Why you shouldn't claim other people's work as your own (was: Oil Painting)

Hello,
Beakshy is not Arsenic and just to let you know, he claimed that he could become a sound artsist and ofcourse he probably sent us crap as work, which wasn't really his so he has been permantly banned from OSP. http://www.shadow-phoenix.com is where this rat joined and now we are getting him off, this is a disgrace and I pity the fool that actually tried to steal the work, so please Beakshy is a great guy and gave him webspace since he was new on the team, so that tells us now thanks to a few people like ben who pointed this out to me so we are getting this cleared NOW! so please burn this kid to the ground and make him feel like crap. But please dont let this affect any judgement on OSp we are a hard working staff that really wants to create a great mod but not with theives on the team, so hes gone and banned so dont worry about him. He has NOT submitted any work to OSP either, but I thank all of you at this for giving him a piece of mind and finding that he is a FAKE, onec again I thank you :)

Hey don't worry, I had my doubts that Beakshy was the same fella, I'd been looking into it and they didn't seem to come across as the same guy, and earlier in the thread I warned people not to whois that domain and send hate mail to Beakshy just incase he was entirely innocent in all this.
 
I was the person who notified the team grrrr imagine me just having a look and seeing this topic and thinking "Hoho this could be a good laugh" and finding out 1 rouge member is bringing the reputation of the MOD you are working on down. Good job we got this sorted then :D

naa don't worry about it. Your mod was never in question and neither was the actions of any others involved on that mod. Just him.

If you have any info on the guy, feel free to PM it to me though :)
 
Ok, Hi everyone! I'm John Wallin and I'm the guy who made that painting

Sigh, Arsenic, you could at least have stolen one of my better paintings...and if you estimate that it would take you 2 months to make it I'm really flattered cause it took me 2 hours tops, The painting is inspired by some pictures I saw from the game marathon, wich was made by Craig Mullins. it's 100% photoshop and I think you should visit some art museums so you can se what oils do, don't insult oils by making people think that digital painting is!

Heh yeah. I was beginning to get worried the real artist would never be found. Should thank Scribblehead. must have been his posts that were seen.

guess I'll always wonder who did those older images he showed under other accounts though.
 
wow. nice work everyone. this guy sounds a little too far fetched to me. who the hell would be stupid enough to steal all those images and claim they are his own? the mind boggles.

we had an instance of a potential concept artist trying to fob us off with stolen work. i recognised it from a portfolio i'd seen on conceptart.org. he was just a kid though. the artist who drew the pieces he stole, sent him a nice letter from his solicitor. i feel bad for the kid, but i suppose he deserved it for being stupid.

let that be a lesson to everyone eh.

...so whats gonna happen to this guy then? is his site going to be banned? are more than just the artists going to be informed? i mean, what makes internet fraud any different from stealing real art and claiming it to be yours? I think he should get fined or something, i really dont think he should be able to walk away with nothing but the embarrasment (in which case he just gets a new name and starts again). :flame:

On a more serious note, I'm in the "Jail Time" camp on this one. Passing someone else's work off as your own is inexcusable.

brain damage, I hope you don't find him. Dan Milligan is a great artist and guy, I wouldn't want him beat up. His work is absolutely stunning.

I never have or will be arsenic, got it. Get your facts correct before you go off your crusade. If this person has stolen my work that’s their cross to bare. But remember the power of the internet and don't be so cavalier when posting accusations.

Dan's brought up a good point, people are starting to get too paranoid, I said at the beginning not to send hate mail to the beakshy guy because it likely wasn't the same one, same applies here.

Brian, you were in the wrong.Would appreciate it if you could apologies to the guy.

And on that note I'll close the thread shortly as it looks like only John and Dan's work was ripped off. As such its entirely up to those guys whats done about him. If they want to leave it be or if they want to take it further.

- That is what I was going off. The user "Tipsy" was matched to Arsenic. Tipsy made one post, here.

Tipsy signs the post "Dan Milligan". I thought he'd been dumb enough to sign his name.

Didn't realise that he was an impersonator too. If I got the wrong idea, I'm sorry. Sorry for wanting to catch a bloody art thief. Sorry for even trying.

Oh, and about the beating up: I was flippin' joking. Or wasn't that apparent?

Though if I do ever find the real Arsenic, I'll at least give him a piece of my mind.

I thought, from the info I gave above, that Arsenic's real name was "Dan Milligan".

I was NOT claiming IN ANY FORM OR FASHION that the artist Dan Milligan, the real Dan Milligan, was Arsenic the art thief. There are probably more than a million people named "Dan Milligan" on the planet, aand one of them, I suspected, was Arsenic. I'd never even heard of you, Mr. Milligan, until you posted here.

Sorry if I wasn't psychic enough to realise that he was also stealing someone else's name.
 
On that note I'm closing it. We're trying to build bridges with the guys on conceptart.org and other sites. Not piss them off.

Brian, you should have done a search for Dan's name on google or checked various sites before commenting. I hadn't brought up how Tipsy signed his post because it was, i thought. Understood that nothing he posted was true. I suppose in that case I should take part of the blame, I should have made a post clearly pointing out that he was not who he claimed to be.

Looking back, its obvious he (Tipsy) had used Dan's name to avoid being found out after a good chunk of Dan's work was found on his site. I admit that I should have realised that, but I didn't. So on behalf of hl2.net, its staff and its otherwise decent users. I'd like to apologies to Dan and John and that we will continue to keep our eyes open incase he or anyone else tries pull a stunt like that around here again.
