I started out with Half Life in '98... and for me, with games... it's escapism, suspension of disbelief, getting into it all, and setting my mind on fire.

I like being able to think for a second that I am indeed Marshal John Dalton, fighting Skaarj, or Master Chief, blasting the Covenant... sad I know  but it's fun, fun to get away, fun to do what in life is impossible

I think I've said too much already ;(

For me it's getting into some kind of "movie" ( in case of a good game, like halflife)..it's entertaining..and maybe also some kind of escapism sometimes.

i just find it entertaining, kinda like playing a board game. That might be because I started with strategy games, though.

No you haven't :) i feel exactly the same about gaming! i started out in 96' with Deadly Tide, and been gaming ever since! for me its the adrenaline kick when gettin three headshots in a row or narrowingly escaping with the artifact ;) also probably to do stuff that i wouldn't normally be able to do :)

The challenge :) it's all about clans and tournies! :sniper:

(plus i'm in love with a certain Italian plumber)

For me it's because I get to do all the things that I can't or won't if we talk about killing people. I get to be a jedi knight and learn the way of the force. Ever since I saw Star Wars: A new Hope as an 8 year old I always wanted to swing a lightsaber.
People always say that it's good to play computer games (especially first person shooters) because then you get to express all your frustrations and your aggressions that you lock up inside of you, but that's not why I play games. Actually, sometimes I get MORE aggressive by playing them, for an example I almost freaked out today because I couldn't solve a puzzle in Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time.
So all in all I just play games to enjoy myself and to become someone I'm not...sounds sad but it's true

Now you've gotten me curious, who's that plumber? And are you a girl?

I started gaming when I was 5 or so, with Wolfenstein 3d on my Aunts computer and haven't looked back. Games are an escape, and I put myself right into them. They are also an outlet (emotionally and creatively), the best one I have. That's why games are so much more than simple ways to pass the time for me, and I'm offended when people attack them or berate them.

I'm a gamer simply becuase it's fun, I love playing multiplayer games that involve actual teamplay, like ravensheild co-op mode.

But i didnt actually play hl for a little time after but when i did i was hooked onto shooters!

For me games have allways been a way of experienceing things that I would other wish not be able to. :)

I believe warbie is talking about *cough, cough* Mario. I dunno if they are a guy or a girl though.

anyhoo, I got started on gaming with Starcraft. Man, what a great game... It was an awesome game to get a person interested in gaming. Ever since then I've been playing till my thumbs turned raw.

also are the LAN parties... competition really gets me fired up!

Ahhhhhh, well I'm a bit slow today.......

I've been gaming since I was 3.
I just barely remember the Atari.
I clearly remember playing Metroid on Nintendo...and defeating it, only to have Samus be revealed a girl.

Most of all, I enjoy intense First Person Shooters. The realism of viewing the game from the characters perspective, along with things seemingly close.
Sure, my TPS' outnumber my FPS', but the FPS is #1 in my book.

Half-Life and Halo are my favorite games.

my first game was Sensible Soccer, man i was shit at it seeing as i was only a toddler, but i was hooked on the pretty colours. i played various arcadey type games that tested your hand-eye co-ordinations (we also need hand-eye co-ordinations for porn too so it was good practice). but then i got a copy of Civilzation and bang, games took on a whole new light for me. it was with civ that i realised that games could be an art form. civ was gloriously put together, great depth, substance, breadth, and longeivity...it was almost poetry. from then on i just set out to find the best gaming experiences there were, because quite frankly, games are a far better experience than sitting in a movie theater for 3 hours (excluding Star Wars and LOTR). then of course Doom came along then everything gets a bit blurry here, think there were too many shit games, then HL came along and the love affair started again.

the reason why i'm a gamer? because i choose to.

I started at the age of 6, My first 2d game was back in 1988 its called Ninja War. Since then I started playing games Not only for fun but also to get knowledge from whats happinning in the latest technology of the Computer industry. I started to play games only on Attari and Playstation Consols, then in Jan 2000 I bought my second PC it was P3 700MHz, I bought it because PC games got better graphics and more control than Consols. Since Jan 2000 I am playing only PC games and I ignored completly Consols ones.

PC GAMES FOREVER.

I rember playing Maniac Mansion and Defender of the Crown on the Commador 64 when I was 6, Ahh the memories :)

I could list hundreds of reasons I play games but I'll keep it short.
1. I love stories and good games (like HL) tell great stories.
2. I love technology. The things video games are doing amazes me.
3. The real world blows. HL, SW, SC, Thief, HW, AVP, PoP, etc all have more interesting things going on. Hell, even saving the Princess from a castle is more entertaining than paying my bills.
4. I can do things in video games I can't in real life.

