whenever i go into a random thread, there is a 10% chance of my computer rebooting! no other forum has done that before.

help me please :| :frown: :borg:

Could be a virus or spyware. Do the usual checks, virus - google trend micro housecall. Adaware and Spybot search and destroy and see what comes up.
If it's not that, then its a hardware issue such as overheating which could cause your pc to reboot.

did 5 checks with 3 different anti virus software: nothing

how do you fix a hardware problem?

I'd like to add to this that I've had some odd experiences with THIS forum lately aswell...

ever since I read that thread with a guy who claimed that the combine exists etc. an area of my screen will suddenly go supper bright and saturated...this has only happened while browsing the Halflife.net forums...have yet to see it happen while I do anything else...

virus/hack maybe?

anyways I'm going to do a virus check and ad-aware...and see if this contineus...

I'd like to add that this happened twice in the thread I mentioned and then once in a random thread...

Its not going into a random thread doing it, its your computer being told to do it, or memory is crashing the whole pc.

make sure ur not actually kicking the reset or off button ;)
check your temperatures
and you did do the virus scan, with updated definitions for all programs u use for scanning
got a firewall? (might help)
hows your PSU?
does it happen while playing games?

1.my dog did once but me, never
2.normal
3.yes
4.no
5.?
6.no

edit: for temp, did you mean me or my comp?

:laigh: That made me laugh.

I would recommend you getting a firewall.

your computer = teh suck

this should be in hardware forum btw

You have a few things you can do: 1) Clean up your computer from viruses and spyware (use as many different spyware removers as you can, very important!!!), then clean up the shite programs you don't need, then google for CMdiskcleaner download the free version and get it to clean your system up using as many tools as you can (make sure you select in the options to backup files)

2) Defragment your system
3) Test
4) If it crashes try dxdiag from start>run
5) you may need to reduce your hardware accelleration
6) check your drivers
7) update your drivers
8) if all else fails you can either backup your files and the format the hard drive or try going to the microsoft expert forums that usually has the sollution somewhere

2. defrag does not work !!! a file doesn't exist or something
3. same as above
4. -
5. -
6. ok
7.ok
8. not ok

ok, i'll get the diagnostics tool thingy

edit: i did another spyware search and it found 3 trojans and a lot of other thingys

If defrag doesn't work, u've got serious problems ... :s

my computer is also rebooting sometimes.. but its usually when i run cs: Source..

Such as windows being very broken. Sorry, I know it seemed like I was helping much, but if defrag doesn't work, it's indicative of greater problems with your PC. What are you running?

You say a file doesn't exist, what file is that? Try running scan disk on your hard drive first, it doesn't defrag if there are errors. I hate to say it but reinstalling windows may be the only thing that can be done. But don't do it yet!

That was probably what was messing with random boots and saturation changes... but by the sounds of it you've got bigger issues

Threads hate me in a different way...most of the threads i used to post in just stopped with me....but that was then...

helped my brother a couple of times with the same prob....now my brother is 35, married with 2 kids...and for some stupid reason he countinously surfes porn, and get more then just porn pic´s... addware, trojan etc.....

every time it was an addware that placed itself in the beginning of the drive, that constantly wrote to the disc, so when he started defrag or scandisk it had to restart, and once it dint open at all.

what kind of prog do u use to spot the probs?

I think he already did many scans for adware, look when you say you "try defrag" do you mean when you click defrag in the defrag menu or you can't get into the defrage menu at all?? Have you tried the analysis button??
It may not be having a problem with defragmenting your drive, your defrag facility may be unusuable, if so you have no choice but to either find some sort of magic tool or to just reinstall windows.

can't get into defrag menu.

i have 2 hard drives. both can't be defragged.

as i said, i don't have this problem in anywhere else other than halflife2.net.

thnks to everyone who tried to help........ :(

yes. it is perfectly legal.

it wasn't like this before, but suddenly this happens and now i can't even update windows due to an error.

AAAAArrrrgh firewall firewall firewall FIREWALL...........

.............*looks around* FIIIIIRRREEWAAALLL! You need one. Utterly indispensable these days when using the net and running WinXP. I formatted theother day, then went online with no browser windows open. All I did was enter my hotmail details into MSN and - spywared. Instantly. The net is a warzone nowadays.

I recommend Zonealarm firewall from zonelabs. It's not perfect and it messes with a few chat programs sometimes, but it's free. I forget where to get it...google it.

I'm convinced that your problems are trojans and spyware. Adaware SUCKS. Many people would disagree, but personal experience has proved it for me. Many times I have scanned with the most recently updated version for spyware that I *knew* was running and could see with my own eyes, and Adaware missed it. The new Microsoft Antispyware beta, however, is very good indeed. I'm afraid I don't have the link...you can Google it or maybe someone here has it, it's been talked about a bit.

Be aware, however, that no program is perfect. Even Microsoft Antispyware and AVG antivirus failed to pick up on spyware fragments in my system32 folder, which I found later and cleaned out myself. IT@S A WARZOE!!88"!!!!!rofl

Firewalls are important but they don't solve the immidiate problem, his problem is defainly not virus or adware related. I can only think of two options: try and find a way to repair your windows files or to just reinstall it completely.

it says that MMC may be broken/not existing...............

and i enabled the firewall that comes with windows XP

Some one move this to the hardware and software forum, so the hardware lurkers can sort it
