Why do I bother?

This was in relation to his situation.

When I said "you either do x or y", I was literally addressing him.

Right, I understand who you were addressing. But why does he not have a 3rd choice? Is there something that is physically preventing him from getting up off his ass?

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!

I DID SOMETHING RIGHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I MADE A MINTY BOOST AND IT WORKS, TWO OF THEM BOTH WORK!

I also made a USB charging cable for my dads phone because his battery sucks!

I am going to e-bay one of them and see if I should make more, unless someone here wants it?

Did you actually make the circuit for that or are you using an exsiting pcb board (if so from what device)?

Either way that's actually pretty damn cool.

Mceedee's is meant to be for college people who need some spare change to pay for gas at least. Not a lifelong career.

Wha?? If by college you mean highschool then you'd be correct.

It is cheaper to buy the parts separately if you are going to make more then one, if not then just buy the kit they sell.

I don't understand your persistence to keep making / fixing random items and then reselling it to ebay. Getting any type of job out there would net you enough money to both pay your folks and feed yourself. The same can't be said of your current ebay shtick.

I don't know, my brother was playing around with electronics and with programing as a teenage - eventually got hired to repair computers, then got hired to fix arcade machines, then got a job as a programmer, and now makes like $110,000 a year, with just a HS education.

Go for what you like to do, I say.

Given his situation, I don't think he has the luxury to go that route. Not saying you should give up on what you like doing but you have to be realistic given the circumstances you are faced with.

yeah, my brother took up jobs at places like Hardee's and worked in a warehouse as well before he got a break repairing electronics. once you can say, "I repaired circuit boards for 2 years" or something like that, you've got your foot in the door in this field to do similar jobs, certified or not.

So yeah, if you have bills, you have to be working somewhere if your ideal job is not ready to be realized.

Maybe I could just say that, or do they want proof?

They always want some kind of experience. sometimes they would hire you without experience though.

Somehow, my brother impressed the store owner. I'll ask him what he said to get a shot. Getting a job an electronic technician with no prior work experience won't be easy. You have to know what all the components do and how to tell if a part is bad, and how to solder, etc. You'd probably need to take electronics in high school or whatever, and learn how to use Ohm meters and oscillators - things like that.

Though, computers are built a lot different now, and things are different where most of the time an entire board is replaced. Replacing a transistor or capacitor is probably a dead business.

Still though, you may find some kind of work that still requires these kind of skills.

I'll PM you when I find out what my brother did

I already have my own multimeter!

Seriously, I don't get you. Obviously you know about electronics. Why don't you go and get a tech certificate to start you off? Those things aren't that difficult to get and the average electronic tech in my area makes between $18 - $24 /hr. Based on your "mint boost" or what ever the hell its called it looks like you already know how to read a schematic. Am I wrong on that assumption?

But before you start there you need some kind of income. What in the world is preventing you from going out and getting a job, even at fast food for now?

Do you have any ambitions for school or is your only plan for the future selling shit on ebay? And no, lying about your experiance wont work, they will call your previous employer. Why do you constantly try to take the easy way out? There is no easy road in life, accept that.

You have ignored everyone that has tried to give you some advice, maybe you'd show enough interest to reply to this.

Damn man maybe you should move out already? I moved out to a new city with my lady just on the fly- we both got hired within a month and now we make bank. Its just you got no drive to push for that it seems.

I would go get certified in electronics but none of the crap-tastic schools around here have anything better then "software engineer".

What area are you in? I gurantee I'll find you a certificate program. If you dont want to post here pm me.

are you serious? Software engineers make tons of money.

Try and get into networking. There's going to be a huge demand for systems analysts/system administrators in the next few years...that's when you'll be making good money.

Funnily enough, there's a larger demand for electronic engineers around here than the latter. Not enough big business for software programmers around this area, but people still like having electricity.

Local colleges tend to support fields that are in high demand around the area, so if you can't find what your looking for, you might want to think about moving. If I was desperate, I'd just fill up my car and leave. Difficult yes, but not impossible.

Ok so I should...

Buy a car.
Pack my stuff.
Rent an apartment.
Apply for a school.
Pay for said school expenses.

$200 should cover it?

Get a bicycle
sell your stuff
give parents $200
get parents to give you a break and help with school
don't procrastinate any more

sell stuff.
leave parents.
steal car.
give me $200.
go to college.
kill yourself.

you should give me the area you live in so I can show you that there is a certificate program that you can get in to. Or do you just want to pretend that no such program exists so you can sit on your ass all day saying everything sucks?

There is nothing stopping you from going out and looking for a job. I don't care if 100 people reject you, ANYONE can get hired. Can't get your dream job? Neither can most people. But life is life, and sometimes you have to settle for what you can get. Work retail. They won't give you enough hours? Work there, earn what you can, look for another job and have two jobs, or three, or four.

It doesn't even sound like you're trying. Fiddling with electronics and selling them on ebay sounds more like a hobby than a job. What exactly is stopping you from doing both that AND a retail position? Why do you care about room for growth in a retail position? Go to night school if you have to, get an associate's degree. Go get A+ certified. **** man, do anything.

Are you afraid that if you try, you'll fail? Because I'll tell you something, not trying IS failing. You are already failing, so how is it going to hurt you if you try? Worst that'll happen is that you won;t get the job, so what, you're already there.

Help yourself. Doesn't sound like you have no alternatives, it just sounds like you want to have things handed to you.

^This.

I myself am A+, Net+, and MCSE certified, but I'm gonna have to move from this hole I currently live in if I want to make anything of myself. Moving isn't easy, but it's plausible. I'm going into the U.S. NAVY's IT program anyways, so thankfully I don't have to worry about where to live right at the moment. As for the OP, I'd seriously consider moving, if at all possible in his near future. Sounds like he lives in a hole-in-the wall backwater town just like me. :p

I got paid for the first time today :D

Two paychecks totaling 320 bucks.

I am happy.

Taxed a bottle of jaegy tonight too, so i think I know how i'm going to celebrate :D
