He signed off on the Assault Weapons Ban (Brady Bill) and although it expired in 2004, the states of California and New York, as well as cities like Washington and Chicago have basically signed a duplicate law in with no expiration...

Nobody named Cletus would be able to afford an assualt rifle. Automatic weapons are somewhat banned in the US. Anything made available to the public pre-1986 is fair game, but civilians cannot purchase new machine guns.

Also, here is an idea of the price...a semi automatic AK-47 will run around $300-400 on average...a fully automatic AK can run around $20,000...if you find someone willing to sell it.

And even then it has to be transferred after an extensive background check courtesy of the ATF, America's version of the SS...

Saying that every AK-47 and AR-15 and Hi Point out there is an assualt rifle is the kind of thing Sarah Brady came up with and anti-gunners use to scare the populace into passing stricter gun laws...

Why dont you actually try shooting a weapon to understand how a gun owner feels...it can be a thrill that wont be soon forgotten...I know my first time wasnt forgotten...I was in Boy Scouts, at camp...20ga Shotgun at the age of 13...knocked me on my ass, and my eye and ear protection went flying...

Seems to me the people that disagree with me live in places where they arent allowed to own much more than a .22 pistol, and only with special permits...

apples and oranges that was on their turf, under their terms with little to lose. they wouldnt give you the chance to form a resistence you'd be crushed swiftly and brutally before it got out of hand
 
I laugh every time someone says that they believe that a citizen militia could overthrow the US government using civilian issued small arm weaponry. This thread makes me laugh a lot.
 
Never did I say I was a member of or formed a militia. I enjoy my hobby as a collector of firearms. People like you who think guns are icky would have been laughed all the way back to France 240 years ago...this country, as most others, was formed under the principles of having rights. When someone decided that these people no longer deserved their rights, they were sent packing thanks to a dedicated group of individuals wielding weapons who refused to bow down to these overlords.
 
One of the only legitimate arguments for the right to bear arms in today's world is that of self-defense against intruders and other criminals. Although it may have been originally drafted for the purpose of fighting corrupt government, the reality is that it was written up with no foresight of today's circumstances. No civilian or militia today would stand a chance against the training and technological advantage of the US military in its own country.

Over 4 million square miles? Swiftly?

Do keep in mind such a move would be very unpopular. People generally don't like the idea of killing their own countrymen, sympathy etc.

Last note on this issue, but if push came to shove, I highly doubt the US military would extend much more courtesy to its rebellious citizens than it would any of its foreign enemies. And the government has shown itself more than capable of acting despite unpopular opinion.

My point is not to say it would be wrong to fight a government that's gone rotten to the core. But the idea that you'd be able to make a real practical difference or pose a serious threat to it - what with your probably relatively small numbers any way and ignoring how many of them wouldn't have been adequately trained with their firearms and physically able to go toe to toe with a marine - is pretty unrealistic.

The only solution is to give American citizens the rights to every technological advances such as tanks, aircraft carriers, submarines, nukes, rockets, etc.

I think US citizens should be allowed to own thermonuclear weapons in case they ever need to rebel against an oppressionist US government. Also, because they like to hunt deer with them and because they like to collect them.

US troops are occupiers in a foreign land with foreign customs, a foreign language and a tenous alliance with petty opportunistic warlords looking to score a point with the ocupiers ..the populace is often in colusion with those that would fight the occupation, hell even the police and the military trade sides on a regular basis, not to mention foreign fighters, foreign militias, terrorist groups, and anyone with a beef against the US


look, there's no way in hell you/people like you could ever mount a big enough resistance movement capable of overthrowing the government. You dont have the numbers, the financing, there's no cohesive organisation, lines of communication, no nationwide network of individuals all following the same gameplan and you never will because the US government would never allow any one special interest group pose a threat to it's existence

they have the media, they have indefinate resources and most importantly the will of the people which is easily swayed by visions of terrorist groups killing their families and raping their livestock ..in other words you dont stand a chance, no sane person could ever believe this as a remote possibility because it's so outside of reality. no, the ONLY reason why gun advocates cling to this preposterous notion of overthrowing the government is because otherwise the the justification for gun ownership in 2nd amendment falls apart and no longer applies to today

Need I remind you that much of the insurgent activity in Iraq aims to maximize civilian casualties? That is their method of effectiveness, as it's certainly not in their ability to go head to head with US military forces. Gotta say, that was a real poor comparison to make. In any case, you can be the first to suicide bomb the White House lawn.

Let's be honest. Most Americans are not going to pick up a weapon and risk their lives because we don't live in a despotic shithole and our prospects of turning into one on equal footing with a tyrannical Mideast regime is slim. They will instead watch you get shot and killed on CNN, shaking their heads in disapproval.

Even for a tiny guy the kick back on a 12ga shot gun (I never fired a 20ga) is like getting a moderate punch to your shoulder. It is not enough to knock you down, at least I wouldn't think.
