Why are you a gamer?

I'm a gamer because games kick ass, and without them i'd see no meaning in life. Any life.
I hope you're joking. :|

started playin so long ago! the earliest proper game i can remember is Commander Keen (unless Doom or QuaKe were before that - i have no memory).Play for enjoyment, to escape and to forget whats happening in my world.

first time I tried Pong I was hooked ..that pretty much explains the rest

the first proper PC games I remember playing where on 186 systems.. games like 'test drive', 'altered destiny',and 'wolfenstein 3D'.. those where the days, Altered destiny used to freak me out I also cant forget day of the tenticle,, thats what really got me into games, As for my attachment, they are great artistic tools and are the best for having some random fun.

My mum had a pong console for the TV, i loved that.
I loved the adventure games we had on the packard bell, windows 3.1 machine.
I loved Ceasar 3, i loved CivNet, i loved Alpha centuari, i loved watching my mate play Unreal on his new spanking 500mhz pc. I loved watching him play Half-life.
I loved it when i got a good enough Pc to play Counter-strike and i got broadband, i got straight into the clan scene.
Loved playing clan matches, using tactics and such to win.

Love WoW, Hl2 and this community because of my facsination with games! :D

Why are you a gamer

I would call myself a gamer since my main hobby is gaming.

The first 'game' to my memory was either a Thomas the Tank Engine card game on PC or an educational game about a dog that loves cookies... (Don't ask)

But the first serious game would be the original Prince of Persia :D

got a NES when I was 5 or 6, duck hunt is still the shit

I've been ripping it up since the Atari, yo. But I think the reasons I still play games today is because the immersion does allow me to pretend that things are not so complicated as life has to be. No matter how complex, games can never emulate life (thank God). Probably the same reason I've been reading since God was a boy. Books, no matter how well written can never be the same as living. Thus is excapism achieved...

How hard would it be to put an autolock feature in that locks any thread that hasbeen inactive for a certain amount of time.

Its not like the thread isn't being used properly though vegeta... I really don't see the problem with it being brought back up.

farrow is right. some ppl weren't here when this thread was created and its a good topic and i bet if we created one like this you would have said "use search you nub"

Ain't it the truth. You bump an old thread, people get on your case, you make a new thread on the same topic, they will just yell at you to search.

Use search noob.

Uhh, not really. This is one of those threads that can be discussed any time. I would not have said anything if you made a new thread like this. If it was something like posting a flash video or news item that has already been posted, then we would say use search.

well then, watev man. no biggie. some ppl might be interested at wat others said. and its a good stroll down memory lane

The challenge :) it's all about clans and tournies! :sniper:

(plus i'm in love with a certain Italian plumber)
I'm totally the oppostite. I play single player games for immersion, story and ambience. When i'm sucked into a gaming world it's the ultimate form of escapism. Kicks that shit out of smoking a j imo.

So you'd rather have yet more threads to clutter up the forum? Really makes searching a nightmare you know... and its wastes space.

Oh well who cares? :D

All I know is I'm teh sexeh.

Hmm, well Im a gamer because its something I enjoy, and theres very few of those, and considering I want a job I'd enjoy, that really limits career choices.

Yeah, why not Monkey. Hmm I wonder. Oh well, what's the point of sitting here wondering, when I can just go outside and save the world from the Combine overlord.

Oh wait, haha, I can only do that in Half-Life 2.

I like to play out stories, and see nice things unfold before my eyes. I like to play with people I'd never look at twice if I was swimming or something. I like to get smarter, faster and more strategic in my thoughts. I like to make decisions without real consequence.

I like to game.

Because life is boring, and because I really like the people here than the majority of people I meet in real life.

I don't even know how I became a gamer. I guess I was one all my life. They always helped me escape reality and the harsh environment I live in. I would say they help me release my anger, but nowadays they cause more anger. :p

1 reason-entertainment, after mgs i started taking gaming more seriously i guess, that was the like the 1st game i played for hours on end.

Seriously? Honestly, as much as I like, and feel close to many people here, at the end of the day they're just an idea in my head until I meet them.

We are all just figments of your imagination, made to order to make you seem better by comparison. :E

That sounds like some kind of new advertising campaign.

Only reason is, its fun, you can make things that you cant in real life. Things like shooting a cop, driving 500km/h through New York. Things that are impossible in real life. And in a game its not far from a realistic feeling:p

EDIT: Or i should put it this way, Games are the closest thing where you can do things that are impossible in the real life.
