will vehicle's run out of petrol?

Does anyone else agree that patiotism is essentially racism? Advocating one thing immediately implies (and encourages) negative views towards other things in the same category. Promoting your country is, or leads to, thinking less of other countries.

Yeah, buch such is human nature.
And a nation thats not proud of itself is not likely to survive.

that almost qualifies for a double post =P

um...no i do not agree....are u arabic? ...not that its bad...do u want to kill all the non believers?:dozey:

But that's exactly the mentality that keeps up the "competitive" attitudes between countries, and promotes racism. Certainly, there's nothing wrong with having a sense of belonging, or being proud of some of the accomplishments those around you have made, but to be proud of your own nation immediately creates a mentality that separates other nations from your own. 99% (or more) of people have this problem - they fail to see that we're all human, and start developing oppinions of large groups of people based on where they're from or what they look like.

Just look at Pauline Hanson (aussies will know who I'm talking about). Her one nation campaign was a prime example of this. "We are being swamped by Asians" she once said. She failed to see past cultural differrences, and therefore felt the need to 'protect' her own culture that she's mentally identified with.

To me, culture is rediculous, and illogical. People become so caught up in their culture\tradition\religeon that they refuse to accept the oppinions of anyone caught up in a different culture, who therefore shares different views, which immediately creates a division.

Everyone should become aculturists. (hey, I've coined a new term, wee :) )

Edit: oh and if that question was directed at me, nope I'm not arabic :) I live in Australia but I don't really advocate any culture.

Someone should make a poll so that we can see who is from where...of course there probably has already been one but I'm too lazy to look. It seems like Americans are a minority here, which in my opinion is odd because we are discussing an American game.

It's not odd at all - the game is released internationally at the same time, and the internet is international. You're probably underestimating how much of the HL community is outside America. It's everywhere.

who the **** cares who can drink better or what side of the road you drive on. wtf is wrong with you people

whats the matter?!?! JEALOUS? Just have a cup of tee chap

That would be phat. I remember how amazing it was to do that in mafia (one of my fav game btw).

You would be chasing after someone, lean out the side of the car and manage to pop one of their back tyres, and they would start to lose control...AMAZING!

I'm pretty sure I read an official response somewhere that even if this wasn't in the game, it would be an easy enough mod. No word on whether or not Valve have put this in though.

It's ok to make fun of someone's nationality ..well, in good spirits anyway, it's a little scary when you're dead serious HATEFUL, Like, I don't mind, and will joke with someone who says America is bad for X reason and it's a silly joke. But some weirdo who says he wishes he could kill us all is a different story.

Sure, I see nothing wrong with joking around. What I meant though was that even people who don't realise it are developing discriminatory views by promoting their own country\group. I'm sure most people would never get to the stage where they want to kill everyone, but there still may be some negativity, or perhaps feeling uncomfortable, in a person's mind towards people of a different race\culture, simply because the person is proud of their own nation\culture. Edit: in case anyone's misunderstood, I'm not referring to people in this thread, just making an observation on people as a whole, and I was wondering if anyone else agreed with me :)

Well, I think that has more to do with the person themselves than 'patriotism'

I'm a US Patriot. But I don't hate (or feel uncomfortable around , etc) any other people from different nations. Usually it's cool like, "Wow, you're from there, I wanted to visit there!"

But threaten my nation, and you're in for trouble ;p

It does have a lot to do with the individuial, definately. From what I have observed, though, (and I may very well be wrong) patriotic people often have a certain arrogance about them that their country is 'the best'. Obviously there are exceptions, but from what I've seen, this sort of thinking is partly the result of patriotic ideas and points of view.

Ceux qui prennent la peine de traduire de langues étranges constatent habituellement que la traduction ne signifie pas beaucoup... ou est au moins un paradoxe!

Har! I'm an American, but I would feel comfortable in pretty much any culture (and I've seen/experienced quite a few).

lol this thread is reeeheeeheeeaaaally off topic.

Oh and when did I become an ant lion? cool :) (how many posts is that? I didn't think I posted very much)

Well, anyway. I hope the vehicles don't run out of fuel... besides... I doubt you'd be in it long enough to run out (Think about how long a FULL tank lasts... now compare that to your estimated driving in HL2)

Even if you drive a lot, it still might not be enough to use a full tank (Plus, you might use more than that Dune Buggy for all we know, so switching vehicles would change that)

bum a fag

lol just sounds so silly

Anyways some of you that are not from the US may not know that if you live on one side you don’t talk the same way as the other.

The south gets labeled as slower talking (even silly redneck accent)

North East does not use the letter R.. car = caaa star = staaaa, an Italian flare

North they talk almost like Canadians.

West well they are probably easier to understand then anyone else

Nice how you just pointed out how different parts of the U.S. talks different but EVERY part of Canada talks the same, omfg.

central ohio speaks the best. we speak like EVERY single american famous newcaster. no accent at all.

I am from the US I love my country I actually feel it is the best. I like other countries also. I like them but I'm glad I live here. Free democratic nation, government mostly keeps out of citizen’s personal lives, economic superpower, military superpower, capitalistic economy, safe, stable government, a verity of natural environments, all climates, lots of space, and we have our own special mix of culture. It is easy to be happy here because somewhere in this country you can find people just like you.

Which is fair enough, most people will feel the same way about their country for reasons which may be the same or different. Problem is when the people with little (or no) minds come in and start starting arguments "Hah! My country is so much better than yours cos <something, probably bollocks anyway> and <some insults>. Course the other one won't appreciate their country being insulted so replies with something similar. That is the kind of crap that I (and I'm sure many others) get pissed off about. Each place has its ups and dows, seeing BOTH the ups and downs is important, cos only seeing the 'ups' and following blindly causes more crap. I am patriotic to the UK, if I had a choice of countries whose armies I could join (if I had to join one) it would be the UK. There are things I don't like about it (the weather for the most part hehe). There are things about America I do and don't like (admittedly I've only been there once). Such, as mentioned before, the varied climates, enivronments etc. , cities are easier to navigate cause of the layout hehe. Things I don't like are, well guns are a major downer for me. And George Bush. Course we have Tony here, oh wait, no we don't where is he now? George, bend over, I want to ask Tony something. Err I may have strayed even further off topic. Well, basically I wish people would keep an open mind.

Who cares? There's no point in arguing how other people talk, we can all pretty much understand eachother. Besides, we're all typing right now anyway.
