Will there be a Counter Strike 2 , when HL2 comes out?

Well with what the source can do I'm quite sure some other mods will hit big too, and that will be exciting.

You will have to play for CS:CZ singleplayer but CS:CZ's multiplayer is going to be CS 1.7, which you probably won't have to pay to upgrade to.

No, cz's multiplayer will be 1.6, with additional cz only maps.
Also some maps like dust2, aztec and whatnot contains new geometry and new textures, which can only be played with cz.
But cz will also contain all the normal versions of aztec and dust2 etc.

There is no cs 1.7 in the works.

I would hardly call that a split. Look at BF1942 their community isn't going to "split" because of Vietnam. It surely didn't with Secrete Weapons nor Road to Roam.

Another addon and a totaly new game are very different animals.

A totally new CS on a new engine might turn away some of the current "diehard" CS fans that are resistant to change (even tweaking weapon damage pisses them off). If everyone catered to the diehard fans there would be no advancements in games. By making a better, more advanced CS they will have a chance to get back all of the people that quit playing CS because they just got bored of it (like me). It also has a chance to bring in a whole new group of people that didn't like the original CS for one reason or another.

If anything CZ will be the game that tears the CS community in two. CS used to be free. Sure, it was available in stores, but it was still a free game if you already had Half-Life. Many current players that are addicted to CS will move over to CZ... but there are a lot of people that don't think it is worth $40-50 to get some new maps, bots that used to be free, and slightly better models (like me, if I were still playing CS). These two groups of people won't be able to play with each other (at least, not until a few versions down the road... if they still plan on doing that). Thus, instead of following the normal update path of mods CS will split into two paths... the people that are willing to pay will play a better version together, and the people that won't/can't pay will play the old version together.

i think that they should have like 2 versions of CS. like CS:tactical which is more realistic, and just CS2 which is more arcade like.

And how do you know it isnt gonna split the community? Just because 2 add ons didnt do it doesnt mean a whole new game and theme wont do it..

Well let me make it clear that CS2 might split the community but it won't be damaging it. Think of all the people that used to play CS 24/7 but stopped for whatever reason (most likely hacking), they'll be coming back to play
