I'll buy one at launch. I've gamed for years on pc and enjoyed every minute of it. But for all the reasons mentioned before I'm trying my first console in december. Hope it'll be worth it though...

I hope so too. It's worth remembering that the 360 will be a console, and not a 'pc in a box' - as some people are fond of suggesting. It will play and feel like a console (which isn't a bad thing, just different)

(I really never understood this 'inna box' stuff - the Xbox has never felt anything like a pc. It's a console, just as much as the GC and PS2 are consoles. I guess you could argue that these are 'pcs in a box' too - but noone does. This saying is the invetion of fanboys, and couldn't be more wrong)

As soon as the mod community starts to actually unlock the potential of the XBOX360 then I'll buy one.

My modded XBOX / LCD TV (with 720p out) / X2VGA > XBOX360 for everything except gameplay and I'm more of a PC Gamer than a console Gamer.

I have like 200 hours worth of TV shows on my XBOX at the minute along with about 70 films. I can't remember the last time I used my VCR/DVD player.

A PC-in-a-box that's less than 1/4 the price of a cutting-edge PC, and, oh, let's see... Roughly TEN times more powerful. That sounds about right.

A $4000 computer might net you 5GHz, 2GB of top-quality RAM, two cutting-edge video cards, and 1TB of hard drive space.

Whereas a $500 Xbox 360 will get you 9.6GHz, 512MB of RAM (of which only 40MB is allocated to the OS, EVER), and a video card that's apparently twice as good as the next-gen PC cards (although I may be wrong on that count).

The point is, the 360's possible performance is a veritable universe away from that of anyone's PC right now.

Please! Enough with the 9.6 GHz talk! It doesn't work that way! And as far as the 360 or any of the next gen consoles being TEN times more powerful than each other or the top of the line PCs in November, please check out the following:

The [Xenon] chip is built on a 90nm process, much like Cell, and will run at 3.2GHz - also like Cell. All of the cores are identical to one another, and they are very similar to the PPE used in the Cell microprocessor, with a few modifications.

The three cores share a meager 1MB L2 cache, which should be fine for single threaded games but as developers migrate more to multi-threaded engines, this small cache will definitely become a performance limiter. With each core being able to execute two threads simultaneously, you effectively have a worst case scenario of 6 threads splitting a 1MB L2 cache. As a comparison, the current dual core Pentium 4s have a 1MB L2 cache per core and that number is only expected to rise in the future.

Please read this article that I linked to in my previous post before throwing "facts" around trying to compare these multiple architectures! All this talk about graphics and physics and other fluff is all too similar to great old classic films being remade into steaming piles of glossy dogsh*t with well-known actors saying things you hear on MTV every day. Sad, but the substance is sorely lacking. Good thing we still have developers willing to push the envelope with games like Shadow of the Colossus and Okami and Darwinia and Spore--but, oh no! I've just said that there are some great examples of creativity and innovation being displayed on both the consoles and the PC! Don't flame me!

I actually do think that HL2 would still be my favorite game without the graphics (can't ditch the physics, its too closely tied to the gameplay).
AND I think the story and characters are better. So nyah. :farmer:

PC gaming isnt just a hobby, it's a skill. :E

What's the fun of getting a game and having work out of the box?

You don't just play the game, you earn the game.

to old for this, and i realy want a hassle free gaming when i arrive from hard day work, (working till 18:00 and comming at 19:00) and i work as IT admin, i am full of computers bugs and installation at work so dont want it at home to.
xbox wirelles gaming for me yey.:imu:

Lol what a dumb ass. Who gives a shit, 20%, what is that like 10 extra frames in BF2. LOL. I dont care, eVGA > BFG imho. Btw, parts came earlier and its going good so far :-D.:E

Im hearing that the launch games are gonna be pants for the 360

Maybe, we'll have to wait and see. There's only one game i'm concerned about - PD0. Kameo may be a nice suprise too, another 'Banjo - Kazooie' would be very cool :)

I'll be picking up a 360, or possibly a ps3, just for Resident Evil 5. Any other decent games will be a bonus.

I'm sort of thinking about it. If I buy it I want to get it modded, or probably switch HDs from my old xbox and put it into the new one (I don't know if that's possible). But if they have wack games, I'll probably get a ps3.

