Why are you buying the Wii?

i first got interested in it when i saw how much lower the price was.... but hten it was the remote that sold me :-P. I will probably wait a while, so that the prices of the system and games go down even more, but im sure i will end up getting it.

Am I the only person that is not the least bit excited for the Pii

Anyone who's not buying the Wii, gtfo.

The main reason why I'm buying the Wii is innovation. Some will say that the Wiimote is corny and gimmicky. I have to partly agree, however you have to admit that it's different; new.

The XBOX 360 and PS3 are amazing in their own rights. The 360 has a great online component (Live!) and great games. I play my friend's 360s pretty frequently. The controller is comfortable (almost as comfortable as, gasp, Sony's controller), and the games look great. With the PS3, it's the hardware beast of consoles. The games look amazing. From the CG to the actual game play. The detail is just amazing.

If you look at the above paragraph you'll see something in common about the two consoles. The graphics look really good.

...And that's about it.

About graphics: this is what I have a gaming PC for.

If I want amazing graphics, I'll load up something on my PC. If I want a comfy controller, I have a 360 to plug in to my computer. The graphics on the computer has and will always surpass any console. I laugh when I hear people rave about 1080i definition. PCs have been able to game in 1024x+ for how long now? EDIT: 1080i is 1920*1080. THANKS SOUP, LAWL.

The reason I'm buying a Wii is innovation. It's something new. Something fun. Something different. Graphics I couldn't care less about when I have a gaming PC. The Wii is going to be amazing. Any game will suddenly have a new, fresh perspective with the Wiimote and Num-chuk. How can anyone deny this?

Red Steel, from a critics point of view, may seem dumb, overused and boring. However, now that you actively control your weapons, it's fun, interesting and different. Zelda has been around for a long time. People claim that it's boring and repetitive (those same people buy FFXII but whatever). But with the Wiimote, you slash, ride and jump with a new connection to the game. Even fishing, something so god awful boring, will seem cool.

So, why are you buying a Wii?

well said - same reason as you
I use PC for fancy graphics/online play. I will use Wii with friends and family and have a cool/fun time with this new device which shouldnt actually be rly called a 'console' because its something new :D

plus I played with the wiimotes in the store and they work great! very well done on controls nintendo

Not that i'm saying TP doesn't look good, but that is a classic example of how bias you are towards Nintendo.

'It's a beautiful game, too. There's more to beauty than raw polygons, and Zelda succeeds where it counts: The land of Hyrule is gorgeously crafted from Zora's Domain to the Ordona Woods. The world has a rustic, classical feel that stands as a counterpoint to the menacing artificiality of the Twilight Realm, the world of darkness that threatens to consume the kingdom. It's amazing to think this is technically just a GameCube title; the open areas of the game boast impressive horizons and no pop-in to speak of -- if a monster is standing at the other end of Hyrule Field, you can see its eyes glittering evilly in the darkness a quarter of a mile away.'

:p

I'm not too sure anymore. When it was shown at E3, I was MAD hyped for it. But now, when I actually start thinking about my actions to buy it, it boils down to two games: Zelda and Mario, the former which I will buy for GC come December.

Need more games to come out.

Yeah originally I was gonna buy it, but then I decided I want to spend the money working on my car instead...I'm currently jobless and $250 isn't exactly chump change to me

They are making a mouse that is the Wii Controller, so you could just play your PC games with this so-called "intuitive new controller". You could just buy the Wii Mouse, and download the Wii games, it'll be extremely cheaper in the long run..

Although that doesn't go to say that owning a Wii won't be fun, it'll probably be better actually owning a Wii, I'll probably eventually buy it when the price is like $175-$200.

Lets see downloading Wii games...then running them on an emulator...

Sounds illegal.

Besides, newer console emulators take crazy awesome rigs to run. I can't even run a 2d, sprite-based, rpg game with my ps2 emulator and have it stay above 20fps.

Its because of how optimized the games are for that one system

Except the functionality for the Wiimote that isn't present on a mouse. These control methods are so different that there's no 'better' here, just different. One thing is for sure, there will be games for the Wii that wouldn't be possible with another control method.

That doesn't mean those games will be interesting or fun. There is that distinct possibility. From the videos I've seen you don't actually have to move the remote that far at all and it just becomes another control method. The satisfaction of using a the wii controller will quickly die off.

Reason for purchase - easy gaming gift idea for a cheap friend I know.

Considering on how much it helps with things like aiming........ idk...

Same goes for every console......

The whole point of it is to be another control method. An easier, more advanced, funner, and overall better control method.

Have fun waiting 4/5 years for a working Wii emulator, considering there isn't a PS2 one that can get you a stable frame rate of over 10fps yet.

Come on now if that was true all those retro shooter guns we used would still be a hit device. The fun factor will degrade over time that can easily be predicted, thank you DS.

We'll see. They'll be different - something you see very rarely in this hobby.

Imagine a new Pilot Wings with the Wiimote - or how about Space harrier, Panzer Dragon, Star Fox, Rez, Magic Carpet ... any of these could be superb. I've also big hopes for Metroid.

I hope there will be a few games I'll really enjoy, the current titles don't excite me that much yet. Never been much of a Zelda/Metroid/Mario fan hence the main issue I have with finding good Nintendo games. What I mean by fun factor regarding the remote is the shear factor of you noticing how fun it is. Initially we'll all love it and that experience will gradually fade into the remote simply being another tool in your mind.

Well Nintendo never pushed it enough. If Nintendo didn't push analog sticks do you think the PS1 would have it? Hell the Ps2 might have not even had it.

So? It becomes like that with everything. Hell the analog stick has faded away. Whats your point? Plus lets take off the current analog sticks for controllers...you know how hard it would be to control them? Think of it like that with the Wii vs Controllers with just Analog Sticks in a few years.

What Zelda and Mario games have you exactly played for a good amount of time?

Hype I see and hear too much of it. Not your normal "it's going to be awesome" hype either. I mean the 100% fanboy hype I used to deal with at school. Yr 12s over so I don't have that problem anymore at least.

None I can't get into those sorts of games for an extended period of time without wanting to bash my head in with the controller. I think I actually did said action many years ago busting a controller or two.

Do you have a decent controller for your pc?
Get(DL) Super Mario 64 and Project 64. It's still one of my favorite games of all time. There are also still things in the game I can't figure out.

While I don't hype outside of the internet, though I could see how it can get annoying. No one hypes any console at my School, anyone who starts talking about games\a console for an extended amount of time often becomes incredibly annoying and the entire school hates them.

I never really hear any hype for anything outside of the net.

Hehe, they are releasing a new zapper, you slot your Wiimost into it and all the control transfers to the gun and the thumbs stick on top of it. Here is what Wiki has to say

Also, regarding controller use, I think this Penny Arcade sums it up...
