Ok I'm going to make you guys suffer more 'programmer' art ;). After seeing all the modern weapons you guys were making I decided to give it a college try. This is a work in progress of course, the model aside from the bipod weighs in at 1642 triangles. The bipod is another matter all together, it has as many polys as the rest of the model combined and is due for replacement(dunno what I was thinking when I was modeling it).

verry pretty. the pitol grip is awesome. I have been trying to get my grips to look that good. Damnit.
 
@Hiro: Wow thank you. I think your a gun modeling god so the praise means alot!

@Noodly: Yeap, I'm going to redo the Bipod, then onto the scope.
 
my advice would be to leave out the holes in the bipod for the ingame but leave them in for pimpage posts. Just use alpha chanells in the skin to create the same effect. you'll probably save at least 200 poly's doing it that way.
 
why consern about poly's, HL² can handle 3000 poly weaponmodels it is a design limit, not a technical one

and alpha map the holes will result in jagged edges.
 
@Hiro: Good idea about keeping the current bipod for pimps. The Light Fifty has been seen with a lot of different bipods, I think I can get away with something alot simpler for the game model.

@EVIL: The bipod alone is over 1600 polys hehe, it's over kill IMO. Currently, the total for the model is 3658 (with the uber bipod), the count doesn't need to be that high. We still ought to have clean optimized models even though the standard has has been raised.

1)There is a carrying handle, and you might want to include it

I think if you knock the amount of sides the holes have down to around 6 you wouldn't really be able to tell all that much in the game. They'll be pretty far away from the players view most likely.
 
@Sidewinder: Thanks :) Yeah I'll probably put the handle in too but leave the iron site parts out. I'm thinking the polycount is gonna end up near 2400 total. I'll check out the barrel, mine isn't fluted like the real thing, I thought I had the proportions down, your probably right though.

@Newton: Are you talking about the Bipod holes? Because I think all the holes on the gun itself are at 6 sides.

@nw909: I model exclusively in wings3d(free!), I render in max though. I used to model in max, but then Nendo came out and hooked me into fast intuitive subdivsion modeling. Then Nendo inspired wings3d, and it's like Nendo on steriods :).

Yes Grey, I was referring to the holes in the Bipod. Sorry about that.

you could probablly do 8 sided too.
