as the topic says really , will it compile hl2 sdk code
2005 beta dosent :(

it will compile it but maybe not by default you will probably have to fiddle with it

Yes. Yes it will. Same with the cut down edition Microsoft are releasing, that costs only £50. Valve really want to make them work to get more coders into the modding scene.

I get VS 2005 (Professional Edition, I think) made available to me through the MSDNAA which is pretty cool, though I have no idea when it'll become available! I heard it went retail today.

It should compile, only problem is VS2005 has the strictest C++ compiler from Microsoft yet, which is a very good thing, but it means there's less leeway for sloppy code, so you'l probably have to fix a few errors before the base SDK will compile.

sweet..I just DLed J#, C#, C++, and VB express editions...

can you compile HL2 source with these free express editions and the EULA isnt blocking you from doing that right?

I think that you aren't allowed to compile anything for PROFIT with the free MSVC thingies. I have the Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2 but I haven't read the EULA :P
