Objective: To compile a trailer with gameplay and music that is professional enough to be considered better than that of Valve's.

Record however you'd like. Fraps, demo, etc. Please, only in-game footage from Half-Life 2.

Of course, having the highest detail and highest frame-rates are always best when viewing a trailer of a game-so be sure you have a nice rig to handle heavy scenes. Just make it look nice.

Good luck on your trailers, guys. I'm awaiting to be amazed.

yeah good idea, ide love to see some good trailers cuz that valve one was no good. That "still seeing breen" had some parts that could of been a great trailer.

I have seen atleast 2 trailers, or videos of HL2 Gameplay, that were WAY better than Valves or vivendi's trailers.

i know how to record the video during hl2, but anyone know how to do the sound?

Same here, I can record some good video, but how do I splice it together and add sound, maybe some flashy text and such

I have the best idea...have a completely naked and highly attractive woman sitting on a chair, with her legs crossed, then have her uncross her legs, then cross them back over the other way, then fade to black and let 'Half-life2' come up. End of trailer. It will be a winner, trust me.

That basically will make any man or lesbian feel the same way had they just beaten HL2, so I think that's a great idea!

Brilliant!

I know I could make an excellent trailer (in fact, I attempted too about a week ago), unfortunately I'm lacking the RAM to make the video without skipping. I had everything ready to make it too, scenes mapped out, music and was semi-story boarded. Shame :(

Record demo. host_framerate 30. startmovie, playdemo, then export to rad game tools. there is a tutorial about it somewhere.

Still skips horribly.

Honestly, if someone got some awesome footage of the game (widescreen, high detail, max AA and all that, with no hud and other footage), I could edit it and make it look like a pretty decent/awesome commercial/trailer for HL2.

Ok, seeing as someone wondered how to get the sound, I made a short tutorial on how to export footage from source games and placed it in the HL2DM board:
Hope it helps. Please post any questions you may have in that thread, no this :)

Looking forward to seeing some great HL2 trailers here soon :D

OK. I have a trailer. It uses copyrighted music... IMO its better than Valve's...Might aswell post it anyways. Any suggestions on where to post it? (its 10.8 mb). Um yeah, as soon as I find a place to post it, I will. It's 1:27 long btw and has the fraps tags...Yeah...

Use filefront.
I might try this later.
Perhaps maybe make a HL2 Flash Trailer for a fun project once I start getting better... and maybe once I get a draw ta... oh hell, like I'd ever have money to buy one of those with all the paintballing equipment I'm buying.

If you got Windows XP Chances are you got windows movie maker, use that for the sound, if your using demo from half-life 2 get VirtualDub.

Good editing, good sound, decent cinematography. I liked it.

Just work on your camera movements, it's tough with a mouse but try to be a little smoother and more cinematic. I believe you could get better ones if you play with the hl2 demo tools ingame.

Yeah, I've been playing around a bit with that. I'll probably invest in the full version of Fraps aswell. Thanks for the advice.

Investing in Fraps would be good, not too steep of an investment. Or you could just download it :E depending on your morality about that sort of thing.

Very nice Canadian Gunner. That was amazing.
Thanks for posting your HL2 trailer. :)

You finished making your trailer yet?

I basically got bored and stopped. I might try and get some friends together to make a Matrix scene in The Specialists... maybe the lobby scene.

Well... I recorded atleast 30 minutes of video to edit and cut. Only to find my mike was on, and you could hear the keyboard type, it is very noisy. That, and it was somewhat choppy, and the sound didn't work.
Scratch the entry I was gonna do.
I had good footage too. Damn.
I think I'm gonna stick to trying to just photoshop.

Gunner I must say, that was absolutely brilliant. Great work. Are you working on any other projects?

Thanks. I'm sort of working on other projects. I've tried making a few other trailers (so far without any other successes)...um, I tried to make a music video, but that didn't go well either...and with with school starting soon, I don't see much being done for now, but well see. I also do stuff for the school's yearbook DVD aswell as with friends.

Yeah, your trailer was Superb.
Everything seemed right.

Thanks guys. Its interesting, I made this trailer quite a while ago (in june i think) just out of bordom. Then just the other day I found out about this thread (I was away when it was first posted) so I posted it.

very nice... if there wasn't any classical music, I would say that would have been a very nice E3 trailer teaser.

Not a fan of classical music eh?

Asking me to make a trailor would be like asking a caveman to build a nuclear reactor, but I read the thread, and Canadian Gunner, your trailor was awesome.

Well it sucks >=(

Lol just kidding mate, it was more than alright :D
