Worst forums ever

any of the blog comments on time wasting sites
great sites but the human detritus that visit them *shudders
rampant racism, aggressive flaming, homophobia, death threats........

Wasn't someone banned there for accidentally using "you're" instead of "your" in a thread title? That's just a story I heard.

Anyways, several boards on GameFAQs(especially some game boards) are prime examples of the levels humanity can sink to. At the same time, there are some really intelligent and fun forums located there.

I would say the worst forums I went to were the old Red Alert 2 forums. Full of trolls, flamers and over zealous nationalists, it was horrible. It was moderated by Westwood staff, but they hardly ever said anything, and seemed a bit preoccupied with whatever their jobs were, so little moderation.
All the EA forums seem to be like that.

Misuse of your or you're does annoy me, but banning because of it is rather a Nazi way of doing things.

We should however ban people who say "could care less" instead of "couldn't care less" because that really does get on my tits :D

Theyre usually not that strict... if u tipe liek a retart tho u gt band. Its my favourite forum rule.

After the guy said "Yo you are totaly screwed up i DIDNT USE ONE PERIOD AND YOU BAN Me You cant do that you Power Hungry son of a bitch."
They were obviously taking the piss. He made a new account after getting banned and thats why he got banned again, partly at least. The first time he probably wrote a whole block of text without using periods.
 
Something Awful has a whole weekly feature called the Weekend Web that is quotes from all the worst forums they can find. So any of those make my list.

They're insane. Seriously. The bans aren't very long - a day at the most, usually - but they throw them out at 5000 clicks per minute for absolutely everything. Wrong forum? Oh noes. Surely you can just move the damn thread or close it. Bad grammar? Shit noobtalk? You might not like it but at least give them a warning. Someone bad-mouths the site? Wow, how very professional you are in the face of criticism (especially when as far as I can see there's good reason for it). It seems such a crazy way of doing things. A ban for every minor infraction and some things which don't even make sense to be against the walls anyway. :dozey:

The rules are clear:
Forum Rules
Don't be racist or homophobic. You will be automatically banned for using words like "******" or "******"
Take time with your posts. Do NOT type things like OMFG or plz thx. Type real sentences. This is NOT an AOL chat room. Type as if you were applying for a job.
Don't post money making schemes, outwar crap or free ipod cack.
When starting a new post use a descriptive topic. You will be banned if you use a topic like "sum cool shit" or "wow check this out!" or "funny stuff".
Don't sass the mods.
Don't tell us we need to ban someone.
Don't overreact to trolls. Just report their posts and we will deal with them.

Use of this forum is a privilege not a right.

They broke the (reasonable, imo) rules so they got banned.
 
Thats still a stupid way of doing things. Trying to force people to type correctly and banning them for mistakes is at best just counter-productive.
Theres much better ways of influencing people other than tossing bans out constantly, but it instead seems like someone just likes to do it.

Where is misstyping whole or critisising the site mentioned?
 
Personally I think it sounds fantastic. I've never browsed the GMod boards for any length of time, but the idea of a ban-enforced grammar standard sounds like heaven.

That's a bit silly, I can't say I've ever put "crap" or "cack" on a CV.

Fair enough, we all probably have said either of those words plenty of times, but it's not language you would use as if applying for a job.

Well they sey they ban people as a big warning, not as anything like the bans we're accustomed to. You can re-register instantly on the facepunch forums as well. and garry is an okay guy
