how is breen not dead, he blows up and falls in the base of the citadel, love to see you survive that
Maybe a combine advisor revived him. Seriously though, Valve always throws in twists like that. Hopefully its true to see the look on Alyx's face :dork:

What are her first words...if the________is where we think it is... then it should be no more than...

Atomic_Piggy its a deal !!;)

lol ,we're not even talking about whos gona die anymore, we're talkin about breen blowing up and meat powers lol.

*eats the words*

Taste like bacons. Mmn.

Eli dies, breen survives and in on this resistance's side.

If Breen's still alive I garuntee you he's in an advisor's body. And yes I'll eat my words... as soon as someone makes them tangible.

I DON'T think Breen is alive. IF he is (which I doubt) I think he'll be in an advisor body or the story will tell you he was. I seriously doubt Breen is alive at all but IF he is...

Eli could be the next to die cause he is the one that the combine is after apart from Gordon and Alyx.

no there after barney too, for helpin save people from city17,

I hope you can go back to the remains of city 17 on ep3 that would b good

Eli seems to be the most obvious choice. Would be interesting to see how they develop Alyx if it was Eli to die. Will she step up to the plate and become leader of the resistance or will she lose it and go AWOL?

Besides, Breen bieng in the advisor is obvious. Knowing Valve, it'll be something we can't suspect. Then we'll go back to episode one and say "oh the clues were there all along". Sounds like how valve would work.

I disagree, I think it'd be retarded. Not only does it take away from the Advisor itself but it's also fairly pointless.

You totally misquoted me. I'm just saying IF he comes back, being in an advisor body will be the only feasible explanation for his survival/escape of the citadel.

I seriously doubt the corpse in question will be Magnusson's. Players don't have any kind of emotional investment in him yet, so there would be no point. Besides, from what I hear, he's not completely sympathetic.

Barney seems like the obvious choice, but personally, I feel that killing off the protagonist's lovable, goofy old friend would be a bit of a cinematic cliche (remember when Harry Connick Jr. bought it in "Independance Day"? Saw it coming a mile away, didn't you?).

They might pull a fast one on us and ambiguously kill off the non-human Dog. As one of the series's best-loved characters his death/destruction would certainly cause a reaction among fans, though of course there remains the possiblity his head or CPU could be salvaged.

I don't see Kleiner getting it, and I think we pretty much know Alyx will be around for the rest of the series.

Which leaves Eli and Mossman, of whom the latter was last seen in a cliffhanger rendering her a somewhat obvious choice...too obvious, methinks. And Eli? His death would have a kind of gravity that would suffuse the uprising with a new sense of urgency while (as many have already said) provided a catalyst for Alyx's character development.

Eli it is, then. Though personally, I've always thought it would be kind of funny if Otis turned up at a resistance stronghold and got clipped by a sniper just as he was introducing himself ("Hi, my name is Oti--" THWIP!).

What didn't you see coming in Independance Day? :p
Had pretty much every cliche in the book.

What!? The White House getting blown up by the alien mother ship?
No way!!!!

Nope, that's what Valve would call "creative death", that's the reason why we never saw Black Mesa again. (for all you op4-haters: Yes, op4 frankly is not really canon, yet Laidlaw seems to appreciate the idea of owning BM with a nuke in the first place, as far as I know him)

I think watching Barney's life in jeopardy, just like Alyx' and Mossie's is, it really would give you a kick, reckoning this would make the HL-universe a much more grief-stricken world, where your *best* companion dies, withdrawing all the comic relief and maybe even getting the player a bit personal with a character, that hasn't had that much attention in the first place: Barney.

No characters had any attention in the first place. Hell, they were all made up for the sequal - a miracle that they managed to 'reintroduce' characters that didn't even previously exist.

i think the new black mesa dude will b the one to die, cos he might b important to kleiner and could really help the storyline.

i wouldn't give a shit if anyone died. except if it was alyx's dad.

gman doesnt die cos he reviels wat hes up, who he is to in ep2

Who's going to die? Not Alyx. Too obvious. Why would they give away the potentially biggest event in Ep2 in a trailer? They like to tease us and make us worry, which is precisely the reason to do something else entirely. Besides theres too much invested in the character: not simply emotionally, but all the work involved in making her seem "real" etc, why throw all that away? Plus it would be too much: the HL universe is bleak enough as it is: civilisation routed, the human race in danger of extinction, Earth in danger of being overun with alien life: her death would just be too much. Well, it would be for me anyway. Too damn depressing.

So that leaves the others: the new character, Magnusson? Possibly, but since we're only just introduced to him it wouldn't have much emotional impact so no. Kliener? Unlikely, I feel. He's pretty good comic relief. Barney? Well, he's the intemidiary between Gordon and the rest of the resistance: not a scientist, he's also young enough to go fight himself. So, again unlikely I feel. Mossman? Possibly, her death would be poetic justice for her earlier apparent treachery. Breen? Would anyone care? Too much a cause for celebration I think. Besides, you need a intemediary, a "face" for the Combine: otherwise they'd be simply too alien, too remote and impersonal and besides, a hate figure is always good for a story.

My vote goes for Eli. He's not really essential to anything and killing him would have an emotional impact without really changing the group dynamic. Plus it would really piss Alyx off and give her cause to hate the combine with a vengeance.

Breen Is Dead!!!!!

i just had a thought, who says any characters die? i mean valve also showed that alyx would die, but she doesnt, so at the moment we have no idea whos goin to die or wats goin to happen.

Valve confirmed a character would die. They also did not show Alyx dying. But sure, we really don't know what will happen, exactly.

lets just w8 till autumn nd find out who ???

g-man is a major character. given that he suddenly informs you of his purpose, he could well be killed off since the g-man is a "mystery" element. but maybe he's too integral to the hl2 experience.

whatever, we'll see.

What about Dr Breen?
No one has actually seen him die, this could just be Valves way of messing us around :p

i dont think itl be breen

i assumed (probably with a lotta other people) he died at the end of HL2, so for him to suddenly come back, just to die again is like blowing up a balloon and then popping it. besides i know hes a major character but to get a real effect people tend to pick of the good guys.

yes, finally some1 agrees with me :D
