Will Half-Life 2 sell more than Halo 2?

It depends on the timescale, I suppose. See, initially, with 1.5 million preorders already, Halo 2 is going to kick the crap out of Half-Life 2. Over time, however, when Half-Life 2 comes out for XBox next year, it's quickly going to catch up, and has the possibility of selling even more copies overall.

Actually Half-Life has sold over 10 million copies, and Halo has sold I think around 4-5 million copies. So I don't think Halo 2 will sell as much as everyone thinks. It's more hype then anything. I mean I'm sure most people that bought HL will buy HL2, and I just really don't think Halo 2 will sell as much.

Are you talking about PC-version preorders? Because at present, they've already topped 1.5-million preorders for the Xbox version of Halo 2 (source = http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/action/halo2/news_6110893.html).

As for the high-end PC argument, that's why Valve chose to aim for more moderate system specs as a requirement. 1.2ghz (min req) is hardly top-end, and most computers out there are going to be able to run the game on low settings, at least.

because half life 2 will have many interesting and popular mods, while halo 2 will get boring very fast (just like halo 1 and doom 3)

if it werent for co-op mode, halo 1 wouldnt be anywhere near what it is now. half life 2 will be like a revolution in the gaming industry. i may sound like a fanboy now but just wait 5 years when you see half life 2 still selling for over 40 bucks.

Halo 2 won't have as much replay value (no mods). Halo 2 will have for the most part the exact same sales pattern as Halo 1 while HL2 will have pretty much the exact same sales pattern as HL1.

In the end HL1 sold more than Halo 1 so it seems likely that HL2 will sell more than Halo 2.
