Ive noticed over the time I have played FPS's (From which when I Was Like 6 or 7 "Turok -N64, 007, ect.) till now (HL2 and Halo 2), that barely ANY FPS's let you see your other parts of your body except your arms. The only ones that come to mind that actually did was Halo 2 and Chronicles Of Riddick. Why is that? Is it really that hard to have a model that you can see when you look down? Because I find that it ruins the experience when you look down and see a shadow hovering in mid air under a floating pair of arms. Is there a specific reason for this or is it just lazinees?

I really dont care if i see my feet or not, infact id prefer not to see my feet.

I've thought about this too.

In the old Doom 1 and 2 days, you couldn't look down (or up) anyway so it didn't matter.

When Quake came out, and I think for every game ever since, featuring feet either involves displaying a close-up model of waggling legs right below your camera viewpoint, or sticking the full character model just behind your viewpoint.

I don't think they did this because most likely either the model would bisect your viewpoint and obstruct your view, or the player model (which you will mostly never see fully) just uses up resources that can be better used to display enemy models.

If you turn player shadows on in single-player Doom 3, it best illustrates my first point above - the shadows are there, but some of the time they splinter and fragment, as if the player model was being intersected.

A lot of people will want uber-realism in their favourite games, but I think this is one of those situations which will always keep games relegated to their present state.

Because uuuhm...
Hitman 3 lets you see your body, but only because it's mainly a third person game with first person built in. I guess to model the legs and everything in first person would mean wasting more poly's (since they usually make the weapons in first person high-poly with nice textures and stuff)

but I don't know.

EDIT: Foebowned :E

Look at it this way: You're on a catwalk sniping and your target is low. You aim your gun down for it's head but OH NOES your foot is in the way!

But what I'm annoyed about is the fact that you don't see your hands while steering a vehicle.

you can see your legs in Halo 2, too bad the rest of the game is crap

EDIT: I didnt read all of the fist post

Edit2: its becuase its not a useful feature that would give the game good PR, so why bother making it

Niether, the very obvious reason that it's a waste of time and it would probably look really ugly.

QFE

You can see your arm(s), hand(s), and fingers when holding a gun, so why not a damn steering wheel? And most notably the hands when you get the HEV Suit.

Not seeing Gordon's feet is something I don't mind.

In first person games where you can see your feet it's never a problem, and looks a lot more natural than the "floating camera with hands" feeling that most FPS games give. I know why it used to be a problem but now there's really no reason not to do it, as many games have proved it doesn't really have any negative effects.

The rest of the game rocks imo, especially on xbox live now bungie have sorted it.

When im running around busting up Aliens, i never ever look at my feet :|

It's a very immersive effect, and it's pointless NOT to have it.

Exactly. Halo 2 has it and it makes the experience all the more realistic. And it didnt hinder the game in any way. It looks realistic and cool, not awkward, and I dont see why more FPS's dont do it. I think Halo 2 was like the first major game to do it. Or maybe Gordon Freeman is just leaning his neck and arms so far away from his body that its impossible to see it.:D

Every time I looked down in Halo 2, it felt as if the knees were cracking the head. Pretty annoying and pointless, not immersive at all if you ask me.

umm.. dont really know how to say this so i will just say it. No. Your wrong.

His opinion is wrong? Wow... grow up.

Anyway, I don't play FPS' that have aliens, zombies, and huge stilt striders for their uber realizim.

Seeing legs/feet dosent impact gameplay at all. It's a very simple addition that most FPS developers decide to not bother with, since no alot of people really care about it anyway. Not to mention the way current FPS' impliment it looks very unnatural, since when you look down in real life you see your whole torso and legs, not just your legs.

It's not laziness.

umm, I actually do know how to say this. No, I'm not wrong. My opinion, not the same as yours. Comprehend?

Also, even if someone on the dev team was lazy, it wouldent be the programmers so much as the modeling department.

Okay, think about this: The last time you found your self fighting aliens/soldiers/mercinaries/dinosaurs how often did you look at your feet? Exactly. You didn't so why would Freeman or any other FPS protagonist? I mean really what is the point? Spend time creating a pair of legs/feet when you could be bettering the games AI/graphics/something more important (as in anything)? There is no reason what so ever. If you want realism dont play a game about a physiscist from a secret research facility in an armoued suit who fights aliens/soldiers/alien controlled soldiers.

Also another game that features visible body parts other than the arms is Tresspasser. Now wouldn't have halo 2 been so much better if you could look down to see a pair of breasts with a health meter tatoo rather than a pair of feet?

Quite right.

#1 It was an opinion, in which there is no right or wrong.

#2 You're, not your.

#3 'Your' wrong too.

why the $#%$@#% would you want to be able to see your own fat legs? what's the point? the only game i can think of that did that is halo 2, and that game was HORRIBLE.

Let's not put grenades in Aftermath. What's the point? There is none.
Hope you get the analogy.
What's the point of not seeing your legs?
What do you see when you look down? Oh, that's right, your legs/body.

You don't get it. How can something that doesn't exist have no point? How can it be pointless? It's like saying dragons are pointless.

And grenades would actually affect gameplay.

yeah when i showed my friend hl2 he right away said "this game is suppose to be all detailed, but it doesnt even put his hands on the wheel, even those crappy nascar games do that"
i think it would be a cool feature to see his legs also, but not really needed, i really thought they should of put hands on the wheels though also

neither, it is pretty much the norm in FPS and Valve didn't veer off into that area.

Why does it bother you guys so much? I would prefer them out of the game.

Just sounds like he was loooking for things to critisize.

Don't triple post.

I've thought of this several times. Seeing your own feet? That'd be nonsense. Just because so you could try to shoot at them and then blaim the programmers/modellers.

i think its fine the way it is. they dont need to be putting in pointless disgusting legs, and they dont even need hands on the steering wheels either. if they did, then it would actually look like some nascar thing, and then it would suck. just say no to legs

If they make legs, then they'll just wobble out of place and get on ypur nerves. The chgaracter has no legs, so that u can't shoot yourslef. I think it will be fun thou, bein able too shoot ur own feet. LOL. lmao.

look, i know im gonna get flamed for this but, well... Half Life 2 sucks in multiplayer (Counter Strike included. HATE IT!) Good enough storyline, but HALO 1 AND 2 IS SO MUCH BETTER... Multiplayer-wise and singleplayer. Deal With It. Or you could just go with the crowd and hate halo 2, u bunch of PS2 players... u suck.

Resize your sig. It sucks.

Halo 1 is good enough, but Halo 2's storyline is like pulling rubber. The character design is horrible, voice-acting is horrible and it's just... a video game. Half-Life 2 has a storyline of a movie, there are intense fighting levels, slow-paced scary levels, great coast line levels to stop and take a look at the nostalgic yet beautiful view... The physics along with the gravity gun tops over Halo 1 & 2. Also, the gravity gun is a thing that makes HL2: DM better than Halo multiplayer. Half-Life 2 is simply better in all aspects. Deal with it. Or you could just leave the Half-Life forums, you bunch of Xbox players.

P.S. Half-Life and Half-Life 2 are mainly released on PC, not on PS2.
