With all this extra time now that that HL2 has been delayed, is it possible that Valve is going to add more content?

possible. But we don't know what content they already had, so we won't be able to tell what was added.

With that extensive leak out there, I think they'll be adding some new stuff, and perhaps retouching their models and maps a little, while they have the time. If the coders are hard at work rewriting code, the graphic artists have nothing to do :)

I wonder how extensive the "Making of" book will be once that comes out.. be an interesting read, I'll definitely be buying it if they cover post-September

I'd be suprised to see much more added content. I'm assuming that if they were in heavy testing, as they applied they were, that they're pretty much done with content at that point. Adding anything else would more than likely risk throwing off any balance or story progression they've already solidified.

they can always improve the MP, make more maps, gamemodes, maybe some MP only weapons. that wont throw off a thing.

Who knows? Gabe and Co could always pull a Tarantino and rewrite some of the story/content in time for release because of the leak. Kill Bill Volume 2's script leaked out on the net, so Tarantino decided to rewrite/re-shoot some of the key plot twists/details so there'd be more surprise when it came around in February. A little different for a game project, I suppose, but you never know what Valve'll do next.

Spit I think it is time for you to pay another visit to VALVe just to check on them.;)

OMG, didn't you remember what happened last time? Ain't it obvious, he's the hacker! ;)

Good point on that making off book, will be a very good read (you could write a freakin' book of only for these last three months).

Yeah, actually, i was thinking about, depending on how CW:MP goes and such, maybe writing a short book on the release of hl2 and making of the mod.

I bet they're adding extra stuff now that they're not in such a hurry to get it done by September 30th ;) ;)

I still don't believe that Valve is re-writing code. Is it official confirmed anywhere that they are? They may be re-writing code but because of the leak? I doubt it.

If they do it will be small details they had time to include to make it look a little more nice, don't expecta nything big.

I don't think anything has been confirmed, and I doubt they're re-writing tons of code, but I would imagine they'd have to be doing SOME form of damage control code re-writing because of the leak. I don't know what or how much of the code was stolen, but if any part of the stolen code can be used to easily create cheats/hacks than they surely need to "fix" it. Hacks and cheats will come no matter what, but it wouldn't make sense to release a game where the hacks and cheats could potentially be out even before the game hits the streets.

And if any of the steam code is in there (seeing that you can buy things over steam), that surely would have to be changed.

As for extra content....I doubt there would be much, if any. I think they just want to concentrate on getting the game out the door right now.

I just don't get what the delay is about at all, to be honest. It seems it can't be purely due to the leak, and yet they still managed to miscalculate the release by a number of months, when they were supposedly already in the testing stages. And they tell us this a week before the purported release date. Something just doesn't add up. :(

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but do you think it would have made much business sense to release HL2 before CS:CZ? Somehow I don't think so, and it strikes me that some important people may have noticed the flaw in this release-next-gen-game-then-aged-one marketing strategy. Just a thought :)

I've kind of given up on all of these rumors and "he said, she said" shit. It's gets very sickening after a few weeks *cough*days*cough*...

Crusdaer... interesting point..... blame the publisher!

actually, i'm gonna move this over the hl2 roumors and such, thats wher ethe thread is heading....

What the hell!!?!? Why would they be re-writing to code!?!? When you transfer stuff over the internet (like stuff through AIM or Email) all it does is copy the file, then send it to another person making the same file on 2 different computers.

EVEN if the "hacker" purposely DELETED the 1/3 off the code of VAVLe computers, they could just ****ing redown load if of Kazaa.....

I don't believe one word about rewriting the code...

Yes, but now the code can be exploited, to make cheats, bypass authorization checks, and possibly hack people through Steam. I think they'd be re-writing that part of the code.

Genius. :dozey:

I think what he means is re-working the code, not re-writing. It's my understanding that Valve didn't lose anything, it was stolen but by no means deleted. At this point they have to be doing something with the code, but they're not re-writing it from scratch, which is what your post implies. They are definitely re-working the code for several reasons. One being security, but mainly they're just finishing the game.

WOW GUYS! We've got Einstein posting on our hallowed forums!

Lol, sorry... I just had to say it :p, heh.

My opinion, and pretty obvious reason, is that they're re-writing the code which has to do with cheats/hacks.

I'm sure no-one on here wants cheats/hacks out there. Kills all the fun.

EDIT: as well as polishing up some stuff, and some added features. who knows....time will tell

actually in about 2 weeks of the games release they'd be doing that anyways...so I don't think Valve would re-write code to slow down hackers. Especially if it costs them money. A company wouldn't care a lot of how a game is played, more on how it sells.

Delay = Polish

... as far as I'm concerned.

The Polish stole the source code?! I knew it! We've underestimated them long enough. All of those lightbulb jokes were just a clever feint to distract us from their true fiendish plans. First source, next the nuclear launch codes.

No one knows who stole the source other than the person who stole it. I thought everyone that Denmark stole it. OH WAIT NO IT WAS JUST ONE PERSON NOT A COUNTRY. my bad.

Are you, in fact, Polish bgesley? It was a JOKE! Did anyone else get it? Man, I might have to take my act elsewhere. Tough crowd...

I knew as soon as I made that post that someone was going to make the inevitable "Polish people stole the code!" joke.

bgesley, it might affect sales if people know that HL2 is going to have a lot of online cheats as soon as it comes out, so I think they would rewrite the code to nullify what the hackers have got, at least in respect to the online portions of the game...