Will when the price drops, $300 or 400, plus $60 for each game adds up.

360 looks like the best console bar far, xbox live and the wireless link to your p.c. This means that all ur music films and photos will already be there b4 u can do shit. Any point game or movie u can stop do something else u can now turn off the console without standing up. This console is a beast as for the origanal xbox having problem they did but just with the dvd drive and that
was fixed. Anybody in the uk who brought the origanal £500 pound pack got a refund package consisting of controller games wot not all u had 2 do was phone them at price drop.

xbox 360 has more games this time round and console is worth having u cannot sit at the pc with mates round and kick there ass unless u have a lan and even then its antisocial unlike getting stoned and having jeep wars on halo.

Microsoft deserves to big all companys start small so did microsoft and work there way up. Bill gates give more money to charity then any other stupidly rich person if his money grows so does the amount he gives so how exactley is he evil?

I agree with the social part, it is fun linkin up xboxes and 2 tvs and havin a proper fun time.

You deffinatly cant have that kind of fun with pc

No!!! You're not allowed to be rational! This is a flame war!!! :p

And sorry if I got my information wrong. At least you were civil in how you pointed it out. But still... I thought three parallel 3.2GHz cores equalled a net of 9.6GHz. Me and my stupid layman's interpretations of hardware :)
Anyways, I was only pointing it out to try and beat it into the heads of the "omgz PC is better than oxygen" crowd that consoles can actually have better performance than PCs, but I tried to do it in a way that they could understand: with a pure hardware analysis and comparison.

But in all honesty, gameplay > graphics. Which is why I want Spore more than, say, Quake 4, or... umm... that PS3 sequel to a shooting game on PS2. It was at E3. And it was prerendered.

Yep.

Well, you can. But it's nowhere near as easy. And more often than not it's not as fun.

I agree. LAN parties are great fun, but not as sociable.

I wont buy a console until I see a must have title for it. For example I already know I want a ps3 because of mgs 4, and RE 5. However, Im not going to buy the ps3 until one of those games are released. I havent seen anything on the xbox 360 that has excited me to the point of wanting to buy it. Three of the five most popular launch titles will be coming out to pc before or at the same time.

Hahaha! Heck, I needed that article to help me better understand it too--the companies are great at throwing numbers around that the general public have no idea what to do with--it helps them sell units.

I hear you--you can't really compare the two mediums anyway. Until now, they both have had very different games and gameplay experiences. Now, with PC/console development merging more and more, I am worried that the diversity in the industry will lessen, but, like I said, there are some very creative people still left out there and my hopes lie with them!

Stigmata said:

Exactly. That's why I will always go back to games like Bionic Commando for the NES and The Secret of Monkey Island for the PC, just to name a couple. Awesome games that will always stand the test of time in my book--and there are TONS more like them :).

im banking on developers to flock to xbox. i think its pretty safe to say thath there will be several killer apps on the xbox, WELL before there is a price drop. besides waiting a year and a half for a $50 break is pointless. just buy the xbox, and only buy 1 game instead of 2 :D

I'm willing to bet the HD version will be at the barebones version price point by the holidays 2006. It'll be PS3's first holiday season and M$ would be wise to undercut them as they've done in the past

I think it'll come down, but I foresee only about a $50 decrement rather than $100. They are losing a lot on each of these again, so they will not be so happy to let it go for so cheap so soon, especially considering all the talk about this console lifecycle being longer than the last. But who knows--their sales/marketing team are certifiable! :rolling:

they're losing a lot less in this coming generation ...but I'm hoping a $100 decrease by next year ..$100 canadian that is. But you're probably right

Ha! Yeah, I sincerely hope its something to the tune of $100 USD--all of a sudden it looks SO much more attractive :).

Of course, we'll see how all of these games look when they finally hit the shelves too--that's my deciding factor: the games, not the money. Budgeting for a worst-case-scenario price point for a PS3 next year has me watching my spending very carefully these days:thumbs:.

even if I had the money (I do but I have better things to spend it on) I wouldnt get an xbox360 right now ..just cuz the other 2 consoles wont be released till next year. It's the games that'll sell it for me ..I made a mistake of buying an xbox without considering it's game library last time around I wont make the same mistake again
