ya know, with it going down briefly last night over A NEWS POST by valve and like a bigillion people coming on the forums, what kinda spec is the server? and can it cope with the pre-hl2 release hour? :s methinks hl2.net will be down again for some time, can you lock down some forums completely for a couple of days so the major ones stay up and running? would that help? (just curious is all)

who cares, we'll all be off playing it... oooh completely unmoderated forum, what horrors might occur :p

i mean. the hour BEFORE it's released. i know i'll be here.
Considering the forums cave under a few hundred users, plus Steam getting ready.. I doubt there will be a forum to be here at.

Sorry ;(

Well that sucks, oh well...
Unless LL do something with the server there's not a lot we can do about it. We could keep them open as long as possible but even then it'll likely be 404 errors or something.

Course saying that, people might keep away and be forever restarting steam and the forum might stay up long enough.

Just to let you guys know if you register at my forum i'll hire some moderators also. Come to mine because mine should be up wont be as busy. :D

Thank you. :)

Server im on has

2.4 Ghz Dual Xeon/Hyper threading active. 2 GB ram

Well I think i have it at 5 GB of bandwith right now but i'll switch it up to 10-15 GB once i get more members. Which i can switch bandwith up within seconds in case if my forum gets full and busy

You should ask Munro how much this site uses on an average day.. you might be surprised, I was :)

The site seems to cope ok with 1000+ forum viewers now, whereas before we'd be getting database errors at 600.

I'm not exactly sure how it'd cope if we broke our current record of 5000+

The server we were on when that happened last October 2003 died quite quickly :)

Ya you guys are a very huge Game Community. Are you guys Bigger then HlFallout because it seems that you are?

Eh, why did Homie link to this site? or am I stupid?

Either admin changed link to halflife2.net or Im going crazy

must be an optical illusion.. or a quick and mischievious mod who got in before the edit reason was shown :p

yeah cos i know i'm personally not on here that much *looks at 203 posts* but i Will be waking up at 7:30am-ish and will sit here in my pants reading the forums shaking and repeatedly restarting steam mumbling "it's coming... it's coming... it's coming..." like many other people. Then at sunrise the light will come screaming in through my windows and i will recoil in terror as my pasty white skin BURNS, BURRRRRRNSSS!!!!! :) and i might grab some cereal.

Someone's just been served. ^_^

What's up with the Smiley-avatars? :) Who needs a forum when we have the game? :) I'll probably check gamefaqs out if I have a need for help or spoilers ;)

We're the biggest Half-Life 2 fan site. The biggest site in the realms of Half-Life and beyond is of course, PlanetHalfLife.com

Thats really awesome Munro must be proud of his work. :)

And will Munro EVER let us post the pictures from ECTS ;o ? I think not!

Not quite :)
Well, unless I worked it out wrong...

If you've got a number in Kbytes am I right in saying you'd divide it by 1000 to convert it into MBytes and then by 1000 again to get it into GBytes?

I think you should divide by 1024 actually since that's many kilobytes there are on 1 mb. & 8 bit per byte :)

I meant a month, lol.. 200 GB a day, What was I thinking. :dozey: and I meant hl2.net

One month when we were hosting the BINK videos (they always kill the webserver now) we got through 2 TB (yes, terrabytes) of bandwidth. Since we stopped hosting the videos ourselves, it's been a lot less than that.

bittorant, the magic p2p service. Do you still host them via bittorant?

I think everybody will be gone playing the game.

We've looked into it. It's cool for things like that but ultimately we want our own dedicated file servers so we can have the flexibility to host any files we want and not have to worry about how many people are seeding.
