learn it was an evil galaxy of tyranny? Have you ever loaned a book from the library past it's "due back by" dated? Have you...*ahem*

Well I would say life begins with the ability of conscience thought, feelings, pleasure and pain. The ability to survive on one's own without being a parasite too.

So that's about 25 years old then. Better kill everything younger than 25 just to be sure.

Theres a lot of people in the UK that couldn't survive on their own as such.
Dependant on soceity as much as a baby is dependant on its mothers milk.

And yes, i have felt the electromagnetic flux burst on my face from a exploding supernova.

When you finally get off your ass and do something.

Life begins when i say it does

no, but really i think life begins when you plant a seed

oh, yeah, by the way, there is nothing wrong with being interdepanded, independence is not universally better

futher more

independence is just an illusion, we are all interdepanded on each other, FACE IT

Somewhere around the 15th week. There's when the child start getting sences and feelings.

Its not when life begins but when that clump of living cells becomes a human being. IMO unless you have a semi-functional brain that allows you to feel then you are really nothing more than a lump of cells.

life is constant, the whole universe is alive, and we are a part of it.. the human condition gives us tunnel vision.. so we make a definition in comparison to ourselves for what being alive is .. related to us, making us think life is a purely physical experiance, but its the symbiotic relationship between mind and matter that defines conciousness as we percieve it, so id have to say .. as soon as that baby starts thinking and becoming aware of itself it is safe to say it's then alive, but stopping that before hand is denying that possibility, so you could say that a fetus at whatever stage has the potential to be concious.. is that enough food for thought to stop abortion, even at early stages..?

but there is a percieveable difference between something being alive, and something being concious of its life.

Since modern science can't define what life is, you'll likely never have an answer to that question.

Technically life starts at conception. Human life, on the other hand, begins when you are capable of being aware of what's going on around you. I guess my answer is this: Life begins when you stop simply 'existing' and develop the capacity for rational thought. In other words, not at conception, not at birth. It begins at some point inbetween.

That's true, but when people insist that abortion is murder they believe that the fetus should be considered a human life, which brings us to the question of where do we stop? Are sperm and eggs considered human life? I don't see them as much less sentient than two month old fetus.

Life starts at the age of 6... Thats when you finally understand irony! (So I'm told)

Life never starts...

nor does it end...

why do you believe that? it always confuses me how people think life starts at conception.

it's almost always a christian sentiment ...life starts (according to christians) as soon as the fetus is given a soul ..right at conception

ya, i guess, but why should that be the basis of our knowledge? they are the ones who believe in God and that he created man (not all of them but a lot believe it) and used to believe the sun went around the earth. i hate to say it, but they are wrong about everything :) so they should stop telling me my business! they can believe what they want, but dont force it on other people.

I find it sickening that some people try to base (and do) laws on religious ideas.
It is silly how seriously people still take it these days, i.e it is not a belief but IT IS the only truth.

I'd like to prove that there is no soul right here right now, which i could do assuming everything is physical, but then again someone would say "it's not a physical thing", also people are entitled to their own views, So i am not going to attempt it.
I just wish their views didn't effect me.

when 14.....:D Who doesnt love when girls become horny?
