Woudn't Alyx be 10-11?

I was just having a small talk with a friend of an Alyx vs Barney situation. Barney pwning her of course but then it got me thinking...

Barney was an adult in Black Mesa, but Alyx was a baby

If HL2 is 10 years into the future from Black Mesa, woudn't that mean that Alyx would be 10-11?

I thought HL2 was 15 years into the future. That makes Alyx 20ish and Gordon around 30. Then why does Eli say "there's nothing Gordon can't handle with the exception of you (winks at Alyx). Eli doesn't know Gordon has been put in stasis and thinks he is 45. So why does Eli think there might be something happening between them???

Half-Life 2 takes place somewhere around 2013 as far as I can guess. The picture of Alyx in Eli's Lab was an old one, as Alyx is around 19-20 now, and since Half-Life 2 takes place ten years after Half-Life, I'm guessing that Alyx was somewhere around 8-10, making her pretty easy for Eli to carry.

Unless of course Alyx was a fat kid.

even i can tell the difference between a 45 yr old and a 30 yr old (its in the beard!). Eli must suspect something, remember he says, "look at u man, u haven't changed an eon" or whatever. he must suspect something, and he would ask. since he doesn't ask, we must presume that he already knows. maybe thats why eli says he can't hgandle her, or something. but alex looks more like a 30 yr old than a 15 yr old, methinks.

Is it possible that they escaped by teleport and hid on Xen for a while? Only to be teleported back to earth during the portal storms. It makes me wonder if time on Xen may be accelerated...

But to address the real question,. to sort this out we need to know exactly what Eli said and exactly how many years has passed since HL1.

There's no date assigned to the photo, so it could be (and probably was) from many years before Hl1.

But based on Alyx's apparent age in HL2, and Gordon's official 10-year sleep-time, Alyx must have been at least ten at Black Mesa.

i was under the impression alyx wasnt actually in black mesa, it was a top security facility, alyx could of been somewhere on the black mesa complex maybe a residential area where the scientists working there live

Eli lost his leg after the Black Mesa Indicent, while he was helping Dr. Kleiner get over a fence into a Combine guarded city.

With regards to Barney being 10 years older: at the end of Blue Shift, you can't really tell if he was teleported into present time or if he was possibly delayed by 8-9 years (or x years) similar to how Gordon was delayed in HL2.

Although that is really quite a stretch - you would think that Barney would have said something to Kleiner, so Kleiner wouldn't be all surprised about discovering this "new type of teleportation" like he is when you finally turn up a week later.

Still, something for people to ponder. And yes, I know you see Gordon getting dragged past the window unconscious, but there's still one teleport between then and when you arrive outside with the scientists.
