why should I go to school?

Those are rhethorical questions. The only real question here is whether learning history and science and literature is making me more marketable for the world of work. All the time wasted... Just imagine what a super programmer I'd be right now if I had spent all that time learning ONLY computer science. I wish school was like that. Not even college is like that, since half your classes would be core requirements.

And just IMAGINE how much UC Berkeley and MIT would love to hire you because you only know how to program. And how much Valve would LOVE to hire you because you got an online degree at the University of Phoenix.

Stay in school, earn your bachelor's degree. I can't stress this enough as to how important a degree is nowadays. People are looking for well-rounded individuals who are not only skilled but also knowledgable in other things. Plus, you can never be too sure if computer programming (or any one specific skill) is all you want to do in life.

ahaha, wtf why the HELL would they go that far to throw a giant boulder on the fat kid????

back on topic.

I hear you man, school is gay and all I want to do is be a game developper. Turns out I have to take the courses that give me nightmares....chemistry and physics...why? Well at McMaster University (in hamilton ontario) you have to go through a general engineering course before you go into specifics for 2nd year. What do I want to get into for 2nd year you ask? Software Engineering & Game Design....man I'm gonna have to work my ass off cuz i'm HORRIBLE at chemistry and pretty bad at physics...

My advice would be to leave school now and get a job at McDonald's.

Then again, I am a bastard.

Quiet simply my good man, you need it. I have to go to school the standard 5 days AND I have Saturday school to learn German. I hate Saturday school, but...Es ist gut fur mir. If you hate school so much then choose easy subjects like Drama and Art, that way you can get into some technical college and do computer programing or something.

I don't know where you live but here in Australia we have some pretty good computer game making schools, hell, some even go for a full 4 years so that you can get a bachelor. If you really don't like school, completely, and you're not a pacifist pussy, finish the basic needed to join the army, become a grunt and live on a measly $20,000 a year. As for me, I'm off to the RAAMC.

AKIRA you want to be a game developer even though you can't do physics? What types of games would like to develop???? Take a racing game for example. It's all physics. I am not saying be a physics geek but at least get a physics course under your belt..I'm glad to hear you plan to work your butt off though. even I can see the importance of physics ;)

physics are quite important if you want to do game design. if you don't understand how the real world works, how can you create a fictional world? it'll be tough to communicate to programmers about physics if you don't know what you're talking about.

game design is one of those disciplines in which every subject you've ever taken can contribute.

Yea i'm not like bad at physics but i just don't like it that much. Pretty much what happens is (up till gr 11, now i'm in gr 12) that any subject i don't like, i don;t the homework in which in turn, gets me a bad grade (high 60's low 70's). Take computer engineering, right now i have a 95% why? cuz i like it and i actually pay attention and want to learn.

Now that I REALLY want to develop games, I'm going to force myself to study hard in physics and calculus so we'll see what happens to me:eek:

He wore glasses. He was fat. He was unassertive, unpopular, weak and shy
Wrong.

From Wikipedia:

The first two characters introduced are Ralph, an athletic and charismatic boy, and "Piggy", a fat boy with glasses...

Piggy may represent rational thinking as he is logical, but unpopular, and eventually Ralph comes to realise how much he depended on him and his logic, admitting "I can't think. Not like Piggy." He is arguably the most rational boy in the group, and as such his glasses may represent intuition and intelligence (they can also represent science, as can Piggy).... When Jack’s hunters raid Ralph’s camp and steal the glasses, the savages effectively take the power to make fire, leaving Ralph’s group helpless.......
[So he is weak] Piggy is an outcast from the beginning. The fact that he is the only one that does not end up taking off his shirt symbolizes that he is different and does not wish to be like the others. [So he is shy -- He's fat, remember? No wonder he didn't take off his shirt]

I give you the unassertive part though: Piggy can also represent Socrates, because his reasoning and high intelligence only adds more problems for him and results in his eventual death.

All this just proves my point: Wikipedia is just as good as going to college ;)
