Is that how its gonna work, or will the game adjust to your skill level as you play?

those are the ones I'd like to see....

why does it mater so much? in gamin tradition there will be 3 settings prolly

I lov to see in HL2 that you choose the hardest setting, play the game with this setting, somewhere in the game while playing you cannot kill aliens, they really unbeatable so you switch back to normal or easy to get over the hard part.

will be an option for switching between levels of difiiculty without repeatign the whole game again?????

Being able to switch difficulty levels on the fly would be nice. Gas Powered Games did this with Dungeon Siege, and it was an excellent feature. But I have a feeling that it'll be more traditional in that once you start a game, you're locked into that difficulty level till the end.

It worked well in Dungeon Siege, but in Unreal 2 it was a bit of a cop-out. Though come to think of it, that might have been more to do with the relative quality of the two actual games.

On topic: I can't think of any reasons why HL2 wouldn't have difficulty levels like pretty much any other game.

the doom series has always had more than 3 settings...so i dunno what tradition you're talking about....also many RTS games have more than 3 settings for the computer AI as well :p

anyway....what i wonder is:

will the difficulty settings just change the number and hitpoints of the enemies? or will it make them smarter/dumber, etc?

UT2k3 has like, 8 settings for the bots...

the last two even make the bots cheat.
(Instant rocket lock one, spawn with weapon, and each hit does WAYYY more damage)

and some people can beat them...

mmmmyes, that would be me.....

But only one on one. Anymore of them and Godlike is just a touch too hard.:bounce:

The 3 traditional settings would be good (easy normal hard) with the inclusion of a 4th extra hard (elite) setting with ridiculously low ammo and impossibley hard enemies just for fun :)

I think 3 difficulty settings is the most likely... but how the hell are we supposed to know without an email from Gabe... ah welll

oh, and I found Godlike easy.... it's too predictable... they go the same routes, they are just more accurate  oh no... but anyway... I predict the same as HL

lol RTCW had 4 settings:

can i play daddy?
dont hurt me!
Bring em on!
Im a death incarnate

(from easiest to hardest respectivly):borg:

Cyber$nake: those are from the original Wolfenstein 3D, but you obviously wouldn't know because you're too young to know that.

wow thanks for adding that "From easiest to hardest" part...as if we didn't know "can i play daddy?" was easier than "i am death incarnate!!"

but yea...i predict the same 3 levels as hl1

I just wonder whether the intro will also be 10 minutes long without any possibility of skipping it.

Why do you need to know about what difficulty levels that are in the game its utterly pointless.

i'd rather them stick to just easy, normal, and hard rather than try some old duke nukem style difficulty names like "help daddy" or something like that, maybe it was doom, can't remember

I emailed gabe on this one and he said they were going to do the hardness ala Wolfenstien.

Don't spazz, I'm joking.

If you guys remember, on the hardest difficulty on Doom(Nightmare, I think) not only did the enemies respawn, but you couldn't use the cheat codes either.

I would like it to be Easy, Medium, Hard, and then Mega-hard or something, with the respawnable monsters and no console.

I usually start games on easy, but since I know half life already, I'll prolly start on medium or so and then pplay through again on hard. and then start an easy game where I jus use the manipulator to launch dead(or live? :D) headcrabs at people's faces.

I usually play games on medium. Too easy and too hard ruin the experience.
