I'll be upgrading to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit soon, and I was wondering what people who are using Windows 7 64 Bit are using for a firewall and Antivirus?

32 Bit Windows 7 Security Software?

I'm using Trend Micro Officescan simply because the school networks require it. Don't really know if that helps you at all.

Just a quick search, what I've found:

Apparently Avira Antivirus (which is what I currently use for XP) works in Windows 7, though I'm not sure if it works in 64 Bit. Maybe I should check their website.

Also, Commodo firewall works in Windows 7, if you right click the installer and use compatibility mode: Vista. Again, not sure if it works in 64 Bit.

I don't see a 64 Bit installer for Tall Emu's free version of Online Armor, unfortunately.

This should be a good article:

Our Recommendation

If you want something that’s going to work really well, and is totally free, you should check out the free Microsoft Security Essentials anti-virus solution, which isn’t going to slow down your PC.

And I found this:

officially compatible per Microsoft

AVG Free

AVG Free and my router.

Im using avira currently, but its obnoxious, so I'll be switching to Avast!

As for firewall, pfft. Whatever my router does is enough for me.

Using Avast! and PeerBlock (a revamp of PeerGuardian, better than the loader I was using for 7/Vista before).

I'll probably stick with Avira for A/V, but for firewall, I want one that can block in and out.

Windows XP built-in firewall only blocks incoming coms. How is the built-in firewall in Windows 7? Little better?

I'm pretty sure you can block outgoing now, tho tbh its not user friendly at all,

I have a machine with 64bit Win7 and I'm still using NOD32 v4 and standard windows firewall and spyware (even though NOD32 does this as well).

Windows firewall will block outgoing connections too. It will ask you if a program has permission to access the internet if it isn't on the allowed list.

For av avira is good. But if safety is your main issue dont logon using an administrator account. Create a limited user account for browsing and use the administrator account only when you need to install something. Windows 7 makes using the method more easy than ever and its better than any protection anti-virus can offer you.

After all, the $35 Overdraft fees, Bank Of America collected, we now offered a 1yr ($39.99) McAfee subscription for...Wait for it... FREE!

Personally, I like McAfee, because it costs money, meaning, updates are always, almost prompt, and there's always a tree you can bark at.
McAfee Security Suite comes in both 64/32 version in the same download for 64bit OS, residing in both Program folders, and Windows. It is, Download, Set It Up, and Forgetboutit.

Good Luck.

I haven't used any sort of anti-virus fanciness; what are you guys downloading that you need it for?

yeah, because if you don't visit any web pages, then you don't need any security.

But not really. You should be fine. Just don't. do. anything.

Yeah like: Using Google, or like paying bills online, or stroking keys about your PI on your keyboard, then visiting your favorite porn-tube; then you don't need all that AV fanciness.

Good luck... you need it.

Also, advertisements can be malicious. Plus, you know Google tracks everything you do. Any webpage that uses google adsense or doubleclick.net (almost all of them) is tracking you; profiling you.

Email too. I've got malware from family members in my email. They don't know any better.

Free smilies !! Attack!

Maybe xcellerate is part of a botnet

I don't know, I haven't tried Windows 7 yet, with the non-Admin account. I'm sure it's much better.

I just use noscript and adblocker plus. I have been scanning regularly since I installed 7. No viruses or malware. Ever.

I simply use Windows 7 firewall and avast and despite going to tons of attack sites, this combination has protected me. I think mainly it's been avast, because every time I click on a seemingly legitimate site about legitimate things that turns out to be an attack site, it always warns me and I simply abort the connection.

Hey Jessica, how can I apply for your job?
