This is my first map using hammer, please leave some feedback and remember its not finished yet so theres lots more to come! :D

Just updated the pics with what ive been working on today, The reception area. Had problems getting Dynamic lighting to work so had to stick to normal lights:(

That first screenshot is pretty.

I like it, very atmospheric! Glass around the staircase looks a bit strange though.
 
how do you make a map at nighttime ?

i already tried with the enviroment on blue and a dark sky but it doesnt work :(
 
I can't comment on the gameplay of it [what game is it for, anyway?], but it does look pretty and well-made, I'll give you that. Apart from the glass looking weird, there are no 'poles' [can't think of a more appropriate name right now] on the glass staircase. Staircases don't just have long, curling strips of glass like that. They don't even curl as far as I'm aware :) Not on normal staircases...
 
yeah looking good, although you should use some other textures for the interiors

I just used a night sky for the map skybox meterial, worked fine for me!

Ok ive ditched the glass on the staircase, was more an experiment than anything else. Having trouble finding decent textures to fit in with the theme but ill figure something out!
 
heh wicked, thats really beginning to look good. Can't wait to see it once all the extra details are added. Will look very cool then.

Now get back to work on it :p

Wow... i was making a warehouse map for CS Source a while ago, but yours just looks so much better than mine did :eek:

But the textures and detail you have used really make yours look like a warehouse :). Are those custom textures?
 
No there all in the HL2 texture file if you look hard enough, try searching for metal. Loads of useful metal in there:p

Savage...The stairs look much better now...I was goin to comment on the big column in the middle of the staircase but thats gone... Thanks very much for taking away the only thing i could criticise...i hope you're happy!

that 3d skybox is gorgeous! almost exactly like how I want mine ... sadly I need to still figure out the 3dskybox :( and will probably be the last thing on my to do list.

you may beat my release date for my map. i'm shooting for HL4 :naughty:
 
Good work. Far too many people just get frustrated when criticised and quit working. It's great to see someone taking the criticisms to heart and really trying to improve their work.

Thats in my prefab bin so ill send you it if you like and you can smash it for me :thumbs:

The skybox is surprisingly easy, im still not sure if it looks right ingame but it'll do for now :smoking: If you need help figuring it out, give me a shout.

As for what people say, it makes me just want to make things better. Remember 2 heads are better than one!

That would make an awesome CS map...

Great job. Especially for a first time. My first time is looking pretty cool too, but I've got aways to go.

Is the glow on them a spotlight property or did you put flare entities on them?
 
Yeah, those look great! You should fog up your map a bit, though, since light tends not to have volume quite like that without some fog kickin' around. Great atmospheric touch, though.

btw: i think it would be good with out fog, but thats just my opinion.
 
I tried Fog but it also went inside the warehouse too so thats a no-no. Bright floodlights leave that kind of thing anyhow:D