A cookie to anyone who can name all of the games I acronymed.

Half-Life Alien, versus predator, Prince of Persia, Star Wars?, Splinter Cell, Home World

Do i get my cookie?

Ive been gaming since doom 1.. I was a hardcore fan and I could play doom 1 and 2 with my eyes closed and a dead bird up my ass.

Thats signature material.

I'm not really a gamer. I'm more of a forum addict, or a "sit on my ass and do nothing"-er.

I play games because it is an escape on reality and I can do whatever I want.

But a big problem for me is that the experience has to be perfect otherwise I won't enjoy. I have some nice games on this computer but my system just doesn't cut it so I don't "enjoy" playing anything.

It's wierd.

I started with Nintendo, Mario Bro's.....and went from there.

I just like the challenge. Being able to feel like I'm getting somthing done in my free time (even though I'm not).

And now with games like HL, i play for the experience of playing. Being able to exist in this seperate world, trying to survive through some extreme shit.

Thats fun.

Errr... I play because it's fun... and stuff...

Oh, and I'm too athsmatic and scared of sports equipment to play sport... and too smart to spend my time chasing after some damn ball...

I play because

a)They offer a challenge
b)Partly escapism
c)Sometimes (this may seem like it contradicats a) its fun to not have to sue my briain, and just blast thing, whether i be in Halflife or Command and conquer.
d)They are good practice for certain skills
e)As a man its a choice between masturbation and computer games. Since i don't masturbate, i choose games :)

back in '91 i think it was.. (or somewhere around there) i saw my friend playing Doom and after that i just had to get a comp.. and that game pretty much had me hooked on pc's..

aside from playing Doom2 online with friends occassionally, Diablo was the first online game i played in any length of time.. then along came this game called Half Life and it changed fps games in the online part and i have been hooked to it since :)

First PC game I really played was Need For Speed 2. I then branched off into Starcraft, and later on Half-Life. These games are what made me a gamer. I think I'm a gamer because it allows me to do and see things I normally cat do or seen in every day life. I like to put myself In my charcter's shoes, and just really Immerse myself. I think games like Half-Life, Unreal, Halo, and Deus Ex did really good with immersion. Hope Half-Life 2 does really good Immersing me! (I know Deus Ex: IW did a good job of it. Recently got it and am playing it through for a second time. Great game with tons of possibilities (aside from the bugs)

thats exactly why i play...... because real life sucks....... nobody wants to think you an unimportant peon compared to the billions of folks out there...

first video game I played: was orginal nes mario good shyt

1. becuase its fun

2. its not real

3. games are better than real life most of the time.

first PC game i ever played was wolfenstein 3D

first video game.....would have to be pong

I just love the immersion factor. There's nothing better than hiding in bush while a platoon of T80 tanks roll past in Operation Flashpoint, or an adrenaline-pumped rush for a kill in Unreal Tournament. The challenge is always great, too. Video games just offer alot more interactivity than anything else, and that's why it has such a great fanbase.

My good Lord! Op. Flashpoint, the most underrated game ever!I´ve got it and the 2 expansions. It´s the MOST REALISTIC GAME EVER with great graphics. It's a shame what happened to it.(Op. Flashpoint 2 in on work however)

About the topic, I´m a gamer since my dad bought me a Super Nintendo and a 486 on the same X-mas. Playing Super Mario and Doom 2 when in the same that day was a pleasure that stayed inside as a memory till today.
Then it progressed- 486 - P 200Mhz - P2 600Mhz - P4 2.5Ghz
Super Nintendo - Mega Drive - Sega Saturn - Sega Dreamcast - Sony PS2 - Microsoft Xbox
I had a real passion for Sega, it was also a shame about Dreamcast, it had great games. I mean the Console makers of today don't even hv imagination for new names Playstation 1-2-3... Xbox 1- 2 -3...
In the old days it was Mega Drive 1-2\32x - Saturn - Dreamcast
Super Nintendo - Nintendo 64 - Gamecube

Ahhh the Old Days are :x . What a shame for the industry.
Even so I still game in the hope Sega ressurects from the ashes.

There was something about Super Mario World and Zelda: A Link to the Past that sucked me in back when the Super Nintendo just came out...

The funny thing is, I can't really think of an acual reason other than I enjoy it.
