Who's hosted a LAN party?

I'm hosting one this weekend for my golden birthday (January 18th) for my friends, six people total.

So in my basement, I already have three [gaming] computers, and three of my friends are bringing their boxes (already have two extra 17" monitors), along with one friend with one monitor.

It's going to be sweet There's going to be four computers on one table and two on another. It's starting at 12 PM and we're going till night. We're gonna be playing (multiplayer):

* Deadlock
* Age of Empires III
* Yuri's Revenge
* Empire Earth
* Goldeneye: Source (three Steam accounts)
* Dungeon Siege II
* Maybe some Quake 4/DOOM 3
* SNES and N64 games over the network.
* Maybe some Gamecube MP mayhem.

I can't wait, w00t. I'll post pics when the day comes.

So who else has hosted LAN parties at their house/elsewhere?

Only 12 hours? That many games? I think you need to get more time somehow. I have lan's with my cousins, and they usually just sleep over.

Refreshments are important, we usually order pizza and have tons of snacks and drinks.

Not really much advice to give besides the obvious.

But what I often do (for reasons I really am not sure of) is record audio of the party. Just set up a recording program and my mic in the middle of the room and just record for hours. It's fun to listen to them when you are bored and recall good times.

Maybe I'm just weird like that but it's an idea

Largest one we had was like 9 people i think, i remember it was the first time any of us had tried the specialists mod....it was insane.

Most commonly played game was operation flashpoint, with all the community add ons we had a great laugh making missions.
Only about 10% the time we took it deadly serious...it was ace then.
Most of the time someone would end up doing something hilarious, ah the memories of the volvo 740 add on

I know we wont get through all of them; in fact we're probably only going to do Deadlock and Age of Empires III, but I never can predict my friends and who would want to play what. :rolling:

Haha. Kick is awesome... but evil at the same time. I've never dared to drink more than one litre at a time; even then I felt bad after one litre. You must have lead or something lining your stomach to drink 2 litres.

Haha I used to host 5+ person lan parties all the time, almost daily, when I was in high school. Lots of fun. My parents got fed up after a while though, so we started going to friends' houses. Currently we just play lots of D&D and Dota. My friend even donated a decent spare monitor to me so he wouldn't have to bring his all the time.

Well, it was a success.

Here's what happened:

12:00 PM to 3:00 PM - Setting up everyone's computers to play all the games (installing, latest drivers, etc.). Troubleshooting network because not everyone could join. Finally was saved by my old gateway router. After hooking that up and scavenging for network cables, we could finally play together. What I did was hook all the computers up to a switch (8-port) and then plug the switch into my router. Apparently, even with "Home Networking" Com**** doesn't like more than 5 PCs having IPs.

The rest of the time we played, in no order:

Soldier of Fortune II
Super Smash Brothers over LAN
Age of Empires III
Yuri's Revenge

By far the most popular game was SOFII and I think that's our new favorite LAN party game now. I didn't bother testing Goldeneye: Source because we were having too much fun, but after the party I tried network play with it and it DID work... so next time I think we'll try that, that'll be so fun.

I didn't find my cam so we couldnt take pictures, but I'm sure we'll do it again.

And yes, we had pizza and pop. Woo.

A LAN party on my birthday would be effing awesome.
The couple LAN parties I've been to were awesome. The first one was back in 2002 I believe, when a bunch of my CS clan friends who lived in the area (plus 1 who drove up from Oklahoma just to come to the party) got together. Definately something I want to do again.

Just make sure you have plenty of snacks and drinks. They are vital.

Has anyone tried the HL mod Master Sword Continued? I was playing it all today at a lan party with 4 friends, it's a lot of fun. It's like a first person cooperative RPG within the HL engine. It's kind of like a mix between Morowind and Half-Life.
